Super fun resort! It's very old school but an awesome place to visit for the day or with a biker friend in your life. There are bars all over. An indoor bar, an outdoor tiki bar, backyard bars. It's really cool. There are also lakes and a swimming pool for when it's super hot like it was this past weekend when we went. We came here for a motorcycle event & had a really good time. The indoor bar had live music and strong drinks. The drinks were served in a big soup container for $15. Not bad for how much you're getting. The bar also had a menu with pretty good food. I was so hungry I didn't get a picture but I tried the chicken and cheese quesadilla and onion rings. Really tasty. The overall vibe was really awesome & everyone is super friendly around. We didn't stay here overnight but a few of our friends did & loved the experience. I'd deff come back!

World's smallest bar of soap. Possibly stolen from Riker's Island.

Dilapidated, run down, neglected. I booked a room for 4 nights but I left after 3. All the buildings are in desperate need of renovation. That "Rustic Charm" only goes so far! All the buildings are sagging and the rain gutters are so full of debris that there are weeds growing out of them. My friends stayed in a room that had only one electrical outlet. Everything, refrigerator, television, microwave and air conditioner, was plugged into that one outlet! No wonder they had a fire a few years ago! They had a magician performing one night in the bar. I was there with some friends and there were some Trailer Trash, (seasonal renters living in RV's at the Blackthorne), seated at the bar. They were loud and obnoxious. The magician asked them a few times to keep the noise down so that he could do his act but they couldn't be bothered to be polite. Finally, I asked one of them seated next to me if he could "keep it down". He said "No", and then he made a steady stream of insults directed at me. Finally, after the magic show ended, I got up to leave and the bum next to me called me a douchebag. I gave him the one-finger salute as I was exiting and he followed me outside and wanted to fight me! I asked him if he was 11 or 12 years old and that seemed to stop him cold. Too dumb to understand. I left the next day and I will never be back. The only thing that I can do is to try to keep other vacationers from wasting their time at this dump.

The only positive was the property. The shower had no not water. Coffee pot with no coffee or heat resistant cups. Just plastic cups. When I went to the front desk and asked for cups for coffee they had no idea coffee pots were in the room. Weird. Stains on towels and bedding. Hairs on bathroom floor. Stains in fridge. Just disgusting. I could go on and on... pictures show everything. No concern for patrons.

The playground was incredible! The girls played every day...and made new friends too.

Just returned from an amazing Memorial Day weekend here. This place blew me away. It is a beautiful, clean, and friendly resort with hidden treasures everywhere (hint:find the Honey Tree for a shot!). The owners obviously take great pride in this place...the little details are amazing. The restaurant was great. The bar is open late and always buzzing. And the live music was incredible! We had the best time. Thank you to Dale and Colleen for being incredible hosts to our family! We look forward to visiting again very soon.

The haunted house is permanent. Just FYI if you have little kids who would be afraid of this.

I cannot for the life of me figure out who would give this place a positive review. We just stayed here for a week and my whole family was so happy to leave. First, during COVID 19 don't expect to see any sort of social distancing or mask wearing enforced here. The lady at the front desk wore a mask and that was it. Not the cleaning staff, grounds staff, no one else, and tons of families all packed into the pool and tiki bar like there's no pandemic happening. And our room was filthy even when we checked in. I had brought cleaning wipes and Lysol and did my best to sanitize everything, including the remote bolted to the nightstand. We never ate here because I didn't want to chance it honestly. Overall, just filthy and gross. I worry for the poor animals there, the sweet goats did appear to have fresh food at least. As for the other reviews posted about racist attitudes here, I am not at all surprised, one look at the business's Facebook page will tell you all you need to know about that. Probably explains the lack of COVID cleaning or enforcement too.

The main event hall at blackthorn is beautiful and spacious!

My wife is from LI and grew up coming, so here I am. The nostaglia factor is huge here, and I don't have it. So to be fair all around, I'm noting what I have experienced and grading them on the food. Place is upstate ghetto, and I mean that in a good way. There is plenty to do, however most of it is comparable to a park. There is a swimming pool, pool slide, lake, boats, playground structures, pool, basketball, video games, shuffleboard and more. Lots of outdoor activities. The great thing is being with other families with young kids, and being able to drink with the other parents while the kids go off. They also do stuff like a hayride--no hay included, just a dude speeding in a pickup truck on the country roads--a DJ night and a visit to a farm. They make the most of the area which is good. Accommodations are simple, however they have upgraded some of the rooms which has made it a lot better than it was. The food is better than it has any business being. All meals are 100% homemade, themed with 1 offering each, all you can eat, include dessert, and it is worth noting what is served on what day. The best by far is the roast beef, which is accompanied by german potatoes fried in bacon fat. They are superb, especially with some gravy and the rare roast beef. Thanksgiving is another good one, as are the homemade cold cuts. It doesn't always make sense, however have never had a 'bad' meal here. Even the baked ziti isn't bad. Always ask for the lemonade. Weirdest damn thing is they never have fries (not even at the lunch counter). Shakes at the lunch counter are superb though, as is the over buttered popcorn. I've grown to like coming here, and my son loves it. That's enough for me. Wish there was a brewery nearby or something instead of the stupid golf course, but such is life.

We knew we needed a place for 150 people and we knew we wanted it to be drivable for both family and friends in upstate New York and Boston.   We stumbled upon The Lake House Guest Cottages of the Berkshires after months of searching, but the only wedding we had seen hosted there was inside the main cottage. Reluctantly, we decided it was probably too small for us.   Fast forward another month.  Randomly one night, my wife and I both separately pulled up the venue again and I said, "We need to just call them. Maybe they have some grass we can put a tent on." After a couple of email exchanges, Eric, the owner, and Cory, the grounds keeper, invited us out to see the space and were instantly sold. The beautiful grounds, the stunning cottages (or as we like to call them, "mini mansions"), THE VIEW.   Not only did they have four cottages on site where guests could stay, but they also had a field where they had placed a tent for previous weddings that could hold up to 150 guests. We soon found out that over the winter months they would be adding three additional cottages for guests to stay and a seasonal tent to be used for weddings throughout the summer and fall. Needless to say, we booked it.   A couple months into planning, LHGC added a wedding coordinator to their awesome team.  We connected with Kelsey instantly, discussing plans we had made and things we had coming down the line. She was always available if we had a question or concern. Come time to do our walk through before the wedding, we laid out the entire day with the help of Kelsey and our caterer.  We walked away knowing we had the dream team on board.   When our weekend approached, all the new additions were complete and the space was more beautiful than ever. We had our rehearsal brunch Friday morning and welcome party Friday night, both of which allowed for the caterers to take full advantage of the catering kitchen in the main cottage. Kelsey and Cory were completely accommodating and there from start to finish to help with anything we needed.   Our guests arrived sporadically from Friday morning through the evening and spent time playing lawn games, kayaking and paddleboarding on the lake, and enjoying each other's company.  It was so nice to have the entire grounds at our disposal.   On our wedding day, it was just the same. Everything went off seamlessly. Kelsey and Cory were both there if something came up, made sure that set up was perfect, ran the ceremony and reception smoothly and effortlessly.   Our wedding was perfect. It was everything we could have dreamed it to be and more.   Thank you, LHGC, for welcoming us to the family!  We look forward to spending many anniversaries with you on Pontoosuc Lake!

The waitresses are very kind and dressed in traditional German dresses and the live music is a great touch. To start, I ordered a Long Island Iced Tea that had a bit too much punch to it. The alcohol ratio was quite off and was very hard to drink. I asked for a soda to try and dumb it down, but was only able to get about half way through it. Though this was my fault for not ordering a beer at a German restaurant, I still would have liked the drink to be a bit tastier and is unfortunately the only thing keeping this review from being a shinning 5-stars. For my meal I ordered the sauerbraten which did NOT disappoint! The beef was very tender and the vinegar mixed with the gravy was the perfect level of sour and hearty. The red hot red cabbage was hot and flavorful and the potato pancakes were perfectly cooked. The side of applesauce put on top of the potato pancakes added the right amount of sweetness. A friend got the special rouladen which I got a taste of and was very delicious. The pickles inside were flavorful and the meat was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The menu is a bit pricey, but the portions are deceptively filling. I definitely expected to be hungry after but I finished my plate absolutely stuffed! Overall, this was a great experience and would recommend anyone looking for a taste of Germany to give this a try.
