This weekend was the grand opening up the golden roastery on 1960. We have frequented the previous location in Houston and a loved the different flavors of nuts.They have nuts and lots of different sweets. We always come out of there with multiple bags filled with goodies to last us for at least a month till we go again. This weekend, we just wanted to check out this new location. It's quite spacious- there's lots of seating, and the parking lot is spacious. We got the mango ice cream which was delicious, the iced pistachio latte, which was pretty good, (but not my favorite) and the crunchy knafa, which was pretty nice as well. It could have been warmer, so it would have a better cheese pull. The Dubai chocolate was pretty good as well. We definitely will be back to try the turkish delights and our favorite--the spiced roasted nuts. Now that this location is on our side or town, we definitely will be stopping by a lot more often. We visited Golden Roastery last week after my husband saw it featured on Houston Life, and I wasn't quite sure what to expect--but I'm really glad we went. We stopped by the FM 1960 location, and while it sits in a small, somewhat worn shopping strip, don't let that fool you. The real charm starts the moment you walk through the door. Inside, we were immediately struck by the gold décor and a stunning display of beautifully trimmed serving ware for sale. One wall features a mesmerizing mural of a pair of eyes--perfect for Instagram-worthy photos. The shop is packed with sweet treats from around the world. There's even a section with individually wrapped mini chocolates labeled with messages like "Happy Birthday" and "Congratulations," along with prepackaged dessert trays for baby showers and other special occasions. As we explored further, we found a wide selection of nuts and pre-made sweets--honestly, we were surprised by just how many goodies there were to choose from. Now, onto what we tried. The pistachio halva wasn't very sweet; the pistachio flavor was the only thing that really came through. It had a soft, nougat-like texture but felt a bit bland overall. I also ordered the strawberry tres leches--one of my favorite desserts--mainly because I couldn't resist. While the presentation was beautiful (almost too pretty to eat), it lacked the sweetness you'd expect from the condensed milk. The brownie topped with Dubai chocolate also fell short in flavor, missing that rich chocolate sweetness you usually get from a good brownie. As for drinks, we tried the caramel frappuccino and the golden ice cream coffee. The frappuccino was just okay--not particularly rich or memorable. The golden ice cream coffee, though, was a standout. The blend of coffee and ice cream with a drizzle of caramel was absolutely delicious--and the lady named Ro was super sweet and helpful in guiding us through the drink options. Overall, we were impressed by the variety and unique offerings, and we definitely plan to return to try more items--especially the crepes. read more

I've tried the Dubai chocolate cake from Royal Roastery and Golden Roastery, and the difference was noticeable. Royal Roastery did an excellent job, the pistachio filling was clearly layered throughout the cake, the texture was perfect, and the presentation was beautiful with Dubai chocolate and strawberries on top. It truly felt premium. Golden Roastery was disappointing for the price. The 8" cake was $60 plus an additional $10 for the optional Dubai chocolate bar on top, but the presentation was very basic. The pistachio filling seemed to be only in the center instead of layered, and then they added chocolate chips which gave it an unexpected crunch that didn't match the traditional pistachio/kataifi texture I expected. I'm not trying to insult Golden Roastery, just setting expectations. For the same price, Royal Roastery delivers far better quality and presentation, and I would choose them again even with the longer drive. read more

Came here a few days after their grand opening and it didn't disappoint! Ambience was really nice, felt just like I was in Hilcroft. Service was great too, the cashier greeted me with Salam which is always great. Now for the food: I got a Dubai chocolate crepe with strawberries added on for $1.99. It tasted great. Only critique is that I feel that the amount of strawberry I got was kinda low for the price they charged, and the crepe was a little thicker and on the heavier side. The vast inventory of treats and delicacies, the exceptional service from everyone I encountered and the lack of lines makes this an outstanding location. Whether it is Dubai chocolate, Turkish pastries or bold coffee, this is your answer. I took home lots of pistachio cream, a Dubai crepe and croissant (I thought I could conquer that on my own. Two bites in I knew better). And polished off a cappuccino. Every staff member greeted me with a smile and the manager got me product that wasn't sold on the floor and saved me lots of time creating my own. I've been eyeing this place since they've opened. I finally got the opportunity to go today. I didn't realize how big this place was also! They have an extensive variety of sweets to choose from. From ice cream to all types of Dubai chocolate bars, roasted nuts, and different types of drinks you can think of. Very spacious in here I will say, and it was a little busy for a Friday evening, but nothing too crazy. The staff there were very welcoming and helpful. I went in to try their Dubai chocolate strawberries. I think this is the only place that I've been to that has the option of a large or small cup. Another thing that I do appreciate is that the strawberries are made to order so they're not sitting there while the chocolate has already hardened. I saw the young lady who took my order, actually make my strawberries and they had the chocolate fountain visible for everyone to see. They had more than just sweets to buy, they were quite of few of other things even to have for your household. Definitely will return to try more things off their menu. read more

Got their signature pistachio latte and it was very good! Not overly sweet and a good amount of real (not artificial tasting) pistachio for flavoring. I usually drive to Royal Roastery on Westheimer, but it's a bit of a drive. Recently, my son and I stopped by this closer location thinking it was the same place when we went in for Dubai Strawberries. The lady who helped us that day was nice, maybe not quite the level of service I'm used to at the Westheimer location, but no real complaints. Today, I asked my kids if they wanted a treat, and since this spot is so close to home, we decided to give it another try. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the start. When we walked in, there was no greeting or customer service. The gentleman at the register didn't say a word he just stood there waiting. I asked about the difference between the Dubai Strawberries and the Biscoff option, and he explained that the only difference was the pistachio butter versus Biscoff. We ordered two Dubai Strawberries and one Biscoff. Because of the unfriendly atmosphere, I chose to wait in the car. To my surprise, my kids came out with a warm cup topped with white chocolate. I went back inside to ask why the cup was hot and why the chocolate was white, since the picture didn't show white chocolate. I was told the cup was hot because the dough was fresh. Since I didn't want white chocolate, I decided to switch it back to the Dubai Strawberries to be safe. Once in the car, I tasted my treat and was extremely disappointed to find that the strawberries were old and tasted rotten. After getting home, I ended up picking out the bad strawberries and cutting up fresh ones myself to salvage it. There were very few strawberries in the cup compared to everything else. Overall, I'm really disappointed. I'll likely go back to making the drive across town for the level of customer service and product quality I expect especially for what I'm paying. EVERYTHING WAS PHENOMENAL!!! Right out of the gate it smells amazing!!! The coffee - check. The incredible desserts I ordered to go....well the intricate designs were lost on my husband and son - but not the FLAVORS!!! Raspberry and lemon filled with mousse and well....happiness! They devoured them and were bummed I didn't bring more. I don't even tell them that before I left I sat and enjoyed with my friend our lattes and THE MOST INCREDIBLE I E CREAM I'VE EVER HAD!!! Dubai strawberry is gifted DIRECTLY from heaven and I can't wait to go back. (I also didn't mention the mixed berry cake roll that is as beautiful as I know it will be yummy that I hid in the fridge for tomorrow. Tonight I'm everyone's favorite. They need good management, the restrooms were out of supplies at 7:30 PM on Sunday. They had lots of employees there but they were not helping customers as they walked in. Outside the side door of the restaurant is a garbage dumpster that has been a problem for years due to a non compliant landlord. Health department has been out numerous times due to rats, etc. I would not recommend this establishment regardless of the quality of the food unless this is taken care of.
