We ordered around 8:15 PM, a Cuban Crush and a Margherita Pizza, and got our food around 8:55 PM. Between the time we ordered and when we got our food, we did not see our server, Erica G. When we saw her 10 minutes after that, we let her know that some of our food came out cold. Her solution was to reheat the cold food or remake it. After being there around an hour, we really did not feel like staying, so we asked for neither. She sent her manager to talk to us. We did not catch his name, but he was wearing a University of Miami polo shirt. He offered the same solutions. When asked why we didn't have food for 45 minutes, he said a pizza can take up to 15 minutes to make and they were very busy. When I asked what he meant, the restaurant was not full, he asked if I wanted my food or not. I told him no, that I didn't really care for cold food and I was not sure if it was safe to eat. When I asked him that why we had not seen a server from the time we ordered until then, he said "What? Because your drink was empty or something?" At that point, I did not really want to argue over cold food and a waste of time, so we paid for our food and left. It was pretty disappointing to wait 40-45 minutes for cold food. It felt like our server went on break and no one covered for her, or noticed that some tables were going without service. I hope this is not what we should expect from Hamlin Pub. The inside seating of the taproom was quite packed on the beautiful December Saturday. The market and the taproom are worth a trip when visiting downtown Flint. We will be back!

We decided to stick around anyway to see if we would get seated. Thankfully, one of the owners came by and asked if we had been helped. She offered us a spot in the pub area, we just had to wait 5 minutes. The pub area looks like something out of my childhood. It was a bit dated, but I think that was the general theme of the restaurant. Kind of reminded me of an old golf clubhouse. Once we were sat in the pub area young man helped us from behind the bar. He was by himself with quite a few tables, but he was very prompt and helpful. I ordered the strip steak that came with mashed potatoes and green beans. I also got their French onion soup to start. Our food came out fairly quick and everything was pretty darn delicious. I would say the initial interaction with the hostess was the biggest drawback for this experience. The waitress told me the gratuity was added because the bill was over $100. That policy was not posted anywhere on the menu or on the chalkboard. As a result, the server was tipped twice. This lack of transparency is unacceptable, and I will not be returning.
