The problem with this place is the incompetence of the employees and general incompetence on how to make certain drinks. It seems they hire based on the amount of nose rings vs ability Seriously, the reason Starbucks is popular is the consistency of their products regardless of location. When you order a mocha and the barista (used lightly) says they pour chocolate milk into the coffee... that's a joke. More importantly when you order a 24oz hot drink and attendant gives you a 16oz... then argues with you that it's a 24oz... this complete incompetence stupidity.... Then you have to ask for a Java jacket or they give you a hot drink without This place has potential, however if your menu is flawed and employees incapable your left with no choice then to go elsewhere. I had a deeply upsetting experience with the coffee shop baristas that left me in tears on my drive home. The girl who appeared to be in charge was especially rude and dismissive toward me, while the others followed her lead. She looked me up and down with a smirk that felt mocking and discriminatory, then told me I couldn't use my birthday reward with no clear explanation. When I hesitated about tipping after the way I was treated, she laughed and said "no tip," which felt humiliating and unprofessional. I usually try to give places the benefit of the doubt, but this Black Rock location really tests my patience. First off, they never seem to restock cream cheese. Every time I order a bagel, they tell me they're out and suggest butter instead -- seriously, who eats a bagel with butter? On top of that, the drive-thru speaker must be broken because I always have to repeat myself five or six times just to get my order across. It's beyond frustrating, especially when you're in a hurry. And one more thing -- they never want to give you a straw. I get that they have those sippy cup lids now, but I'm not a baby. I prefer drinking my coffee with a straw, and it shouldn't be a battle to get one. Overall, it feels like this location is slipping on the basics -- communication, consistency, and customer service. I've walked past this location almost every day for the past year, and decided to pop in after seeing that they had their own brand of energy drink on their web site. They have three varieties of canned energy drink, and I bought the sugar-free variety. I also bought a slice of banana bread, and all of this set me back $10.15. How was the overall experience? 1. The energy drink was DISGUSTING!!!! It has some sort of sickly sweet, rotten floral smell. Ever been to an overripe landfill that stunk so bad you could almost taste it? Ever smelled a corpse flower? That's what the energy drink tasted like (I threw it away after two sips). 2. The banana bread was among the worst I'd ever had. There was no indication that it was gluten-free, but it tasted like it was made with some sort of non-wheat flour, or possibly sawdust. It was dry, bland, had no discernible banana flavor, had a weird overall "off" flavor, and an extremely peculiar texture. It was also REALLY tiny. It, too, went in the trash after two bites. Aside from the terrible food and beverage, are they any other perks? Sure, you can sign up for their rewards program by giving them your cellular phone number, which gives you a discount on your next purchase. To activate it, you (no joke) have 30 minutes to reply after they send you your "welcome" text, otherwise, you forfeit the discount. That text also doesn't arrive right away, so if, for example, you did this at their drive-through, and then went on a longish road trip, you'd likely forfeit. There's also marked crosswalk, but it's directly at the end of the drive-through exit, which is right at the end of the side of the building, so pedestrians trying to use it are WAY out to the side of drivers trying to pull away (they likely won't see you), so it is far riskier for pedestrians to try to use it than it is to cross over to the sidewalk much further away from the building. The only sort of good thing about my visit was the friendliness of the employees, thus the extra star. I'll never come back. read more

Used to love blackrock. Service has gone down hill and prices have skyrocketed. I saw an ad for free Father's Day coffee. I drove there and confirmed before ordered I'd get a feee Father's Day coffee, they said "yes, 16oz" I said "perfect" and ordered my drink. After waiting in the line I get to the window and they have my drink made and they tell me "oh it's actually BOGO so you only get this drink if you buy another one", and I said "oh I don't want a second coffee though" and they said "well that's the deal" and I said "never mind" and just drove off. So they would rather throw my drink away then just provide me what was promised. I'm never going back on principle alone. F this place. So many better local options. read more

Gosh dang it I want to like this place! I at least love the people at the Mt Hood Community College location.... but really Vancouver location get your act together. If I come in, it's not busy inside but there are three cars in the drive thru it is NOT busy. One gal was super nice and she was new. I paid $5.50 for a cup of coffee with chocolate and milk... so freaking make the darn thing right and don't huff when you get it wrong!!!!! Then I order an extra large extra sweet sf zebra mocha... I can tell they need help so I ask what kind of milk they use...2%... um newsflash yo barista that adds more sugar!!!! You need to do SF as breve... so i pay more for extra sweet (bc sugar free syrups just don't have as much flavor), more for breve... so now my freaking coffee drink is almost $7. I almost canceled and went to get a burger. Anyway that drink finally comes and goes swear she used non fat because it tastes like burnt coffee water. I ask for more sweet and she huffs again. I didn't even bother explaining the flavor plain sucked! Look stick with Red Bull/Rockstars/hot tea here because apparently you're asking too much to have your expensive a$$ drink made right at this location! This location is one of the better black rocks. For the MOST part, the barista here are cheery, pleasant, and accommodating. They're up for a good challenge, and don't terribly disappoint when asked to concoct something not in ye ole generic american coffee handbook. There is an exception. One d-bag employee kinda ruins it for the rest by acting like... well, a dbag. I wish him well in life, but a flat-billed-cap alone won't make a bad attitude and lack of interest in your job or customers like you. They consistently cannot get my coffee order correct. They were not very busy all three times I went through either. And I left a tip.

I love the baristas here. They are friendly, personable and make a consistently good cup of coffee. That said, the fact there is one window and no speakerbox, means they can't take your order and start on it by the time you pull up to the window. The wait here is absolutely and utterly batshit ridiculous at times. It was on my way to work, so I went often. When I'm headed down 117th, I stop...as long as I don't have to be anywhere that doesn't mind that I expect to wait 20ish minutes to get a cup of coffee, sometimes longer. I stopped two weeks ago, thinking I had plenty of time to get to my son's 7:30PM music lesson... I did not. Not only we we late, we were nearly 15 minutes late. Once you commit to the drive through line and someone is behind you, there simply is no escape. I suppose I could have zoomed off as soon as there were no cars in front of me, but at that point, if I waited that long (35 minutes), I'm getting coffee, dammit. read more

I'm never impressed by the customer service of this location. There's only been one staff member in the last year that has been polite and in good spirits. I'm a regular at the Mill Plain location and never see there. The women in location are rude and act inconvienced by customers. The lines are always very long as well and it moves very slow. Okay well funny I ordered two yesterday. One from this location. No issue at that point. So I say whatever and change it up and ask for it with no ice. She hands me a drink with ice. I hand it back and said I asked for no ice please she pours half into a smaller cup and hands me bath cups. Very good coffee, and friendly staff. They just don't connect with you in the same chill and friendly manor as the Dutch Bros crew does. It's not a location thing, but a BR training thing. Otherwise, the service and drinks are great! I give 4 stars for what I consider perfect, and only give out 5 stars for those who go above and beyond.
