Hands down my worst tattoo and it came out of black sparrow. I got this about a month ago and I was very upset so I went to another artist FRANCISCO in the shop he assured me he could fix. I was impressed with previous work he had done and I was eager to get blasted. I dropped 6,000 CASH!!! Was told I would get my legs finish and that tattoo fixed. Prior to the commitment I made him aware I work construction and my schedule constantly changes hour very etc. needless to say I had to cancel and appointment a couple times with a very generous noticed. He basically told me to figure it out and it's going to be 1200 either way. The conversation got heated and I wanted to be cashed out and iv been ghosted. Basically got robbed 6k Just take your hard earned money down the street!!!! These tattoos are only on you forever! read more

Found Black Sparrow Tattoo on a Google search while visiting San Clemente and just moseyed on in. Staff was super chill and friendly. Place was clean. They took me as a walk-in for a touch up. Nice & clean work. Gave me a fair price after looking for a long time with high shop minimums. Highly recommend Edgar! Thanks again! read more

My son just came home from a Marine deployment of 9 months on a ship. He had a special tattoo in mind and we had tried several ships that were too busy. Thankfully he met Lou a couple days before and scheduled a session for today. Lou even called him earlier in the day to confirm a couple things about the art. We got there for the appointment and Lou is nothing but the most professional and nicest tattoo artist I've ever met. You see the level of commitment to his art and how much thought he puts into his skill. He spent almost four hours and added quite a bit of his creativity which knocked this tattoo out of the park. I only wish I lived in CA so I could come here for my next tat. read more

Stix did an amazing job on my tattoo. It was my second tattoo but first at Black Sparrow. He walked me through everything he was doing, was very easy going and relaxed, and made me feel at ease despite my fear of needles. I actually had to ask him to stop because I was getting queasy but he gave me water and a fruit cup and explained it was normal and nothing to be embarrassed about. It is a very clean shop in a nice location and I would definitely go back to Stix for any future tattoos! read more

Found Alex Fiore on IG and followed her steps on contacting her to book an appointment. Sent a really nice email complimenting her work and telling her I was interested in getting matching tattoos with my sister. Sent specific instructions on what we wanted, where we wanted them and even included some pics for reference. Told her we wanted them in red Ink. However I hadn't received a response back for 4 days so I checked out her IG only to see that see posted on her story that she's "not interested in red ink tattoos". I have no issue with that (would have been great for her to have specified that in her instructions) but felt snubbed because she took the time to post that to her IG but couldn't respond back to the email I sent. Her work looks great as displayed on IG but her professionalism towards appointments and booking is severely lacking. read more

This shop is by far one of the most laid back tattoo shops I have been to. All the artists are amazing, friendly, and kind. I had Scott do an owl on my chest and he absolutely killed it. Gio the shop owner and his apprentice Alex F just did a price on my calf. I am beyond happy with the service, accommodation, and pricing of these individuals. I will continue coming back to this shop for all future work. read more

I won a piece from their last Friday the 13th contest! Woohoo! Totally great experience both times. I got a small black rose from Alex, and a cool skull with roses by Gio. Despite being free tattoo, Gio was willing to work with me and redraw my tattoo several times. He was super nice and the whole experience was great, the tattoo ended up being super sick! The place has a cool interior and and a bunch of talented artists that are willing to give you constructive feedback regarding your tattoos. read more

I met tattoo artist Stix through a friend and really liked his work. Black Sparrow is a few blocks from another friend's house, so I set up an appointment with Stix for my friend and I. His art and color work is fantastic and I am in love with the tattoos he did for both of us. He also recolored an old tattoo of mine and I am no longer embarrassed by it. My previous tattoo artist retired, and I am so happy to have found Stix as my new go-to to artist. Please do yourself a favor and go to this shop. read more

Love this place SO MUCH!! The guys there are all super cool and funny, it's a very inviting place, super clean with an edgy vibe, and feels like family each time I go back. Bruce and Alex are my artists and they do really great work. I'm such a perfectionist and had Bruce edit a small design for me that was a tribute to my baby niece who passed away, for probably like 20 minutes and he was happy to do so. They really listen to what you want and execute it very well! I always get excited to go back there for Friday the 13th and for custom pieces and recommend them to anyone I meet who wants to get tatted! read more

I will definitely be coming back here, everyone is friendly, everything is clean. Stix did my lion tattoo and I am SO happy with it, I was nervous due to my first tattoo experience being terrible at a different tattoo shop but he made sure I was comfortable and he showed confidence in his work. Thank You! Will be coming back for more! (picture isn't in the best position since it's on my back, & took it myself) read more

Ask for STIX! He does absolutely amazing work efficiently and the prices are amazing! Honestly STIX is just an all around solid, nice dude! Very light hands and gets the job done better than expected. He finished up and existing tribal piece for me adding a pretty large section in and repairing some of the spots that were damaged over the years. I am extremely happy with how it came out and already have plans to go back for a new piece. Also all the guys at the shop were very friendly and helpful, the shop was very clean and low key. Thanks again STIX! read more

I've gotten tattoos from all over the area but for the past 10 years have only gotten work done by Alex by far the best artist around

My friend and I went in for Friday the 13th tattoos and had Marco (IG- the real vanilla gorilla tattoo) as our artist. It was my friends first tattoo so of course she was a little nervous but that changed fast. Instantly marco made her feel so comfortable and helped her out so much when she was struggling through the tattoo. My husband and I both have also gotten work done by Marco in the past and all I gotta say is it was a 10/10 experience every time I have been in. He makes sure you're comfortable and makes the experience one you won't forget. All you'll do is laugh while you're in there. His work is phenomenal and I hope I can continue to get all my work done by him. My husband and I both get compliments daily on our tattoos. Seriously the best in Southern California!! read more

I got my first tattoo done previously by a friend. After it healed over, I didn't like the way it looked. So I came here to get it touched up and I love it a million times more. The owner, Geo, did the touch up for me. Everyone in there is so nice and friendly. If I ever do decide to get another tattoo, this is where I'm going to go. Also it won't let me give five stars for some reason. Otherwise I would've. read more

Had a great experience here. Clean, hygienic, funky little shop in southwest San Clemente. 50th Birthday ink from Stix, who gave me a perfect tattoo to mark the occasion, put up with my crazy friends taking pictures, asking questions, and generally causing havoc. He even gave them a lesson in the science of tattooing. Super happy to have found Stix and the crew at Black Sparrow Tattoo. read more

Such a friendly environment! Everyone here does great work and takes care of their customers to the fullest extent. Love the place, great vibe and the shop is beautiful! Update: Amazed yet again by Scott and his talent. I came in with one idea, and went home completely blown away with the final product. Beautiful detail. Amazing. Not to mention, Melanie is great at what she does and I've never trusted someone with a needle near me as much as I do with her. She's extremely knowledgeable, patient, and is always more than happy to answer any questions I have! read more

My mom and I came here to get matching tattoos. We had an idea of what we wanted but we were still a bit unsure. After talking to Geo and telling him what we wanted, he drew up the most beautiful tattoo. We instantly fell in love!! It was my moms first tattoo and she was nervous but Geo was kind and explained every step of the way. She felt so comfortable with him and so did I! As soon as he started tattooing, my mom and I were pleasantly surprised by his extremely light hand. I could have sat there for hours! Not to mention the interior design is one of a kind. Lou at this shop gave me a thigh tattoo. He told me that if I needed to come back for a touch up it would be no cost, "I got you." I then let my tattoo heal for little over a month. I hit Lou back up to touch my tattoo up. I hit him up and I would not get a response for days. Then one week he hit me back up. I asked him if he can touch up the tattoo he gave me. He always gave an excuse, "sorry man I was moving." A month goes by and still no response or date set to touch up the $400 tattoo I got from him. Ide recommend going to someone else at this shop. I heard very good things about the other artist. My tattoo to this day is still not fully shaded and lines are faded. Pretty disappointed at this guy! Just wanted to share. Love my piece but wish the customer service was there! read more
