Quite Charming inside and out. *Historic Building with rich Town history. *Featured on TAPS and Haunted History. We had no experience outside the ordinary. *It is an old building that has been rebuilt at 3 different times in history and to varying extent. *Stayed over 6/17-18/25 Room was a Queen room. Floors sloped, but expected given the age. The building is on one thermostat. We're from Florida and the room was uncomfortably warm. Window facing brick building next door so opening the window didn't allow for a breeze. There were 2 glasses on dresser but there was no ability to get water or ice. There is also no coffee in the Hotel. You would need to wait for restaurant to open at 11:00am. This made the stay uncomfortable and is the reason I can't give more 's. *Area for improvement would be to have limited refreshment access to Hotel guests and refresh the air quality as it was musty. *Onions restaurant has a nicely executed Menu. Which was 4/5's! Clams sweet and cooked perfectly but not all of the shells were open upon serving (which is a no-no). Haddock Salad had beautiful color and fresh julienned vegetables on hand and fish was crispy and not overcooked. *Tavern opposite of the Restaurant and has local Brew on Tap. 7 Taps and each really good! Beer lines tasted clean and temp was good. Beer tasted crisp and delicious. 5/5's. Parking very limited. Satellite lot approximately 2 blocks down on same side of street. read more

The inn itself is charming and the room was clean and comfortable--huge shoutout to the housekeeping staff who clearly take pride in their work. However, my overall experience was completely soured by the unbelievably unprofessional front desk service. Check-in was a disaster. The man at the front desk spent more time on the phone with (what sounded like) his wife, making odd and presumptive comments about me--while I was standing right there. It took over 30 minutes just to get my room key. Unfortunately, check-out was no better--another 30 minutes wasted on what should've been a simple process. To make matters worse, I was asked to write down my credit card number on a piece of paper because their system was down. Absolutely not. That is a huge security concern and incredibly inappropriate!! For the price I paid for a two-night stay, this experience was unacceptable. Hospitality 101: treat your guests with professionalism and respect. Sadly, this inn failed miserably on that front. I left feeling frustrated and disappointed, and I will not be returning. I have never stayed at such a cozy establishment before! It was a new experience and we enjoyed it for the evening. There is no front desk per say. There is an office with a laid back guy who hands out keys and walks you to your room informing you about the keys and locks. We stayed in the Edison room. We loved the Sinbad pattern comforter! Brought us back to the early 90's and made us chuckle (a few times.) At first look it's just a bed but then there is a library nook! I loved this touch. Unfortunately I wasn't able to utilize the area due to our schedule. Even for a small inn we were able to adjust the air on the 90 degree day. Small bathroom but fit our needs. Thanks to the Inn it supplied my boyfriend a place to re-coop after a difficult hike. A night in the inn and he was a new man! The front porch had a great view of local fireworks and all the folks on the porch were extremely friendly! Basically across the street there is a babbling brook which we did visit and I certainly put my feet in. Very cute area for families and play live music on Sunday nights. Areas for improvement: Our room needed a paint job because there looked to be some touch up on the ceiling and top wall which needed attention. I would also say the front steps clearly could offer someone some splinters! This is not a fancy hotel chain by any means. This is a small Inn with personality is a small town that shuts down early... BUT you can get your car washed at 11pm! read more

Clean, comfortable, cozy with the bonus of a great pub downstairs! We stayed in the Edison Room - it was like staying at home. I loved how the room was furnished and I really enjoyed the book nook. I absolutely loved the soft, satiny sheets! And the nice, heavy comforter was so pleasing! Nice bathroom with very nice, plush towels. However, the hot water was very lacking, which is very disappointing. When turned to the hottest setting, one, it wasn't really that hot, and two, there was barely any water pressure. Also, a hair dryer would be an amazing addition. I'm not fond of going outside in the NH winter with cold, wet hair. The continental breakfast the next morning was simple, yet well done. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate accompanied by some yogurts, a bowl of oranges, some cereal and milk, and oatmeal. My favorites were the bakery-sized muffins and the bread for toasting - the marble rye was delicious! I would appreciate some honey for the tea. Would I stay here again? You bet!! But please, fix the hot water in the shower. read more

The Tilton Inn is an absolute gem! We were drawn to its unique charm and character as we passed by so we decided to stop in for a bite to eat. We received a very warm welcome and immediately felt at home. The menu was diverse and had an excellent selection of beers on tap (huge bonus points!) The wait staff was super attentive and were very helpful in making accommodations for my picky kids. The food came out fresh out of the oven and was delicious! My kids loved their meals too which was a big win for us. All in all it was an excellent experience and we will definitely put this on our list of places to visit again! read more

This review is based on dinner. I went here last night for dinner since I had a gift certificate. The Olive Branch Tavern is located inside the 1875 Inn in the center of Tilton. Some say this place is haunted by a ghost named Laura, who perished in a fire in the late 1800s at the original inn. This inn sat vacant for many years until it was refurbished and restored in 2001. Some guests have reported ghost sightings. The Olive Branch Tavern is chef owned and operated, which is open for lunch and dinner serving American fare as well as some Italian dishes. The atmosphere inside is pretty laid back and casual. The interior is very classic with wood floors and walls with pictures, dim lighting. The tavern area is in the back with a big HDTV and the dining rooms are in the front with big windows of natural lighting coming in. The main dining room has the original fieldstone fireplace. I arrived here around 5PM and I could sit anywhere I'd like, so I sat in the dining room near the window. Each table in the dining room had linen napkins with silverware and lit candlelight. I perused the menu offers such items as sandwiches, salads, soups, chicken, steak, seafood, and pasta dishes. Specials are offered too. The prices are moderate, most entrees in the $10-$20 range. Wine list is in the menu. I started off with a cup of Clam Chowder ($3.25), which was thick and had a rich flavor with lots of minced clams with potato chunks. My dinner entrée included hot crusty rolls and a garden salad served in a wooden bowl, which were decent. For dinner, I had the Pastry Baked Chicken ($14.95) which was a good portion served with warm cranberries, chunky red skin mashed potatoes, and sautéed green beans with onions. The boneless chicken inside the puff pastry shell was very juicy stuffed with a tasty stuffing, excellent dish. The warm cranberry orange glaze was very good for dipping. The mashed potatoes were a bit dry, but good. The vegetables were fresh and crispy. For dessert, they had apple pie, lemon meringue pie, and brownie sundaes. I had the latter ($5.95) with a Diet Coke ($2.50) which was a chocolate brownie (not warmed) topped with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup drizzle, strawberries, and whipped cream. The bill came out to around $26 before tax and tip. Overall, the meal was very good and relaxing. The waitress left me alone to enjoy my meal and a few other parties began arriving as I was eating my dinner. Chose this quaint inn while visiting family in the area. Requested an early check in which we were promptly given. Alan gave us an upgraded room at no extra charge. He even extended a tour to us, showcasing the latest improvements in adjoining rooms. We enjoyed cocktails on the front porch in the afternoon, and dinner there also from Onions Pub. The food was delicious, as we both ordered the scallop dinner. Social distancing protocol was respected. We have stayed here many times and it never disappoints. If you want a quintessential New England inn experience, I highly recommend this inn which is a short jaunt to the lakes region. read more

Haunted? Haunted with awesomeness! In typical Andy-fashion, I book a room at The Tilton Inn 100% unaware of the date in which I was to stay. Oh, Friday the 13th... In October... in a supposed hotel of apparitions? Gotcha. Unplanned, and enjoyable indeed. I was on a tour of New England of my own making, with only one-day's notice to each stop. I found The Tilton Inn because frankly, I don't want to spend my dollars on some hotel chain with possible questionable reviews, and you'll always be asking yourself "Did the prostitute clean up before he/she/it left?" That's not to say that prostitutes haven't partook in The Tilton Inn at some point in it's storied history, but not on these sheets. Not tonight! Those sheets. I'm gonna skip waaaaaaay ahead and tell you about the sheets. The sheets and pillows are worth the trip alone folks. Whatever new-fangled crap you are sleeping on is for a commoner compared to these threads. The sheets are extremely soft, the pillows are substantial if that means anything to you. I didn't care until this trip. The Tilton Inn is why, Back to the hotel itself. I couldn't care any less that this place is supposedly home to various apparitions that were researched by people on television. I'm sure there are people that are reading this that DO care, but I don't (and didn't). It played no part in my decision to stay here. The fact that it's locally owned and operated, and it's within a stone's throw from Meredith, Laconia (a cold, trashy shiver sent down my spine), and the highway in which we were trekking on. This place has character, squeaks, ripples, and stories, but it was just-plain-awesome. Excellent service, with a decent restaurant/beer underneath, and some great people are why I'll be coming back. If you get a moment, take a walk on the island across the street and say hello to the chipmunks. They're great, and will provide minutes of entertainment along with relaxation with the cold water running on both sides of you. Sure, some guy named Edison stayed at this hotel... Excellent New England Inn where every room is unique. Have stayed there many times and both Kathy and Allan the Inn Keepers and their entire staff make it so sad to go but so easy to return. They have been so kind to my little Boston Terrier Anna and have watched her grow from a little puppy into a juvenile now. Went ghost-hunting for 2 nights in the Mary Baker Eddy room (really, two rooms attached), and while we didn't experience the ghost of little Laura, we had a wonderful stay. As other guests have said, the staff is excellent, the a.c. works great, the beds are comfortable, even the day bed in the second room, and the food is delicious. Never had better scallops wrapped in bacon! It was nice chatting with other guests on the shared second floor balcony, too! Would like to return sometime in cooler weather to take advantage of the lovely gas fireplaces in both rooms. read more

I had such a wonderful stay at the Tilton Inn recently with a group of my paranormal enthusiast friends. I stayed in the Henry Ford room -- beautifully decorated, cozy with the fire going, and spacious (with the exception of the bathroom, which was a bit cramped). Food was decent down in Onions Restaurant -- I ordered the shrimp pasta special and it was good. The bartender was super friendly and provided great service as well. No sign of Laura, but we left a bracelet for her with her name on it. All of the rooms were lovely, and I'll definitely be back. Thank you to the owner for a lovely stay! read more

We only stayed one night but if we could of stayed longer we would of. This was such a nice B&B. We stayed in the Edison Room - it was really quaint, I loved how the room was furnished and corner had chairs and a wonderful selection of books. I wish I had time to sit and go thru some of them. The owners were super nice and really went out of the way to make sure that we had everything we needed. The pub was great, good beer and food. This is a must stay if you are in town. Skip the fancy hotels and stay in a cozy place like this that makes you feel at home. read more

While the staff was very friendly, and the rooms were nicely decorated, the walls were ridiculously thin and you could hear everything. Since there is a bar on the first floor, all we could hear was loud people until 2am. Not the greatest neighborhood either. All in all, clean and reasonable price, but not my first choice. read more

I am giving 5 stars just for the bed alone. In this inn, you will find the MOST comfortable, dreamy beds with the softest sheets EVER. Plus, the owner is a lovely man, the rooms are spacious and clean and decorated in colonial fashion (did not encounter any ghosts). Extremely charming room. Very friendly proprietor. I loved this place. My one complaint is that when I returned to my room at night (in August), I found no way to turn down the central air conditioning. There were no controls anywhere as far as I could see. So, the room was uncomfortably cold. Yes, I'd ask a staff person... but how are you going to find one late at night when everything's closed down? If not for that detail, I'd give the Tilton Inn five stars. read more

We stayed at the Tilton Inn on 1/28 while venturing to the Lincoln Ice Castles. Can't say enough nice things about the Tilton Inn. From the moment we arrived we were welcomed. We sat in the Onion Pub bar while waiting for our group to gather, then decided to have lunch there. Food was amazing (Bermuda Onion Soup, Shrimp Linguine, Salad) and the service was fantastic! I went to check-in our rooms with "Onion" who was a hoot. He actually came to sit at our table and tell us about the Inn and the rooms we had booked. Then he took us upstairs and showed us all the rooms (doors to every room were wide open so we could see how cute they were - of course once guests arrived, they closed). The place is so charming! Not a cookie-cutter place at all. Each room has its own unique look, furniture and bedding...AND...each room had a small electric fireplace which was a nice bonus! After our venture to the Ice Castles (over-rated, sorry), we wound up back at the Inn and decided to have dinner there (Shepherds Pie, Teriyaki Sirloin Tips, Parmesan Crusted Chicken). Again, fantastic good and outstanding service. It was a busy night but we got all the attention we needed. Once again "Onion" came to visit with us, asking about our day and telling us a bit more history on the Inn. On Sunday morning we even got treated to a police chase circling through town twice (it was a white Ford Bronco, I think..ha ha) before we had a quick bite at their small, complimentary breakfast spread. This was a spur of the moment stay for my husband and I. It was a place to stay out of convenience. My main complaint was the price. The people were nice and the room was clean. We found them after making about 20 phone calls to other hotels with no vacancy. I wish we had kept our money and drove the 2 and a half hours home. We paid $155 for a creeky slanted floor, super small bathroom, it could have been a half bath no joking, and what sounded like mice in the walls. Ooh and the continental breakfast was cereal and toast. I felt as though $90 would have been more appropriate for what we got. Thanks for the place to sleep but it feels like we got robbed. read more

I went to The Tilton Inn Hotel and Onion Resturant for a vacation and enjoyed very minute of it. The new owners from Bermuda Allan and Kathy Powell made me feel at home away from home.
