I adore Black Sheep for weekend brunch. I had a party of 3 on a Sunday morning without a reservation and was lucky to be seated right away. I ordered the Risotto because it sounded like a really interesting twist on an Eggs Benedict and I was not disappointed! It was really interesting and tasty. I also ordered a side of waffles for something sweet. The rest of my party ordered the Breakfast Sandwich and Chicken & Waffle--no bad reviews all around. Pricing was super fair, $14-16 per entree. One of our go-to places for happy hour! They have great drink deals and the food is also so good. I normally get the house sangria but this time I tried some sour cherry and lime spritzer. I really enjoyed the ambience inside - they have a nice bar set up and tables are spaced out enough where it doesn't feel crowded. For the main entree I ordered the soy ginger salmon paired with the sangria. My salmon was savory along with the carrots and the bok choy I really enjoyed it. If you want to give Black Sheep a try, make sure you book a reservation, unless you are okay with sitting at the bar. We went right at 10am on Saturday and they were completely filled with reservations. We happily sat at the bar since it's full service! We started with the pancake cheese curds...and ate them too quickly for me to grab a picture! These were easily some of the best curds we have had. The chicken and waffles was more like a cornbread with waffles. Once we seasoned our entrees, they were a bit better. Portion size was really great. I didn't have time to eat a full breakfast, but wanted to at least try Black Sheep's pancake battered cheese curds. I sat down at the bar and placed an order to go while in the area during weekend brunch hours. The batter was noticeably different than other kinds I've had on cheese curds. My initial thought was that I wish it had more of a sweetness to it like I associate with pancakes. The curds did come with a side of syrup to dip them in, which was a great combination, but I guess I was expecting a little bit more out of the batter itself without needing to dip them in the syrup. The staff was helpful and pleasant. There's maybe one or two other things on the menu I'd be willing to try if I came again during brunch. I don't know if I would get the cheese curds again, especially at $12 (as of 8/14/2022) since they didn't wow me, but I wouldn't fault anyone who wants to try them. read more

I have been here a few times, and have nothing but great things to say about it! The restaurant is dimly lit, a little louder, but has a very young and fun feel to it. The service is always speedy, and I have loved nearly every dish I've had here. By far my favorite menu item is the Caesar Brussels sprouts!! Absolutely amazing. Crispy, saucy, and delicious. The Nashville hot chicken sandwich is a staple as well- a little messy but very tasty. The last time I came I tried the bacon jam burger and was a bit disappointed. My sister called for a reservation / to see if there was a wait right before leaving. The person was hard to understand with the volume. 5 patio tables, 1 over some degraded manhole with a hole in it. The patio area in the parking lane was decorated with modern lights and structure. Dogs are allowed. They have a call button to order and menu are online. The posters with naked men with Sheep heads covering their heads in the dimly lit bathroom was suprising. The cheese curds are covered in powdered sugar and served with syrup. The pancake batter is a clever twist for brunch but the cheese curds weren't melted. Black sheep is so yummy! We started with their pretzel and cheese curd plate. Which was 2 perfectly soft large pretzels with semi melted cheese in the middle. It was the perfect combination of savory and salty and great for sharing! We next had the orchiaetta pasta which is out of this world!! Could easily eat it everyday. We had it without meat but it was perfect. An explosion of flavor but not too overwhelming. It's the perfect amount to share between two people as it is pretty rich. I've been coming to Black Sheep for literally years now and I feel as strongly about them deserving 5 stars then as I do now. Black Sheep is just a special place especially during this time of the pandemic. The staff and the chefs keep doling out the goods correct, and I enjoy this joint every time I go. Everything is much more spread out now, but you get the same great service and so many awesome dishes to choose from. Last night I enjoyed the unveiling of a new Friday fish fry dish called "chicken fried" trout. Wow was this plate great. I couldn't even down the whole thing. It was a perfect way to start the long Holiday stretch. We rolled up parked right out front and jumped in for our reservation. Welcome to the way the world works these days and I don't mind the $25 hold fee for reserving one bit! Black Sheep keep making it happen and we'll keep coming! I have heard many good things about Black Sheep on many different platforms, so I made my way over to give it a try. Unfortunately, the experience did not live up to the hype. The ambiance/vibe is 5/5, and the service is 5/5, too. Also, the drinks were good (5/5 there too). The real disappointment came from the food. I was under the impression that the food here was very good, but that was not the case. 2/5 on the food. The restaurant has a cool vibe with a bar, good music, and a lot of dim lighting from candles which is cool. The service was also really good. Our waiter was so nice and attentive to us. They also give you a button to press if you want your waiter to come, so they'll know right away if you need something (you don't have to try to stare at them until they notice you!) First, the drinks we tried were really good. I tried the "I can't believe it's not cider" and "my drunk aunt" (Fall specialty drinks). Both very good. For an appetizer, we had to try the pancake battered cheese curds. They were strange because you don't usually have sweet curds dipped in maple syrup, but it was actually pretty good. These are not curds that you can eat the whole order by yourself like some other curds, but they were unique and fun to try. The food was just disappointing otherwise. I ordered the orecchiette pasta with truffle cream sauce and it was sooooo salty that I had to send it back. I usually will eat whatever I order even if I don't really like it, but this plate was just inedibly salty. I knew I literally wouldn't be able to eat it, so I asked for the chefs burger instead. The waiter was really nice about it and apologetic, so that was a plus. The chef's burger is in the menu with several toppings, and sounds good. The burger that came out to me was just a plain burger with half a slice of cheese on it. That was disappointing but I did not have it in me to say something a second time so I ate a few bland bites (because no toppings!) and called it a night. I tried a bite of my boyfriends Nashville hot chicken sandwich which was also just ok. The flourless chocolate cake was good for dessert. It's not super dense like other flourless chocolate cakes can be, so that was nice. Finally, the prices are a bit higher than I would have liked especially for the food given the mediocrity of it. I would've loved to give this place a good rating, but because of the food, I really couldn't do that. If you are looking for a bar to get some drinks at, you would be ok coming here. We split the truffle fry appetizer and the Black Sheep Burger with a side of mac and cheese. The food was good and the perfect amount between the two of us. The menu was a little smaller than I was hoping for, but it still had enough variety for the group. I totally understand how the restaurant industry and how overworked and ynderstaffed the staff is here but if it is going to take the staff an estimated length to serve a table drinks I believe it's best to not seat or at least let them know it'll be busy versus letting ppl sit and not be served. I felt like me and my friends waited 30-45 min to get water and order drinks after getting seated. They have a lot of wine options some by their tap dispenser machine things and bottles. I don't remember the food too much but I believe it was good. The snack boards and Brussels sprouts were def the highlight for me and not the food.
