The acoustics in the bar are not that awesome. That was probably my biggest frustration with our meal, as there were two pretty large tables of very rowdy guests. Had they not been quite so loud I think everyone could have spoken at a normal level. We were there around 8pm but it was nearly impossible to hear anyone at my table. The food was pretty good, but we waited quite a while. If you get the blt, they aren't kidding about having 1/2 a pound of bacon on it. Our waiter wasn't that attentive but the other waitresses seemed to be. Maybe just an off day... Side salads were pretty big, and the fish and chips came with more than enough. As long as you aren't in a hurry or want an intimate meal, you're fine here. read more

I love the courtesy of waitstaff at Blackthorn!! They just closed the kitchen and yet they gave that warm welcome and made us food too! Friendly atmosphere! I ordered the steak cooked to medium well and the waitress suggested to me politely that I should consider ordering medium!! She was spot on about overcooking and I was able to enjoy steak the way I wanted! I've been wanting to go to Blackthorn since the place opened two months ago. But, they open later in the afternoon (4pm), and I've been wanting to head there for lunch. I finally got there today. Unfortunately, the food wasn't all that great! I had the curry chicken soup, which didn't have much 'zip' to it, sadly. I also shared an order of the fish and chips, which I heard were great...but, was just o.k. Kinda greasy and limp....in the sort of way where you wish you had a paper towel to sop up the extra grease with. And, it needed more 'crunch' to the coating. The chips were pleasantly seasoned, but limp as well. I will say, though, that the beer selection was wonderful. They had a nice mix (on drought) of atypical beers I knew well (e.g. Bells, Harp) and some I had yet to try. I like that. And, they're willing to let you try a taster...which is always quite appreciated. I think Blackthorn will make a great addition to the area. I hope to find an increase in the quality of the food next time I go, though. I WILL go again, especially once they gain sufficient business to open up earlier in the day! The staff was great, too! This is our Cheers... Blackthorn knows how to cook a fresh, from scratch meal. They keep some great standards but the special menu, which is on rotation every two weeks, is where it is at! Well, I was super surprised downtown (formally an antique Mecca) has restaurants. After hearing multiple positive reviews I decided to dive in and was not disappointed. The menu was interesting with good standards and specials. The potato nachos are the current go to app when I go. Burgers are great, salads good too. I've had it tried many things and have yet to be disappointed. The decor is nice and the staff is on top of things. Occasionally they have live music as well. read more

Then once we had our table, the manager came over and asked to see my wife's ID again because "he heard it was fake". After examining it, he determined in his had that it was fake. So, we pulled a cop in to look at her ID and he told the manager it was a real ID. The manager still was a jerk and refused to serve us. So we left. Amazing creative food. This week they have these delicious fried oysters. The batter is simply heaven and the oysters are beyond wonderful.

Amazing- I am so impressed. 90% of the time when I finish a dinner out, I think "I could have made this better at home". This is one of those rare places where I would return and give them money to make me food. We had the half chicken special, that came with the best potato salad I have ever had. I came here for the first time on a Friday night. It's a sweet little place; one giant room with exposed brick on each side, a bar in the back, and a few tv's with the game on. Our party of three had to wait for 30mins, but no biggie, as the live music was spot on. Kudos to that guy! Now for the important stuff. Breakfast burger. Nuf said. Seriously it was awesome. It's exactly what your thinking when you hear 'breakfast burger' and what you're already starting to salivate about. It comes with skinny fries, u know like borderline hashbrowns, but all in all they were still delish. $6 IPA to top it off and I was out of there for $20. What a great spot for a Friday night! Great beer selection. Live music was awesome!!! I had the salmon with a side ceaser salad and you better come hungry! The side salad was a nice size to have as an appetizer and the salmon was couldn't have tasted better. I don't normally give 5 stars for a place that isn't a 5 star dining experience. However, this is different. I read a review where somebody complained about the acoustics and the volume. This IS an Irish Pub. It's meant to be loud. It's like a Common House. Lots of folks talking, having a great time and just enjoying themselves. The ceilings are high in this old brick building. It's what it is.....if you carpeted the floors, brought in some sound panels it would lose it's personality. It you want a quiet, romantic dinner, I might suggest down the street. Our service was wonderful despite the place being full-on packed to the gills on a Saturday night. They have huge selection of beers. Although I don't drink beer, my wife does and she made a choice that our waitress recommended. She said it was perfection in a glass !! The food? I wasn't expecting a whole lot, but boy was I wrong. We ordered the poutine. It was the best poutine we've had. The gravy they make is indeed special. The fries are obviously hand cut and the cheese curds were huge and tasty. The best poutine anywhere. My wife ordered the flat iron steak, it was cooked perfectly as she had ordered it. I tried it and it was downright tasty!!! The salads coming out of the kitchen look like artwork !!! I ordered Fish and Chips minus chips add Mashed. The Fish was one big piece of fresh tasty haddock. It was destroyed by a ton of breading, but lightly breaded perfectly. It was wonderful. The mashed were not just mashed but obviously their Colcannon. They were SO SO good. I'm a huge mashed potatoes guy. These are awesome, truly awesome. Even their cole slaw was wonderful. It was a vinegar slaw, not creamy. It reminded me of the old Dukes Fish and Chips slaw. As far as serving size goes, they were HUGE. We brought half our food home with us !!!!
