we paid over $4000 for a chimney Insert it was installed in the rain, causing stains on our shingles and then found later that they had reinstalled the fireplace doors incorrectly. The doors worked perfectly for 20 years before they pulled them out and put them back incorrectly. Now they're offering to come back, but we have to stay home all day to accommodate their schedule for them to come back and correct their obvious mistake. read more

This is a dishonest company! I called Blackburns after we had our chimney cap fly off from the wind. They came out to do a cleaning that included putting the cap back on (which they didn't do because it was too cold), and showed me several pictures they took up my chimney and explained there was irreparable damage and they quoted me $4,000+ to replace the entire inside of the chimney. We promptly called our builder (we JUST built this house and moved in less than two years ago) and he had his guy come out. (Justin Koklich from Kleen Sweep 740-587-3980) First - Justin said he couldn't adequately inspect our chimney because Blackburn didn't actually clean it. So, Justin cleaned it completely. Second - After Justin cleaned it, he said there was NOTHING wrong with our chimney and it most certainly didn't need replaced. He climbed up on our roof to replace our cap (Blackburn refused to do this when they came out because it was too cold, and it was WAY colder when Justin came out than when Blackburn came out!) Third - Justin charged us $100 LESS than Blackburn does for a regular cleaning. Justin said he has had several customers who have had similar experiences with Blackburn, doing a lousy job cleaning, then trying to convince you to spend more to do unnecessary work. read more

I wanted to send a special thank you to Corey & his helper on 9/2/21 for the excellent work & professional work they both did. Core found a problem that goes back to 1974 with the water heater being vented into the wall instead of chimney. It's a long story but let's say in 1974 our gas was cut off due to improper venting of the water heater. It had been inspected. However the person who said they fixed it & once again the inspector approved it. Needless to say they lied. Blackburn's need to hire many people like Corey & his helper who are honest & provide the best Customer service possible because they care. Extremely satisfied with the work completed by Blackburn. True professionals from the first email exchange with them. They arrived promptly at the time promised by their office. Upon arrival our technician (Jamie) was very informative and explained their entire process in detail. Sheets were put down to keep our flooring clean. Regular progress updates were provided to me along with pictures from inside and outside the chimney detailing the job. We were in need of a chimney cover but I forgot to mention that when I scheduled my original service call. Fortunately they had one on the truck to fit our chimney and installed it that same day. The finished product looks great inside and out. I would not hesitate recommending these guys to anyone. Clean, professional, and HONEST...which seems rare in a service company operating in 2015. Full inspection, cleaning, and cap installation came to $397 which is very reasonable in my mind. Job well done Blackburn! read more

We contacted several companies for estimates on capping our chimney after we had raccoons find their way to our cast iron stove. Blackburns was not the cheapest or the most expensive their price was reasonable. Their staff seemed to be very knowledgeable understood our needs. Scheduling was easy. And in a few days Ralph came out and provided an estimate. After we accepted it a few days later Ralph returned to do the necessary repairs. Ralph arrived with in the scheduled window; called when he was on his way. His work was excellent. I am extremely pleased with the service and work from Blackburn. I called to have our wood burning fireplace inspected before we used it as we had just moved in to the house. They came out and were very quick and professional but it cost us 236.45 to have them clean and inspect the flue but they did not check or clean the ash dump area or even go to the basement to check the hearth or ash dump door. During the inspection we learned it was not safe to use. Later I talked to a neighbor that has his cleaned and inspected for 120.00 from another reputable company. I guess I should check prices more closely next time, unless you have money to burn? read more

I have to also say that this company is dishonest. My chimney has a water leak. In 2007 Blackburn came out cleaned the chimney and replaced the cap. Which blew off in the next wind storm. But they came out and put it back. Which was fine. This time chimney has a water leak. I called and requested an est. They said it would be 219 dollars. I explained that i closed off the chimney years ago and I just wanted an est on repairs. New cap or whatever was causing the issue. No cleaning or 3 point chimney inspection, as they called it. Just go up look at the chimney, see what repairs and parts would be required. Then give an estimate etc... The lady said the best they could do was 189. Thats ashamed, I'm a repeat customer. They seem to be just cash hungry. It's sad they wanted 200 bucks to do work that was not need to provide an estimate on work that needed to be done. Very disappointed they refuse to come out and provide an estimate. read more

Blackburn Chimney provided an excellent service. The staff were very helpful in describing their services, pricing, and in scheduling an appointment. We had a level 2 inspection of two fireplaces in our home, which happened to be on an extremely cold day. The technicians, Ralph and Levi were very knowledgeable and professional. They went over pricing with me before beginning the work, and explained what they were going to do. Afterwards, Ralph went over the results of the inspection and clearly explained what they had found, pointing out important safety considerations at the same time. The results and pictures taken were also sent to me in an email. Ralph also provided a variety of different options and estimates based on our needs and made recommendations based on safety. Showed up late without apology to do chimney repair work and walked thru my house on a rainy January day without removing or covering boots. They did 1 hour of repair work on my chimney and handed me a bill with $700.00 in labor charges for this 1hour of work. This did not include the additional charge for materials. Blackburn came at my request to inspect the chimney chase cover. They were quick to say I definitely needed a new cover, collect over $450 and then not be accessible for three months. Only after I said I would write a negative review did they show up with the new chase cover. I made them leave the old cover, which after having another chimney company inspect - was told I did not really need the new cover. Nice scam Blackburn. Folks with older homes watch out for this well played out scam. I still have the old chase cover to prove it was intact. Blackburn refused any adjustment for the months of having to hunt them down and really not needing a cover at all. Never again Blackburn. read more

Absolutely misdiagnosed my chimney issue! I purchased a used house that had heavy ash smell, more intense whenever it rained. I read the reviews online and chose to pay Blackburns their higher price to clean and inspect my chimney expecting high quality service in return. They "cleaned" the chimney apperently without even opening the cleanout door which had over 100lbs of damp, moldy ash as found by the contractor I hired for a second opinion. He also found a 5ft vertical crack that was the cause of the moisture getting into the chimney that Blackburns completely missed. I took/sent pictures and contacted Blackburns only to be given an apology and "we don't service clean out areas because of EPA ash disposal laws". After this ordeal I have learned a considerable amount about chimneys and they are a relatively simple structure. That said, I am highly dissatisfied with the "experts" lack of skill in their trade having put my family in danger because I beleived their decieving company motto of "Protecting You and Your Family". read more
