Instead of being able to focus on grieving, she spent months making calls, sending emails, and following up to ensure basic burial arrangements were handled correctly. The day before my grandfather's funeral, we were informed that someone else had been buried in his prepaid, preselected plot, forcing our family to choose a new location under tremendous emotional strain. We chose not to disturb the family whose loved one was placed in my grandfather's plot - a courtesy and compassion that was not shown to us by Hill Country Memorial Gardens at all. Just weeks later, after my grandmother's funeral, we discovered she had been placed in the wrong plot and would not have been buried next to her husband if the mistake had not been caught before the grave was covered. Despite these serious errors, we remained patient and were promised that future requests, including approval and installation of their headstone, would be prioritized. Instead, we experienced months of delays, poor communication, unanswered messages, and broken commitments. I hope no other family has to endure a similar experience, though I have seen reviews of others experiencing similar challenges including quite literally misplacing their loved ones in incorrect graves. Grieving families deserve compassion, accountability, and responsiveness. What should have been a process that brought closure became a year-long source of stress.

Fast forward to us not only being emotionally crushed by a sudden death, but the fact we had no funeral plans. It was unerving to call them while my fathers body was still in the hospital room next to me, but the woman who I talked to on a weekend evening calmly explained the process and assured me we'd get through this as quickly as possible to start the grieving process. They handled everything as they coordinated certificates, transportation, and even got us in touch with a cemetery I had been trying to find a contact for years to for myself. They helped me create a customized service for dad, and were very accommodating to help keep my mother's stress levels down during and after the funeral. The attention to every detail and the personalized care made me get funeral plans for my entire family with them. We had wanted to do something simple with my father after his passing, as we had done with both of…read moremy grandmothers, my brother, and my mother. A simple cremation, and we would handle any gathering for friends at our home after the pandemic was over (my father died from a fall, not COVID). When my mother passed at Baylor Scott & White in Lakeway, the doctor at the hospital gave us a list of local funeral homes, and we chose to deal directly with a crematorium, which was quite affordable (around $650) because it didn't include any other services. My father's assisted living or emergency services must have called WCF, but we weren't given the opportunity to make that choice ourselves...it cost quite a bit more than we were expecting, but I understand the price difference is because they offer more personalized services and a nicer facility if you were going to have a gathering or a viewing. I was very new to all of this, and had only experienced going directly to a crematorium; my father understood that when the time came, we would just do what we did with my grandmothers, my brother, and my mother. We're not very formal people, so a traditional funeral would have been out of place. The staff at WCF was very nice, and since we were in the middle of COVID, we couldn't meet with them in person, so everything was done over Webex or Zoom. I wish we'd had the opportunity to do that in person.
