Don't confuse this spot with the LBJ ranch about 14 miles away. This is a very flat pleasant 1 mile hike through open pasture that has some longhorns, horses, a barn, the old cabin, etc. Things are preserved as part of the national park system, and there are a few information signs to let you know the history of the spot. Perhaps the most amusing thing to me was the sign warning, "Longhorns are dangerous" or something such as that. Now you might say, "What is so damn amusing about that?" There are two auditoriums for shows and events but there weren't any when we visited. There are also brochures for local sites along a wall and a sizable gift shop.

Johnson City is part of the Texan German belt, has an unpretentious old country feel, and deep rooted heritage. Nice afternoon outing and fun to stroll the main strip for antiques and comfort foods.

Despite many old headstones, there are some recent interments here making this an active cemetery. There are quite a few family plots here with the same names. This is a well cared for, orderly cemetery with several large oak trees providing shade. There's also a gravel lane running around the perimeter where you can park. I was surprised to see that they have a porta potty on the property. This would be a peaceful place in the country if it weren't for the noise of US 290. There's still some space on this property for future interments if you would like to make this your forever home.

The red wines were very light and the first 2 too tart for my liking. Everyone has their personal preference. It was definitely worth stopping. Tastings were normally $20 per person and we had purchased Wine Lovers Celebration passport for a couple at $100. If you haven't tried the Texas Wine Passport, it is worth the money.

We failed to make…read morereservations but Mark (owner) accommodated us as there was another party about to start their passport wine tasting. We were able to join the group. As we chatted with the other party, we learned that Siboney Cellars makes a delicious Cuban Sandwich. Will definitely come back to give that a try. As part of the Passport wine tasting, we were offered 4 different wines plus a small food pairing including toasted Cuban bread, Spanish Chorizo, Brie, Onion Bacon Jam and homemade Fudge. Everything was delicious and wine so smooth. I don't normally like Rose Wine but Barbara (owner/wine maker) did a great job, for all their wines. We learned a lot about wines and the vineyard during the food and wine tasting. Mark was so informative and a wealth of knowledge. We felt so special during our visit. Even though I have hundreds of bottles of wines at home, I left with 3 bottles. If you have not been, you should definitely stop by. To get started, we drove to the Southside to Stinson Field and entered the historic terminal. It was no hassle to check in. We walked to the tarmac and boarded the helicopter, which seats four -- so there were us two, the pilot, and an empty seat. When we took off for downtown San Antonio, I'm afraid of heights, so I had to hold on to the grab bar for a little bit, but then the view took my breath away. We got to see landmarks in downtown San Antonio, like the Tower of the Americas, the Central Library, and the Alamo. The view west towards the sunset was beautiful. It was a smooth ride except for a few moments when we passed over some blacktop (the highway) and then there's an updraft. The pilot narrated the tour, answered our questions, and explained things like how fast do helicopters fly. Soon we would like to come back and do one of the longer tours, maybe to see the sunset or to explore more of the Hill Country.
