Even though the Acra Manor is closed I'll never forget the great times I had with my parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, and cousins. I never thought to review this place since I hadn't been here since I was about 5 years old but it holds a special place in my heart. We had our wedding here last year The food was great no complaints It was top shelf Yes the rooms are trash They are so out dated We had people come from all over and the only complaints were the rooms and during the wedding the Air conditioners couldn't keep it cool And yes a big $2.00 key charge was a joke It's sad they won't update it cause there are no resorts left any more The staff we had were great September 10 the pool was drained to look at it looks like it was never opened read more

In its heyday this must have really been the place to be ! It's loaded with history from a forgotten time when the Catskills were a vacation hotspot. It's a family run operation for 70 years. The best way to describe it is like a summer camp for the whole family. The food was good and the owners and staff treat you like family. We stayed from Thursday to Monday over the Labor Day weekend. We met people who have been coming there for years (which was most actually) the activities director Larry is very personable does a great job keeping everyone busy. If your looking for a five star corporate resort this is not the place for you (I've stay in those quite often also) but if your looking for a unique experience with down to earth real people who will try to make your stay a pleasant one and treat you like your a part of the family then it's worth the trip. The absolute worst "resort" ever. My family and I traveled from different states for a family reunion. We were supposed to be there from a Friday to Monday over labor day weekend. We checked in on Friday night. The dinner on Friday was definitely an indication that this place was not going to work out. Meals: The meals are served in the dining room. You are seated with your party at the same table throughout your stay. Dinner: The waitress brings you a menu for dinner and you choose your appetizer, entree and dessert. After dinner there are complimentary adult drinks. I couldn't tell you what it consisted of. The dinner was flavorless. They served pasta with each dinner service and there were giant flies resting in the bowls of cheese. Gross!!! After the first night, my family and I went to the local Walmart and bought food to last us through the next day. The only item that I enjoyed was the steak that was served on what we decided was our final night, Saturday. Breakfast: Breakfast is served buffet style consisted of various stale cereals, "eggs", sweet canned ham, sausage, thin bacon, pancakes, waffles, pastries, muffins, toast, cream cheese, fruit, juices, tea, coffee and milk. Thank goodness for the bagels and cereal or else my kid and I would have starved. The grounds: We had 2 children and a teenager with us so when we were looking for places to book our reunion, activities were important. The website boasted of a Fitness Room, Tanning Room, Tennis, Bocci, Handball, Sauna, Jacuzzi, Outdoor pool, Indoor pool, Kiddie pool, Children's playground, Shuffleboard, Volleyball, Ping-pong, Horseshoes Indoor recreation room, Hiking trails, Nearby lake for boating & fishing, Paint Ball, Roller Skating, Rock Climbing Wall. Let's just say, the playground consisted of 3-4 swings and a bouncy house. The tennis, basketball and volleyball courts have not been maintained. We used the indoor pool. This area was also not maintained well. The indoor poolside chairs were rusty and old. The pool area had a weird smell. The rec room consisted of pay to play machines and the workout room was closed. Due to the weather, we didn't use the outdoor pool and jacuzzi. I didn't see any of the other activities. This place has the potential to be a nice resort but the grounds and property have not been maintained by the owners. The rooms: I think one reviewer said, imagine roadside motel mixed with a summer camp. The rooms are disgusting. There wasn't one time that I allowed my foot to touch the floor. My kid and I wore our swimming shoes in the shower. I wouldn't allow the pillowcase or sheets to touch our faces. This place needs a good cleaning with bleach, ammonia and a demolition crew. The drop ceiling was discolored. The wallpaper was discolored. The drapes were discolored and dirty. The shower was moldy. The towels were only suitable for placing on the floor. Early departure: Although we were booked to stay until Labor day, we, 6 rooms, checked out Sunday morning because my aunt was ravished by bedbugs. I showed the front desk clerks photos of her arms and the pillows and they had nothing to say. Not a sorry, not a let me see if we can reimburse her, nothing. I dont understand some people. Tell me the price you pay for a room, entertainment, Food, and a social director, you can find else where. It is very reasonably priced. The dinner is excellent and plentiful and staff is very accomadating. the breakfast buffet could be alot better, Same old scrambled eggs every day. So what, the rooms are a little outdated, you just sleep in them, you are not in them all day. We love this place and can not wait until next year to go back. read more

Was there for a wedding, room had a smell of mold, looked at AC unit and was covered. Management didn't want to clean it properly so I demanded a new one. Every other place was booked so I had no choice to stay. Very out dated and deteriorating, they actually had room keys, old TVs, bathroom seemed wiped down but not clean. read more

Went there for a 3 day weekend for a family reunion. The area is beautiful and the mountains are breath taking. My family and I had a wonderful time there! They have an indoor and outdoor pool, poolside bar, jacuzzi, shuffle board courts, a bouncy house for the kids, a game room with awesome old school arcade games, pool table and ping pong tables. There is a counselor there(Larry) that organizes activities throughout the day. He's great with people and it's never a dull moment with him. He makes sure that everyone is having a good time. The dinning room is beautiful and the food was amazing and the portions were plentiful. Breakfast is buffet style which everyone loved. There is also a little coffee shop in the lobby to buy snacks at during the day between meals. They also have a nightclub with entertainment after dinner and a bar that stays open till about 3am. The rooms could use a little updating but they're not bad. Clean beds, bathroom and floor. The tv is a tube tv (no flat screens) but honestly, we spent so little time in the room that that didn't even matter. There is also free WiFi and parking for hotel guests which was great because a lot of places charge for that. My family and I are definitely coming back next year! read more

This is one of the worst hotels or motels I have ever stayed at. Chipping wall paper, damaged ceiling tiles, no hair dryer or wi-fi, no hooks for your nightie on the bathroom door, not even a laundry bag. Subpar. read more

We had our Wedding reception here last week and I can't say enough good things! The staff was excellent and the food was delicious. Everyone that attended can't stop talking about it. We had the entire resort to ourselves the whole weekend and the price was super affordable ! I couldn't of asked for anything better! Highly recommend!! read more

Acra Manor & Resort...that's a joke. It is not a manor nor is it a resort in any way, shape or form. It is worse than a roadside motel along the highway. If there was a way to give it no stars or negative stars, I would have done so. This place is family owned and it seems like every aunt, uncle, mother, father and son work here. Their cleaning staff are not part of the family and I'm not sure if their wait staff is part of the family either...I doubt it. We had our first family reunion at Acra Manor this past weekend...what a terrible place to (1) have a family gathering and (2) spend Labor Day weekend. The majority of us were booked in for four days and three nights. We had family members come from different parts of the USA to this location and it was a complete dump and utter letdown. Wait, let me back-up a bit...the grounds are beautiful. The time, care and energy that they put into maintaining the grounds, I wish they would put that into the actual accommodations and meals. Whoever does their cooking needs to be taught how to cook. Don't get me wrong, they definitely tried their best, but...no. I could go on about what we were served, but what would be the point. the food was not good...edible, but not good. At breakfast time, whatever cereal was not eaten by the guests, was poured back into the boxes they came from...I wonder how long that box of Cheerios has been hanging around!! The place is a DUMP!!! The rooms has carpet that looks like it hadn't been cleaned since the place first opened over 70 years ago. The "updated" rooms were dark and dingy and riddled with spiders...my nephew had to get rid of them not only from my room but his as well. We wound up going to Walmart (thank God there was one) to get linen to put over their linen so that we could sleep. The bedspread was a horrible dark green and brown. When we removed it, the brown blanket over the sheets was torn in the middle like cats had gotten hold of it and scratched the daylights out of it. When we took a look at their pillows, there were all kinds of stains and wet marks and rips...thankfully we had the good sense to buy pillowcases to put over their pillowcases before we even saw this. In the "older" section of the "resort", the rooms were a little brighter but the pillows had the same wet stains and in this case, bug spots. Let's not even talk about the furniture!!! Oh boy...what a mess. As a family, we made the decision to stick it out and enjoy our reunion because it's not everyday that a good portion of your family comes together in one place. However, that was before my sister was eaten by BED BUGS!!!! Yes, you heard me/read correctly...BED BUGS!!!! We got the hell out of there. Instead of leaving on Monday as planned, we left of Sunday, right after breakfast. When I went to check out, I was told that this was the first time they ever heard of this problem at their place...Really??? I don't think so. We were not offered any compensation for the extra night we had already paid for but would not use (yes, you pay when you check in). We were given the $2 deposit we were charged for the return of each key. No one said sorry, no one asked if there was anything they could do, no one asked if we were ok...Nothing...nada...zip!! This place needs to be shut down and re-vamped. I'm sure it was a great place in it's heyday, but definitely not today. It looks like the family is trying to keep the place open based on what is was 70 years ago. We will never, ever stay here again and we will never recommend it to others. My advice to the owners...LET IT GO. IT IS OVER. You are trying to do too much with the horrible rooms, the coffee shop, the weddings, the two pools and hot-tub, the unfinished game room, the fitness room, the card room, the tanning room (all locked) You cannot run a place based on yesteryear!! read more

I had my reception at Acra Manor and it went so much better than I thought it would. My groom and I got ready at the hotel before heading off to the church where the ceremony was held. The owners and staff were amazing at making sure our special day was one to remember with good thoughts. The flow of the reception went smoothly, I didn't feel rushed or anxious to get any event of the reception started or finished. The food was delicious, I've been told that the bride usually doesn't get to eat but I made sure to sample the nachos from the mexican cart at the cocktail hour and eat my chicken cordon blue dinner. Wow, this place is something. Think: roadside motel mixed with summer camp. We were here for a wedding so clearly I am not the target audience but yeesh. The room was tiny and we could only get a double bed. The bathroom sink was one of those that you find in a public restroom, you know, the kind that you have to hold the faucet handle in order to make the water come out and as soon as you let go the water stops. On top of that there WAS NO HOT WATER IN THE SHOWER! I was just there for a night so I did not bother asking them to fix it and the proprieters was very nice so they might have. Anyway, the place is sort of geared to the summer vacation crowd and I imagine it is designed for little kids to be running in and out with pool water gushing off them so it is just sort of a let down when you pack up all your fancy 'goin to a wedding' clothes, just to walk into a room that wouldn't know fancy from a hole in the ground. The moutains are nice to look at if you can look past the water/oil tank thing and the bunker stucture out the front door. The Catskills are beautiful, this place is not. read more

My family stayed at acra manor last august. We cant say enough good things about the hotel. The counselor larry had non stop activities all day long into the wee hours of the night.They had entertainment every night. rooms were clean. Been going to Acra manor my entire life my family has been going there for over 40 years! We always have family reunions and can't tell you how much fun we always have! The staff is very accommodating and friendly the endless list of activities are great for kids, teens, and adults from the time you arrive until the day you leave your day is packed with fun activities there's never a dull moment. The property has and indoor pool, huge outdoor pool with a tiki bar, jacuzzi, playground, gym, tanning bed and arcade. Also the property is pet friendly huge plus and the rooms are very spacious and clean. The breakfast buffet every morning is one of the best I've had they have everything from meats, eggs, potatoes, pancakes, French toast, bagels, cereal, fresh fruit, danishes, juices, milk, tea , and coffee you definitely will not be disappointed and be full for throughout the day. The dinners are excellent as well 4 course meal comes with appetizers, soup, salad, or pasta depending on the night and you chose from 4 different main entrees prepared by a professional chef the entrees are delicious and very filling and desert buffet style some nights or a pick of 5-6 deserts. Trust me you won't be disappointed on staying here great and fun trip for people of all ages you definitely will not want to go home. read more
