I meaaaannnnn... can u really beat the OG?! Worth the drive, great BBQ, friendly staff, lots of parking in this quiet town. Great to bring visitors here too, always a nice stop.

Well I finally made it over to Black's. Just needed a brisket sando bump for the rider home. Easy to park, easy to get in for my order. It was a Saturday around 11am, thought it might be a bit busy, but not. Sat down to munch. Opened the bad and this little burger bun with a few slices of brisket presented it self. Ya, a bit disappointing. They have been around a long time so they must be doing something right. For me this was mid-level at best. You might argue this sandwich is in the H-E-B or Buc-ees league.

We were not sure what to expect since we were just driving through, but we saw several signs and decided to stop for lunch. My husband had heard of Blacks before. You go through the line and pick your sides and then you move over to the meat line. The only thing that I was not happy about was it was so smoky in the restaurant that we smelled like bbq smoker the rest of our day. The chopped beef was good and so was the cream corn. The meat plate was good but not a fan of the potato salad. It was a very family friendly place and the staff were all very welcoming. It is a self serve once you get into the dining room.

Tender, fall apart brisket with just the right amount of smoke. Sides are homey and delicious kinda like a place that's been doing it for nearly a 100 years. This is the real deal. Friendly staff, stay a while.

Best post oak smoked beef brisket and giant sized Flintstone plate ribs. Service is great because my name is on the mailing list for shipping beef to North Carolina. Ambiance is busy and vocal every time I call for delivery. I highly recommend!

Trying to decide what kind of BBQ to have in Texas is a tall order. Go modern, new, classic or traditional just not sure. Opted to try the original Black's. We got there early on a cloudy October morning st about 11AM. When you walk in, you're just sort of out right there in front of the sides without any kind of menu. Good thing we did some studying before hand and knew what we wanted to order. There were 4 of us so we didn't want to over order. We opted for a pint or cole slaw, a pint of mashed potatoes, sides of sweet potatoess, side of gravy and a side of creamed corn. They're really killing it on the sides. Each one was done so well and so flavorful. If they can do sides well than they can do meats so well. We did 1/2 lb of a turkey, 1/2lb chopped brisket, slice of brisket and a quarter chicken. Oh and a link sausage. The chopped brisket mixed with bbq sauce was so so good. We loved it. The slice of brisket was great but did not compare with the chopped. The turkey was probably the 2nd best thing. Very smoky and great flavor. Chicken was ok. The sauasage we would not order again. Too fatty, too salty and in some way too dry. Anyway, overall it was agraat experience and an amazing way to kickoff our bbq adventure. Black's is a good baseline for anyone trying to establish bbq basics in Texas.

Please don't disown me, but I'm not a big fan of barbecue. I'm just not. But, when you're in Texas, there are certain places you just have to try! The Original Black's Barbecue is one of those places! This was my first time here. When you first walk in the door, that delicious smoke smell hits your nose! It is expensive, just like every other barbecue place in Texas. I got a sliced brisket sandwich, chips, and a drink for $15. While the sandwich was very good, they use the small bun, so the sandwich wasn't very big. The interior is exactly what you would expect. I loved it! Next time you want some BBQ, head for Black's!

Delicious! Don't get this confused with Terry Black's. This is the OG and so much better. Everything is delicious. The bbq and sides - chef's kiss! Would definitely return!

I don't know too many people that drive down the highway munching from a container of sweet pickles. Do you? I love this first pick for me from the many yummy side items to choose from when you join the que at Black's BBQ. I haven't had a bad meal yet and I recommend stopping by for a plate of ribs, chicken or sausage. The staff are friendly and attentive and the atmosphere is all Texas with celebrities lining the walls. On your way out don't forget to buy a tshirt or a bottle of their signature bbq sauce. It's all good

Ordered beef brisket, giant beef rib, jalapeño cheddar sausage ring, and Mac & Cheese. The beef brisket was pretty dry and a bit salty. The giant beef rib was the best of the meal. It wasn't too dry or salty. The sausage ring didn't taste great. Service was fast and efficient.

Woohoo, what an experience it was to visit Black's original location. It was tremendous! You know it's gonna be a good barbecue joint when you walk in the place and it's like dining inside a good friend's barn out on their farm. It's that warm country welcome. The decor is like rustic honky-tonk meets meat. The folks that work here are hardworking, sweet, and really put their love into everything from the brisket to the cornbread. I had a chopped beef sandwich, mashed potatoes, and cobbler. The beef was so tender with the perfect hint of smoke. It's like the best backyard food you could ever imagine putting in your belly. We were there at lunch and I liked seeing all of the local workers coming in to eat. That speaks volumes about a local spot with a long history. I think the prices are extremely fair and reasonable. I mean come on, we're paying for edible works of art.

Kreuz Market is one of my favorite places among their stiff competition in Lockhart. It was in the mid very hot afternoon and not a lot of vehicles parked. Not sure how the pit masters take it but they gathered my meat order of Half Chicken, Beef Brisket, Spare Ribs, and Hot Jalapeño Cheese Sausage together. The crew were very nice and friendly and headed inside a sealed room where got a blasted of extremely cold air where you order your sides and drinks. There is plenty of tables in both rooms. I did not see outdoor seating but wont stop you eating in your vehicle like at Buc-ee's. It's truly mouthwatering where the brisket was thick and juicy, chicken roasted with a perfect wood smoked taste, jalapeño sausage addicting with flavor, and spare ribs stripped to the bone after a few wonderful bites. Even the sides were delicious. Tourist will defiantly love this place deep in he heart of Texas culture in BBQ.

The brisket was tough and cutting it so thick made it a challenge to chew. The pork chop was a bit tough as well and lacked smoke flavor. For the price you pay there are other BBQ places with more tender meat, more smoke flavor, and better flavor. The Mac and cheese was overcooked. The sauerkraut was too sweet and they did not offer us any bread. This is my last visit.

As we walked in at 10:30, there was no line. We asked for the simplest order. A single slice of brisket and a single slice of turkey. It was about $12 all in. As we sat down with one of the 4 pieces of butcher paper for 2 slices of meat, I noticed that there are no forks at Smitty's. Just knives. We got to work. The turkey was fantastic. Barbecue turkey is honestly an underrated concept and their turkey was juicy, soft, and would change any Thanksgiving meal to one for the history books. I was extremely disappointed in the slice of brisket though. It was extremely chewy like plastic. Decently seasoned but not tender at all. Probably a bit undercooked. It was worth visiting for the experience, especially to get a picture next to the fire pit, which one of the people on staff was nice enough to take for us. Located on the main square in Lockhart Texas, Barb's is one of 11 different BBQ places in the…read morevicinity. The competition is steep, and with TWO different Black's BBQ places in town, any restaurant daring to go into this culinary cuisine would be expected to fail. Out baseball team was celebrating yet another completely dominating victory and had worked up quite the appetite running around the bases and scoring. We have been to most of the other BBQ places and wanted something new. We got it. To the uninitiated, Lockhart, Texas is a patriarchal pantheon of smoke. For generations, the holy trinity of Texas barbecue has been guarded by historic, soot-stained institutions where the aesthetic is strictly brown, brick, and hyper-masculine. It was easy enough to find due to its unapologetically vibrant pink signage. This rare, woman-owned smokehouse is one of the best surprises I have experienced in Lockhart, which is a lot more than I can say for the speed traps in and out of the town. This isn't some vegetarian food despite the pastel colors, it delivers some of the most technically precise, high-caliber smoked meats in the Lone Star State. Put it this way - Stubbs and Valentinas were consistently 1 and 2 among my rankings. Other Texas venues like Goode BBQ, Salt Lick, and Pig Pen are all in the top 10. Barb's is a masterclass in pitmastery that earns a definitive five stars. The execution of the proteins reveals an exceptional understanding of fire management. (I missed out on the signature Lamb Chops, which ws so unique an offering I had hoped to try it! But you gotta get there early.) The chopped beef is a triumph, heavily punctuated by deeply caramelized, heavily seasoned "burnt ends" bark--a texture and depth of flavor that anyone raised on Texas BBQ will instantly understand and deeply appreciate. The pork belly and sausage are equally stellar; (I didn't see Pull Pork on the menu, but the Pork Belly was quite good too, offering a flavor that made me think of that cute rascal Porky Pig as I dined on it! The meats possess an impeccable structural integrity that collapses effortlessly upon the palate, yielding a clean, slightly tangy-sweet smoke profile that balances everything out. In fact, the meat was so tender, that I told my wife I could probably suck it through a straw. When we got home, I actually did, and yes, it falls apart so well you could actually do it. This is excellent to know - especially as I get older and older, I have to think about how to take good bbq down without having to chew it. Thanks to Barb's - A blender will not be needed! --But the true avant-garde moment of the meal belongs to the barbecue sauce. Moving far beyond the predictable, , Barb's serves a non-traditional, incredibly smooth, creamy sauce. This is something else. The first thing you notice is the golden color, not the deep red you often see - then the flavor. I detected sophisticated undercurrents of mustard balanced by the warm, aromatic notes of anise, cinnamon, and a whisper of vanilla. While the exact formulat remains a secret of the kitchen, the result is an incredibly balanced, mouth-watering eruption of complimentary flavors that do not overpower the meat but bring out the best in it. Speaking of food you won't have to chew, the chocolate pudding is special as well. I have one culinary observation - You get a choice of strawberries or a cookie crumble (I am fairly certain it was an oatmeal cookie crumble). Here is where even this can be tweaked a bit. I think chocolate is one of those Alpha flavors. It needs a supporting taste, not another rAlpha. Both the Strawberries (which I didn't have) and the cookie crumble (which I did have) tried to overpower the chocolate. My tastebuds were dancing around my mouth trying to figure out what they liked more. Even then, taking pudding and doing nothing with it makes it, well, pudding. Even the word 'pudding' is bland. I admire the efforts to dress up pudding into something more than it is, bit with chocolate, it might be better with a vanilla sugar-cookie crumble with caramel mocha drizzled over the top. You won't spend anywhere NEAR what it is worth here. If you are like my in-laws fro Arkansas, you can bring your basic nuclear family, all 19 of them and their two hunting' dogs and pet bob-cat, eat all you can handle, and not lose the mobile home in the process. The thing I always say is that great service will always get me to come back. The Sunday crew was OUTSTANDING and I cannot say enough for how well they knew the menu and the pride they take in working there. The restaurant has a walk up service and a few dozen tables, and on a fall Sunday with your victorious, mud-stomping, winning baseball teammates - there's nothing that taste better than the sweet taste of victory and a great bbq place in the town square!

I ordered: 1/2 pound of brisket and two pork ribs and small peach cobbler. There is nothing about the drive thru menu that didn't look like a regular menu...everything was available from the meats to the sides. The brisket was good in terms of flavor but wasn't as juicy or tender as I've had despite ordering the juicy/fatty option. The pork ribs were on point, very tender and falling off the bone. The sauce was not to my liking, which wasn't sweet or sour just tomato-y and otherwise blah, again not my favorite. Overall, the drive thru was awesome like any other drive thru and these guys do it well. The meats were wrapped in such a way so that if you had a long drive to home/hotel they would keep. The BBQ was good but considering this location is a stones throw for the Original Terry Black's...I feel there is room for improvement.
