We called ahead and booked a table for a medium sized group. When we turned up there weren't too many customers (alarm bells should have been ringing but we continued anyway). The chicken was awesome - cooked perfectly and on top of a big arancini ball which was full of flavour. Unfortunately everyone else was pretty disappointed with their meals. Gravlax salad was covered in salt for some reason, they'd renamed meatloaf as 'compressed pulled pork' which caught out a few people, and their wedges were completely inedible and soggy. We actually sent all the wedges back and the staff vented about how the good wedges were expensive so they bought the cheap ones and you just can't expect any better than that. They threw them in the oven a bit longer but basically they came back hotter but still inedible. On the plus side though you can take your receipt to the cellar door next door (Gartlelmann Wines) and get 10% off.

"Enzo" Big Breakfast 2 eggs (seemed like at least 4 actually) your way, bacon (more like rustic farmhouse style American ham), whole mushrooms and roasted whole tomatoes on two thick slices of toast. This is like a big boy chunky style brekky - you have to cut everything but it is hearty and delicious. Make sure you're hungry! Cappucino - frothy, large and smooth! What is truly surprising about Paxton Pantry (even more surprising for it's rural location) is that 90% of the eats are gluten free. They're all made on-site by the husband and wife duo and we took great advantage of the GF status by enjoying a honey tea cake with coffee icing with our coffees. Of course, being a country cafe it was obligatory to try their devonshire tea and although not gluten-free, their scones were delectable! Soft, warm and not dry - served with apricot jam and fresh cream - they were suitable for a country morning out. If you happen to roll through town at lunch time there's a great selection of made fresh to order sandwiches and more substantial eats to tempt you.

Good value and only a little more expensive than the standard pie range (which is also quite good). The outside section at the back is quiet and relaxing. Coffee is good but not top notch. As this review is more about the pies, I still rate it 5 stars.
