Angier location was definitely a disappointment today. clearly under staffed. could not get help when our guns would not fire. Could not find a a staff member in sight. had to get a stranger to fix the gun issue. the referee was clearly not trained. We were all Red. how are you to know which team is which. A hour into our 2 hr reservation they put everyone who was there on one course. 32 Ppl. Are you kidding me!!! they only let us play 2 courses. We will never return here. I don't blame the staff, Im sure they did the best they could. I do blame whomever took all these reservations and didn't make sure you were properly staffed. read more

It's ok... Go on! Go on without me! The dramatic thought flashed through my head as I watched my Yelp paintball comrades (Michael E, Tripp W, Jon W) move forward on the enemy. While I lay in a crumpled mess in a shallow foxhole, trying to work my knee back to full functionality. But it wasn't Black River Paintball's fault, just my old body... For those of you who enjoy paintball, Black River is a local field just south of Raleigh about 45 minutes. They run a decent operation. Check-in is pretty easy, you do the liability form online and get a punch card for access to the field. Watch a safety video (goggles on all the time, as well as your gun condom off the field), grab your gun, face shield and load up on some paintballs. Get your gun chronographed for speed (under 285 fps) and you're ready to go. We played on two of the four fields, one speedball and one more typical wooded. Pretty much elimination without a capture the flag operation. The speedball field is pretty cool, loaded with forts and gun slots, junked cars and other cover. Plenty big for 50 people or so. The wooded course was also decent with a small pond and bridge-fort area, a large space for over 50. And the crowd of course is important, Black River had a lot of kids, some families but everyone was pretty cool and friendly even if they may have been a bit hardcore. But we all played fair which makes a difference. Didn't have too many complaints outside of the fact that they didn't use armbands so there was some randomness in knowing who the enemy was. The equipment was in varied condition but overall in decent shape. And the guns, well they're about as accurate as the person on the trigger. But it was a lot of fun for all even if I may be limping around this morning. And to the dude I cut down with my friendly paintball fire, sorry! But you were facing the wrong way... read more

Paint Ball, Paint Ball, Paint Ball, Paint Ball, I love it. Another fun time playing paint ball, taking out your aggressions on your friends while smiling and laughing, and getting closer to your fellow workers. This was my first time here at this course. They are real similar to other courses. They did have a swamp area with a pond that has a bridge crossing it. It was fun trying to defend the bridge. We had a battle across the pond. That was fun too! They set you up with everything. Gun, paint balls and masks. You have to sign a waiver and watch a safety video. Then your ready to go. We also had a referee person who showed us the different courses and explained the rules to different games. We split into two different teams and then went at it. I was on the green team and we won, 4 out of 6 games. Overall it was a great experience and everyone seemed to have a great time. I would rate this place 5 stars. I really had an awesome time. Thanks to John for being our referee. He did a great job, and made it enjoyable for everyone. read more

This place allows your kids to have fun and embrace that inner child that they need to nurture. Bought a Living Social deal for a group of 8 players. We had a great time! Management staff was awesome. Refs were OK - young and learning but good - however they could have stepped up a bit at times with communication, enforcing rules, and creating teams. It got old quick that the first time players were thrown in with the professional everyday paintballers and the refs only played regular team elimination and none of the games that the business lists on their website such as Capture the Flag. Regardless, we had an enjoyable day and plan on returning soon. Great experience for beginners and corporate team building. Pack lots of drinks and food, bring chairs for breaks, change of clothes for the ride home, bug spray, and sun block. read more

The owner is only there to get your money the picture above of the welts on my back is there because this guy decided to freak out and shoot me in the back but I remained calm and decided to let him keep playing with a warning after shooting me 10+ times (hit in the upper leg lower leg and once In the chest) I've had many bad experiences there. I wouldn't recommend a big game there because it seems as if the refs are only there to get you out NOT make the game fair. They hire 14 year old kids as refs with attitudes. I began going to xtreme kombat in Durham which is much better in my opinion but I believe there's another field in angier which I might start going to and would recommend giving a shot before going to black river. read more

The Most Fun you can have for the least amount of money. We took our Women's Rugby and Softball teams to the field today. Many/most of us first timers. This place was the best. We felt welcome, safe and had one heck of a time. We got a group deal and took two large teams. We got to play every map that was open at least once. Our guide, Josh, was the absolute best. He reffed our games and was one heck of a guy. We will be back. If you're looking for something to do with friends, family or heck- even on your own- it is well worth the trip. Loved it. read more

So, my hobby is visiting Paintball Fields up and down the East Coast with my son Aaron. It is always fun going to different places and playing with different people. I saw Black River's Facebook page and decided we would take the six hour drive to try it out. It was out off the beat and path so we didn't expect anything out of the ordinary. Let me just say, I have gone to over 100 fields on the East Coast, playing as just walk on players, and this is by far one of the very best, in my top two easily!! It was a pleasant surprise to say the least. The field was probably the cleanest paintball field I have ever attended. I assumed it was a new field as clean as it was. I was shocked to find out it had been there over 20 years. You can see that it is well taken care of. The staff.... cannot say enough about how helpful and friendly they were. Most were teens and cared about the customer and ran games back to back. They also ran different types of games which made it an even better playing experience. The Manager (or owner), not sure which, went out of his way to talk to us and was interacting with everyone throughout the day making sure everyone was happy and having a good time. We felt at home and it was very refreshing surprise. It is also a large facility in the middle of nowhere...wow is all I can say! I have found a new home away from home!! Will definitely be re-visiting this hidden gem. Highly recommend Black River Paintball to anyone from first timers to experienced players. Best in NC. The staff, fields, and facilities are some of the best I have experienced. I don't really know what else to say. I am a very experienced player. I used to play speedball but due to the general population of speedball players at any field in the country being teenage d***s, I have switched over to mostly woodsball. Their rec/woods fields, big games, and walk on play are always fun and friendly here. Maybe I have hit it wrong but every time I have been recently, but their speedball field has been taken down. I would call ahead to see if it will be up and running before you go if that's what you want to do. I really don't think you will have a better experience anywhere else. read more

Not reliable! I planned an event for April but was told yesterday it was cancelled due a Battle Game they have going on that weekend. I scheduled my event in February and had paid in full. I was not the only group they were canceling that weekend either. I was unable to reschedule my event due to people coming from out of town. I will not use this place again nor will the people who were attending the event since some of them are local. Beware of scheduling events here they will just up and cancel on you. read more
