Every time I come back to see my family I come over here at least once. I love this place! There may be less than 20 beers on tap, but it is still one of the best selections of beer taps! Every time I come for a visit there are some very good and unique beers. (my favorite was when they had the Southern Tier crème brulee portar). The food is much better than the average bar. Have not been disappointed with any of the food that I've had here. Strongly recommend stopping in for a beer and a snack. Also have heard that the live shows are great. Probably the best grilled pork chop (lean, tender, juicy, with savory seasonings) I've ever had, atop a creamy but light rutabaga mash, finished off with a Granny Smith apple slaw - I'm pretty sure there was some Irish butter in the mix. Delectable! The classic shepherds pie delivered and then some (enjoyed the pronounced flavor of the stout). Fish & chips, crispy exterior, moist and juicy inside, not greasy. Really good crisp, tender and perfectly seasoned fries. The heat of the spicy burger had a wonderful depth of flavor, but it was a smidge over cooked. The Blackthorn (signature sandwich) is kind of a run of the mill French dip. The reuben fritters were fun to try, cooked just right, but not a hit with our family. Pleasant atmosphere. Great service. This place is in our rotation and we have always left happy. I have had several items on the menu and have tried many of the specials. The place is pretty small and can get noisy. A great beer selection. Decent food and prices are reasonable. read more

Yuck. We started with the Ruben fritters. They were ok. Unusual, but i don't mind that. I had the burger and instead of fries I chose the side salad. Burger was meh. Salad was a pile of lettuce. Just lettuce. Nothing else. Nope, not even a piece of something else. Lettuce. We were there at 3:00 in the afternoon, place was fairly empty but dirty dishes on several tables still. I live in holly and figured I would give this place a try. The waiter was very knowledgeable about his beer selection and was helpful in my decision. he recommended I try the catfish. I did and I gotta say, it was horrible.there was no seasoning at all,I mean, it was just corn meal. Then they put this lemon garlic sauce on it which besides having no flavor at all, you barely got any!! I mean they put like two squirts over it..then the rice was obviously what was scraped from the bottom of the pan as it was rock hard. Overall cool atmosphere and good service.But for me, some of the worst food I've had at a pub. read more

I've lived in Holly for many years & everyone I know always says how great Blackthorn is. Tonight my husband & I decided to try it out... We were not impressed from the moment we walked in. There was a server sitting at table taking an order (a personal pet peeve of mine) & told us we could sit anywhere. Every table we saw had empty glasses on it or still needed to be wiped off. We sat at the cleanest one we could find. I'm a craft beer fan & loved the selection. I choose a Purple Haze because it was $3.50 & one of my favs. My husband got a captain & coke. For dinner we both ordered burgers. He got the pub & I the breakfast. They were nothing to brag about. Their medium is more medium well & slightly dry. The Siracha mayo was really good. I had it on the side so I dipped the fries in it to give them some flavor. I love French fries & salads & both were a disappointment. The fries were cut thin with too much salt & were luke warm. The salad was an absolute joke. A plate of lettuce.. Nope, spinach & weed looking things. I'm sorry but that is NOT a salad. Neither of us touch them. The sever was nice but I feel like they needed more than two servers & a bartender on. I'll go back but for beer only. read more

My second time there and the food and beer is still awesome. My date and I both enjoy craft beers and they carry Samual Smith's chocolate stout (oatmeal too)..so good with the loafed nachos. We both had burgers and they were very good!! And service was amazing both times I've been there. One thing is it's too loud when a band is there (near front anyway). We had to talk very loudly the entire evening, haha. The guy playing was amazing though. Good stuff. Other than the loudness, it's highly recommended! read more

Great selection of beer and cool atmosphere with exposed brick and polished wood bar. The food has been usually been just ok, your typical pub fare. That is until i tried the Fried Green Tomato BLT - Blown. Away! I don't even know if it's still on the menu, but it should be. Usually I just like to go with friends for a few drinks, but that BLT is my new reason for a visit. read more

Awesome place. Great beer selection. Very typical warm irish pub decor without that dank claustrophobic feel. The bartenders KNOW THEIR BEER, and i work at a brewery. They had a high top for 4 empty with extra chairs at 2 adjoining tables. Asked the Manager and she said the policy is only 4 at a table for 4??? Blackthorn food was out of this world! Never been to Holly. Went to see what the Holly Sights Festival was all about. BlackThorn stuck out and recommended by everyone we asked where the best place was to eat. Awesome Irish Pub. Great Food, Great Service in a quaint town of friendly people. The Flatiron steak and the BlackThorn Burger just melted in your mouth. That Chef needs a raise! Great cookery! Hope to buy some BlackThorn glasses and hope they have some BlackThorn Shirts next time we come back. This was a great time. read more

Wow, outstanding menu. I really had a difficult time selecting something for lunch. I ended up getting a salad (at a pub, I know, crazy). I was pleasantly surprised. The spinach salad with grilled chicken was wonderful. The chicken was grilled perfectly moist on the inside and crisp on the outside. Other people in my party got the burgers and fires which were gobbled up and smelled wonderful. I understand they have specials and the turkey dinner is a big hit. All in all an impressive menu and friendly staff. read more

If you like beer and fantastic food, then you can't go wrong here. They don't have an extensive food menu, but I guarantee its all excellent and well thought out. Their beer menu IS extensive. With a rotating selection of awesome micro brews, and samples of anything that peaks your interest, you're sure to find the perfect pint. The atmosphere was not as intimate as we wanted, but we will likely return when in the area. This used to be a fantastic place for food, but the quality has greatly fallen off as of late. My boyfriend and I do not drink, so the extensive beer selection and bar are not really factors for us. We just came here to eat. Sadly I have to use the past tense. The last 3 times we were here there were notable issues with the food: my steak was so excessively peppered it was inedible, the special that day - pork snitzel (which in a previous visit was fantastic) was coated in salt and soggy on the bottom, the tuna was painfully overcooked to the point of being rubbery and smelled horribly, the once beloved ruben hushpuppies were pepper-filled and undercooked inside, and worst of all - the bread pudding went right to hell. I hope they recover and go back to being a great place to eat - but at their prices (which were fair when the food quality was good), we are hesitant to try it again to end up with a large bill for food that was frankly, disgusting. Makes me sad to write this. Ugh. read more

Went around 5:30 on a Friday. The dining area was only one third full but you could tell it would be noisy when full. Waitress was friendly but the kitchen was a little slow considering it wasn't busy yet. The place was nice and clean and has a nice look to it. Our stuffed mushrooms were great. We dipped them in their homemade ranch dressing. Awesome. I had the excellent Pub Burger, she had a super Reuben. We can't wait to go back. read more

Love this place!!! Not only do they have the best craft beer selection around but their food is amazing too!!! They constantly rotate their selection of beer and on occasion will have "Tap Takeovers" and feature a certain brand for the night. My boyfriend loves their burgers and fries and my favorite is the B&B salad (with their house croutons added)!! A must try in the area!! read more

If I could leave no stars, I would the manager is a freakin idiot serving wine and then coming back to the table and asking for license again, even after already serving her!! The manager Steve is a freakin idiot and never getting our business again, pissed all of us off and was really rude when doing it!!! The food was okay. The bartender/staff seemed very unprofessional. At one point, she was sitting on the bar fridge and sipping a beer. The bathrooms were not very clean and there was an odor coming from the kitchen area by the bathrooms. Very good beer selection though! read more
