We didn't realize the chimney had a large internal crack and would require a full replacement and relining. Chelsea's Chimney was fantastic from start to finish. The owner personally came out, inspected everything, and took the time to explain what was going on and reassure me that it could be fixed safely. That personal attention meant a lot during a pretty scary situation. After paying the deposit, they moved quickly, within a week we had an entirely new chimney system installed along with a new cap. The work included removing the old flue tiles and throat damper, installing a UL-listed stainless steel liner with a lifetime warranty, insulating the flue, parging the smoke chamber, and installing a new top tile and top-closing damper system. Everything was clearly explained as they worked, which I really appreciated. The total cost was $5,400, which felt very fair for the amount of work, quality, and peace of mind we received. The craftsmanship looks great, and we now feel confident using our fireplace safely. The problem is not our pilot or gas, it's the solenoid gas valve part that Chimney.com installed. (A master plumber has identified the issue 100%, but doesn't do gas repairs.) Since the whole device is controlled by remote, we know we did not break it--we never touched it ever, but the like-new fireplace did not come on this year. We were charged full price for the unit, which should have lasted for many years. Now Chimney.com is now wanting another $300 just two years later to repair. Paid a lot for a new unit. Chimney.com they says they are not responsible for quality of their products and will charge for labour to "evaluate" the issue. They act very folksy/ocal--until there's a problem, then they cut you loose. Be forewarned that you need to be lucky because they don't stand by their products sold. This feels scammy.

On top of that, I was asked to sign paperwork on a laptop without being given a proper chance to review it, which I regret. Prior owners never had chimney cleaned or inspected. Met with Vince and upon inspection of chimney and the thimble connection access that was blocked off by cinder block wall recommend a demo of the wall and a stainless steel liner, and was given a quote. Got a couple more quotes in the spring and went with ChimneyTEK because of the inspection QUALITY and pricing of the quote. The demo work needed on the thimble connection threw off all quotes and given estimates from others that were pricey (sub out demo work) or poorly estimated (unnecessary add ins not needed). I called Vince SEVERAL times to discuss and go over the quote/work (not familiar with work involved and wanted to understand the what and why) each time Vince answered my questions and definitely had a better handle on the job (no subs) had experience on my thimble issue. Crew did a GREAT job, the demo work went better than I imagined. The stainless steel liner was really needed based upon seeing how blocked the thimble was 60-65% and all the soot removed from the chimney prior to installing the liner. This job was a learning experience for me and the job went a lot smoother than I anticipated (did not know what to expect). Proof of insurance also provided before job started. GREAT JOB! It started off with 2 reminder calls earlier in the week letting me…read moreknow the technicians would be arriving at 8;00am and that I would receive a call at 7:30 (1/2 hour before arrival). So I woke up early, and no call at 7:30. Am hour later I end up calling them to see what's going on and they didn't seem to know, but reached out to the tech who ended up calling me and telling me they were about 45 min away. The office is only 45 min from my house, so don't know what's up with that. Next the 2 techs showed up and cleaned 1 chimney and we're here about 1.5 hours. Then they told me they were deeming my chimney unfit for use and gave me an estimate for a new liner at 7k. the sighted several issues. The first the there was to much creosote, and looking at the pictures i remember thinking , if they had worked a little longer they could have done a better job. Then they said my fire box needed to be re-shaped or it would cause smoke to come into my house. All the years i've lived here, i've had raging fires all winter long and not once had smoke coming into my house. The tech also noticed where i repaired some of the mortar in the fireplace and said 'whoever did that used the wrong mortar and it would have to be re-done'. Little did he know I did and used fireplace morter that i purchased at a fireplace/chimney store (still have the can it came in) In conclusion it felt like I was at a car dealership and these guys work on commission. I only used them because the regular chimney service I use every year to clean my chimney was unavailable this week and I needed it done because i'm going out of state for awile. I will not be using Chimneytek's service ever again.
