Was looking for a new place to study as a college student who loves coffee. It's super close to home and is so cute inside. Food and drink are good and service is excellent.

I saw this place open near my house and was looking to get a little breakfast while on the way home so I decided to go through the drive thru to see what Black Rock was about. There menu has lots of options for coffee drinkers but also non-coffee drinkers like myself. I opted for a strawberry passion tea and their egg and potato burrito and picked up a mexican mocha coffee and sausage and egg burrito for my husband. The burritos were better than we both expected to come from a coffee shop. They were good sized, filling and had a little kick to them. The tea was a little sweet for my taste but my husband really enjoyed his Mexican mocha. Staff in the drive thru was very friendly and we look forward to trying more of the menu!

This place is so cool! I loved all of the decor and the servers were amazing! I didn't overly love my latte which is the reason for the four star review. I loved having the garage door up so that I could enjoy the cool breeze on a beautiful day. What a nice coffee shop to work at on the north side of Houston. I will definitely be back to visit again soon!

My first time trying Black Rock Coffee in Champion Forest. It was a fast service, great customer service in the drive thru. I got the hot caramel blondie it was delicious.

The kanafa was perfectly baked golden and crisp on the outside, with a rich, soft cheese center that pulled beautifully with every cut. The balance of sweetness was spot on, soaked just enough in syrup without being overpowering. What really stood out was the generous layer of finely ground pistachios on top, fresh, fragrant, and full of flavor. Every bite was indulgent yet light, and it tasted just like traditional homemade kanafa. It was a hit with everyone, from adults to kids, and disappeared quickly from the table. This kanafa was not just a dessert, but an experience. If you're looking for authentic, high-quality Middle Eastern sweets made right, Golden Roastery is a must. We'll definitely be coming back for more!

We visited Golden Roastery last week after my husband saw it featured on Houston Life, and I wasn't…read morequite sure what to expect--but I'm really glad we went. We stopped by the FM 1960 location, and while it sits in a small, somewhat worn shopping strip, don't let that fool you. The real charm starts the moment you walk through the door. Inside, we were immediately struck by the gold décor and a stunning display of beautifully trimmed serving ware for sale. One wall features a mesmerizing mural of a pair of eyes--perfect for Instagram-worthy photos. The shop is packed with sweet treats from around the world. There's even a section with individually wrapped mini chocolates labeled with messages like "Happy Birthday" and "Congratulations," along with prepackaged dessert trays for baby showers and other special occasions. As we explored further, we found a wide selection of nuts and pre-made sweets--honestly, we were surprised by just how many goodies there were to choose from. Now, onto what we tried. The pistachio halva wasn't very sweet; the pistachio flavor was the only thing that really came through. It had a soft, nougat-like texture but felt a bit bland overall. I also ordered the strawberry tres leches--one of my favorite desserts--mainly because I couldn't resist. While the presentation was beautiful (almost too pretty to eat), it lacked the sweetness you'd expect from the condensed milk. The brownie topped with Dubai chocolate also fell short in flavor, missing that rich chocolate sweetness you usually get from a good brownie. As for drinks, we tried the caramel frappuccino and the golden ice cream coffee. The frappuccino was just okay--not particularly rich or memorable. The golden ice cream coffee, though, was a standout. The blend of coffee and ice cream with a drizzle of caramel was absolutely delicious--and the lady named Ro was super sweet and helpful in guiding us through the drink options. Overall, we were impressed by the variety and unique offerings, and we definitely plan to return to try more items--especially the crepes.

I understood they were having power issues and were operating on a generator. Their tablet system appeared to be working, as I could see my order while placing it. I was making a large order for my coworkers and needed an itemized receipt. When I asked for one, I was told they couldn't provide it due to the power outage. I then asked if they could pull up my order on the tablet so I could take a photo of it, and I was told "yes, one second." However, after my order was ready and I followed up, the staff member seemed irritated and repeated that they couldn't provide a receipt because of the power issue. I clarified that I only needed to take a picture of the order on the screen, which I thought we had already agreed on. I also didn't realize that every add-on they offer comes with an extra charge. For example, when asked what kind of milk I wanted, it wasn't mentioned that 2% milk (which is typically the default) had an upcharge. Additionally, when a soft top was offered for an iced drink, it wasn't disclosed that it was a $1.50 extra charge. This was frustrating, as these add-ons were suggested by staff without clarifying the additional cost. While the issue was eventually resolved, I left feeling unhappy with the overall experience. I did return once afterward, but between the inconsistent beverages and the lack of transparency around pricing, I don't think I'll be coming back.

I was recovering from a cold so I decided to order a hot herbal tea and was happy to see that they had such a huge selection of loose leaf teas to choose from. My friend also got one of their lattes and we couldn't resist getting a tiramisu before leaving. Overall, we liked everything and I think this place is worth a visit for that Kafeina latte. - Kafeina Latte (4/5): The lady told us that this latte was half white chocolate and half pistachio and we could definitely tastes both flavors. I really liked how they put a lot of pistachio pieces in the drink, giving it a crunchy texture. This drink is definitely on the sweeter side though, so keep that in mind. - Nutty Almond Cream Cinnamon Herbal Tea (4/5): I was very happy with the flavor of this tea. Like the name suggest, it tasted very almond-y and had a good amount of cinnamon flavored. There was also a tangy fruity flavor that followed and reminded me of spiced cider. - Tiramisu (4.5/5): I was really impressed with their tiramisu. The mascarpone layer was very nice and custardy, yet felt so light and refreshing. I also loved how strong the coffee flavor was which helped balance out the dessert and made it not too sweet. Service/Ambiance: Upon entering, I was really surprised by how pretty the interior was with the mixture of gold and wood. I'm not sure how pack this place usually gets because I came at an off time ( like 1 pm), but they had a good amount of tables and seating available. I did see a handful of people studying, so I think this would be a good quiet study spot.

The space is huge and had a great cafe vibe. The bookshelf had a couple books and I realized I read almost half of them, very cool. I ordered one blueberry scone, and that, unfortunately, was not great. It took about 15 minutes to get the one scone, while my groceries sat in my hot car. I'd finished my coffee before I got the scone and since a scone is typically very dry it's kinda meant to go with a drink (I mean, why did it take that long to put the scone in the microwave for a minute). I ended up taking it home to have with a home coffee. I bit into the scone and it tasted like straight-up refrigerator. Just nasty. It went straight to the trash. I wish I would have known, I could have saved time and just flushed a $5 bill into toilet instead. But, I can't stop thinking about that cold brew!

Given that weve had to give up so much in the coffee drinking experience we try and get what we do consume to taste as fresh as possible so weve turned to getting our decaf beans roasted locally. Weve tried a couple of places in Houston and just recently came across District Coffee. Once we checked their website and made sure it was swiss water processed and not bathed in paint stripper chemicals we decided to give them a try... the head roaster Alex is a humble guy who has a family operated business near the 249/Cypress area. I drove out to the District headquarters to pick up a pound of decaf and Alex gave me a tour around the facility which was modest, but professional. Before i left, Alex asked about the reason for decaf and i explained that we mix it with regular to create a half caff blend and with that he walked over to a bin in the shop and pulled out an additional bag of whole bean half caff blend of their signature roast and said it was "on the house" since i had come all the way out from the Sugar Land area. Wow. Now that was unexpected and also very nice considering gas costs near four bucks these days. We just had a pour over cup of that this morning and it was very, very smooth. If the regular whole bean decaf is anywhere close to the smoothness of this signature half caff roast we will most likely add District coffee to our regular rotation of coffees for our morning routine. Thanks Alex. Good luck to you and your family and we'll spread the word about your brand. Take care.
