When we first moved to Newport, Ruwe Family Pharmacy became our pharmacy of choice…read more Sadly, our insurance company has forced us to move the vast majority of our prescriptions to one of the horrible faceless big chains - so much for 'freedom of choice in America" - meaning we can only take our short term Rx's to Ruwe. All the staff here have been nothing but helpful, friendly, personable and understanding. Whereas assistants and pharmacists at the 'big chain' often 'roll their eyes' when you ask them a question, Ruwe's people seem open to any query you send in their direction. One time I had a question about some special eye drops I used when living in Europe that I couldn't find over here anywhere. Turns out they were only available by prescription only and that even with a prescription were hard to obtain, but Ruwe said they would get them if I needed them. Of course it turned out that our insurers wouldn't cover them and the cost was a preposterous $60 for a tiny one-month bottle ($6 in England over-the-counter, go figure). Astonishingly, the pharmacist personally called me a few days later to say she had found an alternate supplier for $10 less, as if to prove their commitment to good customer service. They even delivered a medication to my door when I wasn't able to get to them before they closed, and on another occasion when they didn't have enough quantity of one pill, they again offered to drive the balance to me free of charge as soon as they had them back in stock. This kind of attitude always makes a difference to me and the wife, so we do try and buy all our sundry OTC pharmacy needs from them whenever we can as we hate the idea of them ever succumbing to corporate/supermarket competition. I really cannot fault this place. I just wish we could give them more of our business as they deserve it FAR more than the big chains whose place in history will only be noted for the ugly architecturally-soulless buildings they have erected on way too many city and residential street corners across the country.

I ordered a refill of medication that was to be kept…read morefrozen from Nie's Pharmacy 11745 Madison PikeIndependence, KY 41051 on Jan 14, 2025 and it was shipped by FedEx on Jan 15 in a box labeled Time Sensitive. I received an email from FedEx saying that it would be delivered on Jan 16, but it was not delivered until Jan 18 at 4:55 pm. There had been no adverse weather during this time and no reason for delivery delays. I refused delivery of this medication because it had not been delivered as indicated and I was told by the FedEx driver that it had been here for 2 days in a warm warehouse before finally being delivered. I showed the driver that the box was labeled Time Sensitive and told him that it was to be kept frozen. I told the FedEx driver that I felt that the medication was now compromised so he marked the box as Damaged and Return to Sender. Nie's Pharmacy called me on Monday, Jan 20 at 9:41 am and left a message to call them back. I called them back at 11:37 am and the employee said that they had received my returned package. It took 4 days to be delivered to me, but Nie's Pharmacy received it back in just over a day. I explained to the employee in detail why I had refused delivery of this package containing medication; that it took 4 days to be delivered to me from 60 miles away and that the medication was here at the local FedEx warehouse and sat there for 2 days in a warm warehouse before finally being delivered. The employee stated "We have had a lot of complaints about deliveries from FedEx." I told the employee that I wanted my money, $150.85, refunded and she said that she would talk to the pharmacist, Jack Nie, the owner of Nie's Pharmacy. I then received a call from Nie's Pharmacy at 11:49 am and the employee stated that Nie's Pharmacy was refusing to refund my money because they opened the package and that the temperature strip inside the box indicated that the medication was still within an acceptable range, even though it had been unthawed due to FedEx's failure to deliver this in a Time Sensitive manner. I told the employee that at no time did I ever receive any instructions from Nie's Pharmacy to open the box if it was delayed in shipping to check and see if the medication was still good. No communication was ever received via email, attached to the outside of the box, or on their website https://www.niespharmacy.com about what to do in a situation like this, nor could I call Nie's Pharmacy on Saturday when my package was finally delivered at 4:55 pm because they close on Saturday at 1 pm and are closed on Sunday. Nie's Pharmacy does not have any return policy of any kind on their website and this business is NOT BBB Accredited. The Nie's Pharmacy employee went on to say that I could come and pick up the medication (to an out of state location 60 miles away) or they could reship the same medication that I had just returned via FedEx (a medication that was now unthawed and 6 days old and using FedEx, the same shipping service that had proven to be terrible). I told the employee that either choice was unacceptable and that I was going to dispute the charge with my credit card company and that they [Nie's] had terrible customer service. Her only response was "That's fine". I was fully justified in refusing delivery of this medication due to FedEx's failure to deliver it in a Time Sensitive manner when there were no adverse weather conditions that would have delayed the delivery and the fact that Nie's Pharmacy never provided any instructions about Time Sensitive delivery of medications and what to check for in the case of shipping delays. I was fully justified in thinking that this medication had been compromised and that's why I returned it. I have had other problems with FedEx deliveries from Nie's Pharmacy and I will not do business with Nie's Pharmacy in the future due to their shipping service, that they have acknowledged having problems with, and their terrible customer service for the elderly.

The staff is wonderful from tech right up to pharmacists! My experience with them is solely limited to animal medications, but they will bend over backwards to make it easy to medicate. They can make whatever drug into liquid (any flavor from chicken, to fish or beef), capsule, and even transdermal gel (placed inside ear flap) if you can't pill your pet. All of this is done with a quick turnaround time and at reasonable cost! Most recently I had acquired some powder from my Vet specialist that I was to mix with my dogs food. Yeah no, too bitter no matter what I hid it in. These guys helped me pick out the right size empty capsule and gave me tips on how to easily fill it! The capsules were reasonably priced and they got them ready right away!

So doing your homework for the best prices is necessary. Hills Pharmacy does not have the kindest most professional staff and to me need some training in this area. The pharmacy to me charges way too much for the compounding medications with no exceptions for Seniors. I am out $879.94 because they have overcharged me for these medications. I changed pharmacies because of the bad attitude of the employees and have found they have been scamming me all this money slowly on a monthly basis. I am a 72 year old on Social Security. My insurance does not cover this prescription so I thought this pharmacy would be more understanding and give a fair price. They were not and I have found out that I was SCAMMED by these people is disturbing and makes me mad that Seniors are taken advantage of. $879.94 is a lot of money and not something I can just give up. I am sending this notice so that others who find themselves in this situation will be careful with who you deal with and make sure you are getting a fair price. These are just the figures from receipts I have and does not include taxes or shipping. So we are sure the amount scammed is $2,000.00.

From the start these guys have been super helpful and friendly! Most recently, I stopped in to drop off a new paper prescription, expecting to wait or be told to come back. When the pharmacist heard me say I wanted to check to see if I needed a new discount card, he stopped what he was doing and came over to run the script through to check for me! It was indeed expired, so he looked up a new one for me on the spot! I then figured id need to come back to pick it up but he said he'd fill it now! Unfortunately he realized it was something they needed to order, but their orders always arrive next day! I continue to be impressed by their level of customer service! The place itself isnt super big, but there are several chairs if you need to wait, along with a small selection of items youd find at a pharmacy for purchase. There is even a greeting card section!
