Reflecting back on my involuntary experience of being the receiving end of a rear-end collision on the freeway, California Collision was the clear stand out. Not only did they get my BMW back on the road like it never happened, they handled it like a concierge would. Take that from a regular business traveler that works in the private equity world. George and Team handled everything in my best interests. They are an honest to goodness family business; the real deal- they all share the same last name. The first thing George did during the drop-off process was insist on giving me a walk-thru tour of the *entire* shop and work area. Other shops hesitate and deflect with these requests but George volunteers it first thing without even being asked. After using the restroom on the way out, there was not a corner I didn't see. Communication and customer service is first class- my calls, messages, and emails were always returned in a timely manner. They dealt with insurance and the car rental. I didn't have to do anything besides provide approvals. The job was done exactly how I wanted and even exceeded expectations. My BMW is older now and I expected aftermarket parts but I ended up coming out with all OEM parts at 0 expense to me. Even my optional factory/ OEM+ M-division performance parts were handled. Three stars is feedback for front desk and hope they will improve. All was fine until final payment and a twist ending. So beware there is a 2.99% charge if you use your credit card, which is fine; they tell you and there are signs. But then my insurance company paid the shop directly so I'm due a refund. When you typically get a refund you get a refund for the ENTIRE amount charged on your card, right? Nope, they don't pay you the fees and THEN they took out refund for the deductible, so I was down about $500 ($250 deductible). I argued this was not a full refund then, but then front desk Michelle kept saying "I have signs all over. Can't do anything but cut you a check". Okay...then I guess she wanted to make me feel better by saying I'm going to get my deductible back, which I said "that is misleading because you as the body shop have no control over that; that is based on the assumption that the insurance company CAN collect". So she had no basis to insist I was going to get my deductible back. Customer service needs to be improved and stop misleading customers with statements promising return of your deductible. I gave the feedback that she should warn customers more clearly about the lack of refund for fees and also not use the assumption of a return of deductible when the body shop has no control. In this day and age businesses are successful by word of mouth. Unfortunately I would have recommended this shop to my friends until this happened and I will instead be telling them to steer away.
