I had such high hopes to make this my regular pastry shop, because what I've tried has been very good. We don't have pastry shops here in Modesto that you can enjoy besides Mr. T's donuts, but those are donuts (delicious) but I want croissants of various flavors! The Mexican bread sold here is mid and the village cake shop is not good! This is where I miss my hometown of S.F where there is an endless variety of shops you can choose from that are all pretty damn tasty. We lack that here so very much. Modesto is big, but it can be full of nothing. Very disappointed from what it looks like the business may not have worked out.

Not sure why since it's so new but here in lies my biggest issue with save mart. These two particular stores are very close and they are always busy but the old store across from the lake is still vacant. Same happened all over Modesto and this just kills the shops that the old stores used to anchor, why the city let's save mart get away with that makes no sense. The new stores are nice with just about everything you need from bakery, deli, and your usual grocery items. This store has real good service and staff always aim to please. I just noticed today the pineapple coaring machine and the orange juice maker which are cool gadgets to see but not something I would use as I rather make my own. I have to say that the bakery does a really nice job at this store this weekend I tried their 3 leches cake and it was really good. From the first call to the girl I spoke with to picking the cake up was an amazing experience. Placing the order was easy, sent the images thru text, and sent all the details the same way. Then called and placed the final order. When we picked the cake up it got damaged once we arrived at home (100% our fault) we call them immediately and explained what happened to the cake. They said to bring it back and they would try to fix it. Fix it they did!! You couldn't even tell. I am so thankful for Village Baking for making my daughter's 16th birthday cake dream come true. The flavor was fundetti with vanilla custard and it was fresh, and light. Not really a butter cream fan but it was necessary for this cake. The buttercream was light, fully and delicious. It was busy but not too busy when we walked in and we only stood in line for 5 minutes. Alejandra helped us and she was so kind and helpful! We changed our order half way through making it and she adapted so quickly and even asked if we were satisfied with how it tasted. When we told her it was delicious she responded, "Okay, good." And that little response made such a statement to me. How many times do people really stop and ask if you're satisfied? Lol, it's the kind of things I appreciate in customer service!
