Visited the Inn for an event that included dinner. I can say that spaghetti with meat sauce is my absolute favorite but I am a sauce snob. I often bring my own sauce to other places. I absolutely loved their sauce. The owners are so knowledgeable about the history of their home and take pride in keeping it original. You could tell by how excited they were to share the story. Beautiful, historical inn! The staff is so friendly and welcoming! I got the nicest tour upon arrival from Susan! The Carriage House suite was very cozy. The bed was comfortable and huge. AC worked perfectly as it was an 80 degree day. There is s a great little fridge and a Keurig. Breakfast was so yummy! A wonderful frittata with an amazing yogurt parfait! There were also fresh baked muffins and banana bread along with an assortment of juices and freshly brewed coffee. Susan was very attentive and gave us more background on the history of the building. She was great! My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay and hope to go back for a longer visit! read more

All of the staff at Black Swan Inn are welcoming and it's a better experience than we imagined.. Tricia was attentive to my husband's food allergy, people were truly happy to be there helping and making everyone comfortable. If you love old Victorian houses, then this is the place to stay! The proprietors are extremely warm and friendly. We encountered a small snafu but it was handled quickly and efficiently. The breakfast in the morning are delicious homemade meals. Everything comes to you hot. The room we stayed in ( Robert Allen) was very clean and cozy. They provide robes which feel amazing. Well, where do I start? My boyfriend and I had planned a romantic weekend away. We've both passed by the Black Swan Inn many times over the years and were excited about trying this place out. We arrived on time, and there was no one to greet us or inform us how to check in. There is no front desk and that's fine, but there were not any instructions on how we can check in. The owners texted us before our arrival and we let them know that we would be arriving right on time...3pm. We arrived, but there was a tea party scheduled in the dining room so there was different staff taking care of that. When we asked one of those folks about our reservation and how to check in, they were clueless. We were getting a little impatient since no one knew what to do. Finally, a woman who was working the tea party gave us our room key and informed us it was on the next floor up. That was fine, but it was difficult to see any of the names of the rooms on the brass plaques on each door as it was below waist height and the hallways and rooms are so dimly lit, we had to use the flashlight on our phones to read the room names. We got into our room and noticed that the door does not lock from the outside. It leads into a hallway where there is the bathroom and then another door to the right which did lock and lead into the bedroom. We felt uneasy about our belongings in the bathroom when we were out during the day, due to the fact that anyone can just open that door and decide to use our bathroom. My boyfriend went back down to the car to bring in our bags and there was a knock at the door. I answered and it was Trish, one of the owners. The first thing she said to me was that she was informed by someone running the tea party that we seemed like we were freaking out because of the confusion we experienced when we arrived. I told her we were not freaking out, we just needed to know how to check in and get to our room. She was friendly, but instead of telling me that she was under the impression that we were freaking out, she should have apologized for not being ready for our arrival. She had received confirmation from us that we would be on time, so she dropped the ball from the get-go. She offered to bring up a duraflame log for us since we had a working fireplace in our room. I gladly accepted that. Once in the room, we tried working the lights. They are sconces on the walls that have a separate switch to turn them on when the power from the light switch on the wall is on. There were no lights in the two coat closets in our room. There was popcorn on the floor in front of the loveseat that was in our room and the fireplace had not been cleaned out, so there was also fire ash on the floor in front of the fireplace, outside of the protective screen. There were a couple of empty plastic wrappers in the top drawer of the dresser. The bathroom has a nice looking soaking tub, but it's just there for show. No water source to it and no drain hooked up. We were in the honeymoon suite...it would have been romantic to soak in that big tub but no romance there. That bathroom was old and needed repair. There was a hole in the wall where the toilet was attached. The seat cover to the toilet leaned back too far when it was opened as there was no tank. The water source came from somewhere beyond the tiled wall. The grout on the floor in the bathroom was stained and dirty looking. The stall shower needed updating and cleaning. The tile floor in the shower stall was mildew-stained and there was stained caulking around the bottom where the tile met the floor pan. The showerhead was old and barely moved to accommodate my boyfriend's height. There is no working light above the mirror in the bathroom and my boyfriend had to use the flashlight on his cellphone to avoid slicing his neck while shaving. The switch for the exhaust fan was too high for me to reach. This bathroom is just above the outdoor screened patio on the floor below us and I was greeted with the stench of cigarette smoke several times. On their website, under "Policies" it states "no smoking". Why is the porch a designated smoking area??? It should be across the parking lot, at least 50 feet away from the building. So, that means to me that this is NOT a no-smoking facility! There was no information on our very small TV about what channels are available or how to work the TV. We turned it on and there was "no signal"...someone had switched the HDMI cable on the back of the TV to the wrong port. Any other guest may not have known to look at it and plug it into the correct port...there was no way to change the input on the universal remote, either. There was only one nightstand in this room and it was an inconvenience for us since there should be two so that both guests can place whatever they normally need them for, such as charging a cell phone or having a bottle of water. So bad. Ran out of room here....don't waste your money at this terrible inn. read more

Waiting on a refund from March 2nd. Booked through Expedia, received notification that the Inn would refund me, still have yet to receive it. Hotel booked on 3/1, canceled 3/2. Going on trip with another person who told me just to book anything then tells me the hotel was too far away of where we were going to that night so that was reason for cancellation. Purchased hotel insurance because trip was 9/1 so who knows what could happen that far ahead. Had to dispute the charge with my credit card. I'm sure the Inn is lovely, it sounded like it from the reviews but the customer service could be better. Even had a cancellation policy up until August for refund so I thought it would be no problem, I don't usually cancel things like this. read more

Don't even consider it. I'm 77 and this is by far the worst place we have ever stayed. We requested a Handicapped room so they put us in the old horse barn. Wasn't really HP because door widths were not to code, thresholds from entrance to room's, furniture was either 1800's but not maintained, windows were not even washed. I could go on but you have been warned. read more

Beautiful little inn with namesake swans everywhere. Hubby and I loved the stay and the highlight was breakfast. Tricia made everything fresh to order including a lovely blueberry crumble cake that just melts in your mouth. Our little dog Islay enjoyed it as much as we did and was able to relax on the beautiful carpets. There is a little trail near the stream for the dogs and wide open space, parks and hiking all around. Wonderful places to go in town for food too like casamigos Mexican and the common man for donuts and coffee. Thoroughly enjoyed the stay with wonderful hosts and hope to visit again! read more

Stayed there on a 2 days trip to Tilton. The place is quite comfortable. The antiques , furniture and detailed work makes it a work from history. The owner- Cheryl is very helpful. Since we were new to the place, she helped us with maps, directions and gave us a lot of information. The staff is friendly as well. Would recommend this B&B ! read more

This was the cheapest place available when I was looking for a room while we were passing through on our way to Maine. We had a late check-in (got there a little after midnight) and they were very accommodating. The woman I spoke to on the phone gave me all the details I would need in order to check into my room properly and when I got there, everything was just as she said and it was completely painless. The room was nice and clean, as was the shared bathroom across the hall. Breakfast in the morning was good and Lydia was very nice. I would definitely stay here again. read more

Beautiful little B&B, complimentary wifi, plush beds and welcoming hosts. They've taken this place over two years ago and are turning it around. It's furnished with antique furniture, the beds are plush and comfy and the breakfast is delicious ! Bathrooms could use a little update (shower not really in the same style as the rest), but are very clean. Tv is very small too, but you don't come to place like this to watch television... The room was nice and large, lots of light, wooden floors. Compared to what you can find around here this is a great place to stay, no question, except if you "need" a gym, a swimming pool, 24h room service etc... Then go to a big hotel chain. For the rest of us, this is much much nicer ! read more

FABULOUS! We cannot say enough. I'm even hesitatant to post this because I'm worried it wont be available when we want to return :) Kidding.. sort of! It was just amazing. The Inn owners are just peaches, and the place is gorgeous. Breathtaking.. and they let us bring our black lab who just loved sitting by the fire, and a walk out back by the river. The food was delicious and the room was just divine. My family of four was welcomed with open arms. Every little nook has some little precious surprise... little desserts and drinks in the game room, grand piano if you feel like music, a library, a fabulously homey and unique dining room, and more. Finally the Black Swan is back!!! New linens, king size beds and attention to details in the rooms. Our group had very nice rooms that were warm and inviting on a snowy winter's day. We truly felt relaxed and welcome. Breakfast was wonderful. Fresh hot scones and with reeeeeealy good coffee was a nice prelude to roasted red pepper frittatas, breads and ham. Well done!!! Honestly, the Black Swan was $5 more per room than a big "name brand" hotel up the road that serves tepid powered eggs for breakfast. Ya gotta try the swan! Best deal in town!!! Stayed for two nights at the Black Swan in August. Trish and John are gracious and accommodating hosts with excellent local suggestions. The breakfasts are a combination of delicious home cooking and fresh local pastries. The Inn itself is beautiful, has an interesting history, and is centrally located within easy access to shopping, dining, hiking, swimming, and more. What a great place! This past weekend, my mother, sister, grandmother and I all met for a fun weekend in Tilton to go shopping at the outlets and spend some time together. The owner of the Black Swan Inn, Trisha, went above and beyond to make our stay perfect. She set us up on the top floor of the inn where we had two perfectly clean rooms and our private bathroom. Plenty of towels and nice AC too. In the morning, one of the ladies named Brittany fixed us a delicious breakfast of quiche, bacon, and French toast. We ate in a nice large dining room, with coffee, juice, and donuts and fresh fruit. Very hospitable, easy to get to from 93. We look forward to going back next year already! read more

Great place to stay! It's a huge Victorian featuring the most exquisite woodwork. The wood looks like it was varnished yesterday. The breakfast was superior and not at all the usual bed and breakfast fare. Also the breakfast menu changed each day so you didn't get tired of the same breakfast. The owners are lovely, pleasant, and interesting to talk to, but they don't spend all their time chatting with guests. The rooms were roomy and clean. If you happen to go during a Murder Mystery Weekend you'll have double the fun. Definitely worth a visit to this cozy inn and interesting house. read more
