I usually shop at this or the other store by the lake less than a couple of miles away. Both stores are fairly new and this one had a re-opening this weekend. Not sure why since it's so new but here in lies my biggest issue with save mart. These two particular stores are very close and they are always busy but the old store across from the lake is still vacant. Same happened all over Modesto and this just kills the shops that the old stores used to anchor, why the city let's save mart get away with that makes no sense. The new stores are nice with just about everything you need from bakery, deli, and your usual grocery items. This store has real good service and staff always aim to please. I just noticed today the pineapple coaring machine and the orange juice maker which are cool gadgets to see but not something I would use as I rather make my own. I have to say that the bakery does a really nice job at this store this weekend I tried their 3 leches cake and it was really good. This poor review is based on the produce and dessert sections. The produce had a ton of visibly moldy and wilted items, at full price no less. The salad mixes also had a lot of moisture inside the containers with wilted lettuce. The desserts all looked really sad and unappetizing, unlike the SM location in Modesto I usually go to. Super annoyed. I was exhausted tonight, entered my PIN code incorrectly, then second guessed myself. Well apparently the cashier decided I pretty sus because she reported my card stolen. I called my bank to figure out why my pin wasn't working, she said the merchant reported it stolen so it was permanently blocked. So instead of asking for my ID and running it as credit she decided to treat me like a criminal. Now I'm going to have go into the bank, get a new card, then update all my bills. I know she thought she was doing the right thing, but she seriously inconvenienced me. I did shop there at least once a week. Won't be going there anymore. read more

The store is nice and clean and some employees are super sweet..Jenn in the bakery is amazing and went above and beyond to get my daughter's birthday cake just right. She even called me when she had questions about the cake which I really appreciated. She's probably the best employee in the Bakery. The only bad thing is that every time I order cakes from this location they have been wrong or messed up. I'm not sure why I even keep ordering at this point because I know better. Yesterday 4/19 we celebrated my daughter's 16th birthday and of course cake was made wrong. While the decorations were perfect the cake was made with strawberry jelly (that I did NOT ask for) and my daughter is allergic to that. So she was the only person who did not get to eat her birthday cake yesterday. I called today to mention my issue and they wanted to offer me $10 off my next cake. Like really? No I want the entire cake remade and at no cost since this was their own mistake. Whoever I spoke to on the phone said I have to mention allergies because the cross contamination. I've never in my life mentioned my daughter's allergies to the strawberry jelly because I don't ever order it. Why would they add stuff inside cakes that were NOT asked for? It makes no sense and now they told me they have cross contamination I don't think I'll ever come back here to order anything from their bakery again. They have ruined every birthday cake I've ordered so yes it's my fault I keep ordering but after yesterday I definitely won't again. Save mart please do better with your employees and train them on cross contamination and how to handle customer orders and concerns. Got home from shopping and realized that a bag was missing. I call the store to "try" and ask if they had put a bag aside that didn't get put in the cart. The young male on the phone would barely let me speak. He kept saying what? Why did you call? He just kept interrupting until I finally said just let me talk and stop interrupting. I told him I was missing a bag of items. He reluctantly aid I will look. About 10 seconds later he comes back on to tell me nothing here. I even checked with my manager. He could have cared less. I love Save Mart and I think the improvements they made to layout and design are beautiful. But last time I was there I bought two onions, two bundles of green onions, two bell peppers, a tomato, a head of iceberg, and a bottle of salsa. 28.00. I can't afford to shop there anymore. I know they are trying to compete with the large warehouse grocer across the street now by offering better product options etc because they can't on price, but this is more than I can absorb as a consumer. Very unhappy that Savemart uses instacart for their curbside delivery. I couldn't pull up my order to see what what I ordered. Also I ordered strawberries and didn't get them. I do think the store is nice when you are able to go in . They have a really great deli & everything is well organized. I absolutely LOVE the new bakery. I've order both birthday cakes and gotten small treats the day of and have no complaints about the quality. I had a great experience with this young red-headed girl at the bakery that gave me some great recommendations on treats. Great service despite being hard at work on those cakes! It makes me sad seeing such harsh reviews on the employees at the bakery despite customer mistakes. They take safety very seriously with our food, and I know if I communicate properly with them they would never do me wrong! read more

December 29th, 2023 maybe between 2-4 pm. Never been to Save Mart before was just running in to grab a few things needed to finish dinner after picking up my Bath & Body order and this was the closest grocery store. People in Riverbank are the kindest people and I've always wanted to live there. Went to self check since I only had a few things , but was having a little trouble since the machine kept saying to wait for help although I didn't need it. An employee came to help and asked if I was trying to use a coupon (which I had in my hand) but told her "no I wasn't". Plain rude (the way she spoke to me, it was rather accusatory, more than asking) no explanation, no "go ahead and try again", just nothing. She turned around and just walked away, so I tried to finish, hard emphasis on try. The machine says wait for help.....why, I'm asking myself? Everything rang up as soon as it ran across the scanner. Oh gawd, here she comes again! Now I'm nervous bc she wasn't very pleasant the first time and she's probably thinking I'm a problem and why did I go to self check if I need so much "help"? Well, my anxiety is why and I don't want to hold anyone up, including employees and patrons. I won't go back there again. What may sound like a simple and small deal to some but to me, smiling and/or being nice/pleasant is FREE Especially dealing with the public I know it's hard but you shouldn't do it if you always look like you just did a shot of tequila and sucked a lemon! Remember: SMILE IT'S FREE do that shit more! This was my go to store when I lived just down the street. Now I come here whenever I am nearby and need to grab some items on my way home to Modesto. The store is very clean. Most of the employees are friendly. Pricing is on the higher side unless you are buying sale items. They do have some good sales. If you want a good sandwich, give their deli a try. They have lots of hot and cold ready to serve items as well as specialty foods. The bakery has some great stuff too. read more

All I can say positive is that the store is nice , newer and has a nice appearance. Now on the other hand , I feel like the prices are outrages. I some milk , cheese and noodles and a couple of small items not even filling up1 plactic hand bag and spent $88.00. Normally I fill up a whole shopping cart at Winco's for less than $200.00. This place is way too expensive especially for the Central Valley. I would only recommend coming here for maybe 1 item but that's about it. I called this location asking if they had Lays kettle chips flaming hot flavor in stock. Whoever I spoke to on the phone said they had a lot because they recently re-stocked so I drove from ripon which is about a 30 minute drive to the store. When I arrived I noticed they did not have the chip in stock at all and the person that I spoke to on the phone honestly didn't bother to check their inventory and just assume that they had it. So one star for garbage customer service because if I call and ask I would expect you to at least go check your inventory or look it up before lying to a customer. Only reason there isn't 0 stars is because when I got there and asked other employees they tried to find the chip for me and I could obviously tell they felt bad for me since I drove so far. Im never coming back to this savemart especially since there are so many others in the area with at least decent customer service. read more

I'm posting for my dad. He's on the older side and is not well with technology. He has a great experience with his recent experience where Andrea, helped him out with his little grocery list. She took the time to help him locate all of his items and he even enjoyed the small talk. Andrea made sure his list was complete. Zero stars. Always long lines no matter what day it is. Today I purchased ice cream and there was once again only 2 registers open and long lines. To save the melting of my ice-cream on one of the hottest days of the year, I figured I'd give self-checkout a try again since my last painful experience, but nope, this one did me in. *use Self-checkout and get treated like a second-class citizen. No one around to give you bags. The scanner went off 15 + times for store assistance. No one came to assist despite 4 employees 30 feet away. Another lady next to me was having the same issue. Finally, I hollered for some help and Cindy "one of the managers" came over with a stark attitude and basically blamed me - the customer - for using self checkout with 3 more items over the limit, me for not scanning, not having a bag, not bagging items, and not taking item off the tray fast enough! (Yes, she said all this!) When I called for help the 5th time the machine stopped, she got frustrated with me - the customer! Short of walking out and leaving my groceries, I told her I was going to file a complaint. Guess what her response was, "that's fine, you can do that ma'am!" Store Manager Robert will be hearing from me. He must reel in the staff with their attitudes, teach them some customer service, and make sure more registers and self-checkout staff are available for us customers. Came here to buy our Christmas tree around 10:30am on a Sunday (12/4/22) to find the gate locked and no staff out there to help. As we headed over to Home Depot, I called Savemart to ask about it, and they said we needed to come into the store to ask for someone to come out there. With 3 kids in tow, it's just not ideal for the customer to park by the trees (pretty far away from the store), have to go into the store to track someone down, walk back out to pick out our tree, walk back in the store to pay for the tree, and walk back out to load up the tree. That's ridiculous. Not to mention, there was no sign to explain any of this. It just looked closed. Two other customers were trying to get in at the same time as us, and they both got in their cars & left. Lost customers! Thankfully, right next door, Home Depot had their gates open with an employee posted up there to help. And the prices were comparable. We're happy with our beautiful tree from Home Depot. read more

I really do shop a lot here, even though the prices truly are not 'saving' you much when compared to Safeway or even Obriens sometimes. But it's convenient since it is down the street and I have come to make good friends with a couple of clerks and guys in the meat dept. They have made it a point to have more BOGO items and even have had more sales with the 'five for Five'. I have been shopping at this Save Mart location since it opened...I think in October of 2007? I have always frequented Save marts all over Modesto for their prices, produce and meat. The Riverbank location has all that and seems to amp it up a step further with quality customer service. We are always greeted by employees as we enter, we are immediately asked if we need help at the meat department...sometimes when we're not even looking, and most of the people who work there just seem to be happy to be there. That is a trait hard to come by in many retail/customer service jobs...believe me, I know from personal experience! My husband and I do ALL of our grocery shopping here, and while prices on everything these days seem to be going up, its always nice to see the savings in black and white at the bottom of my grocery receipt...the clerks ALWAYS make it a point to circle the savings and let you know how much you saved. Compared to Modesto/Riverbanks other options (O'Brien's, Safeway & Raley's) I probably save an average of $50 every time do my "big" shopping at Save Mart (ie; stock the fridge and cupboards to the brim). We are in the store an average of 3 to 5 times a week because it is so close to our house, and have gotten to know one of the managers there, (I can't remember his name right now...) and he always makes it a point to come up to us and chat for a second, like old friends. Cheesy? Maybe. But it makes me feel welcome in that store. There's nothing I hate more than poor customer service, and I know when I shop at this Save Mart, I will be treated great by people with good attitudes. read more

Save Mart is my go to in my neighborhood when I don't have time to drive to Sprouts. I am always satisfied when I leave Save Mart. The prices are a bit above average to me but if you buy what's on sale then you shouldn't have a problem. The meat selection and meat deli have nice cuts of meat for a decent price. Sometimes when we are lazy and don't feel like cooking dinner we will get a whole chicken, fried or rotisserie, 2 sides and a bread of your choice and it's only 8.99. The cornbread there is freshly made and delicious. I once went to the bakery and got a birthday cake and wanted something not so appropriate written on it. The baker was really giggly and shy but she went and did it! We were so happy it made the birthday party complete! I like their produce section though I wish their organic selection was a bit larger as I prefer to eat organic fruits and veggies but I cannot get what I need completely at Save Mart if I want to eat strictly organic. One more downside is they are always pretty busy and even though they have a grip of registers only 1-3 will be open at a time. I never understand that since I always see employees aimlessly walking around. The store is nice, clean and organized so maybe that is the employees focus. The alcohol beverage section is also large and they have a nice variety of craft beers. I got a Voodoo Doughnuts specialty beer which was salted pretzel and raspberry flavored. MMMmmm haven't seen that anywhere else. What's also awesome about this Save Mart is it's in the same shopping center as Target, Best Buy, Kohls, Famous Footwear, Ulta and tons of other restaurants and stores so you can get all of your shopping needs out of the way. This is my local grocery store, the customer service is usually on point but after my 3rd time of waiting for pulled pork in the crockpot for 8 hours to take it out for it to be nothing but fat, like a gross amount. For 20 dollars I could have just went to Applebee's, which is now where I'll end up cause dinner is gross. I'll keep coming for the basics because it's close the quality hasn't been good lately :( read more
