We enjoy this 9-hole course! Staff is super friendly and the course is fun to play. Not a huge fan of hole 1 as there are a lot of driving range balls on it which can make finding your ball in a timely manner a bit tricky. The rest of the course is fun and well maintained. Problems with marshals. Thought I was dealing with Clint Eastwood! Rammed my cart, would not listen to my response. I did cross a fairway on cart path only day. We played 9 holes here with my husband and his parents on Father's Day, and it was a great course. $100 for the four of us, with two golf carts, is an excellent price. The course was well maintained, and the holes provided great challenges for both the two good golfers in our group and the two mediocre/just barely competent golfers (of which I'm one). I've been coming here with my dad for years and I used to really enjoy playing this course. Today I took my dad out for our annual Father's Day round but it was a complete waste of time and money due to being accosted by other golfers on the second fairway for playing too slow, and by the field marshals numerous times as well. If you don't want to be rushed through a round when you are already playing at a respectable pace, then don't come here. Also, you get what you pay for, so spend more and go somewhere else that values your money and experience a little more. I won't be giving this place any more of my business unfortunately. read more

I have never played at this course before but what a cool little nine hole it was. First hole is pretty crazy, you're at the top of this hill and you can't see the flag at all it's downhill dogleg left. They have a flag on a tall pole on the right of the fairway if the flag is down then that means people are in the fairway where you can't see. But if the flag is up that means swing away. Pretty unique hole. Honestly there was probably only two or three holes out of nine that were actually straight. Four or five of them seem to be dog leg left. Lots of trees but some of them seem more like a border to the hole than a deterrent. Sometimes you think of a nine-hole and think that the holes are all short, but we were playing the par 5 which I believe is number three and it was playing 520 yards. First downhill slight left and then finish up hill. Like I said a very unique course. Then the par 3 which I think is number four you have to clear water at about 120 yards.Granted it is July but the greens were pretty dang fast. The clubhouse worker was super nice, the carts were in good shape and clean. I very much enjoyed playing here and would totally come back. read more

Great greens! Like better than most courses in the area. Super friendly staff. Fairways and tee boxes are just okay and could use some improvement. I think they put all the attention in the greens, and it shows. Outside of the fairways and tee boxes I wish they would put some attention to rate of play. It's a nine hole so people turning the corner can make the back nine slow. Also because it's a nine hole you get all types of golfers playing. It's a fun course but I wouldn't say it's for the beginner...lots of doglegs. Would like to see the marshal pushing slower groups along. I've played here a lot, and enjoy it every time. I hope to continue to see the little improvements they always seem to be making. read more

Tee times obviously to close together. Back ups on the first 4 holes have been bad the last few times I've been there. It's been taking 3 hrs+ for 9 holes, use to be two. I've golfed at Black Oak a few times. It's a decent 9 hole course...a little rough in places, but okay overall. However, the driving range needs help. I hope someone from the golf course reads this. The driving range needs the following. 1. The distances need to be marked with signs (50, 100, etc) in addition to flags (btw there is no longer a color coded key provided at the ball machine). 2. It gets very h-o-t in Auburn for most of the summer. Hitting balls in 90F+ direct sunlight is almost unbearable. A sunshade over the hitting area is a must...good for rainy winter days too. 3. Drinking water Admittedly, none of the other driving ranges in the area have these things, which is precisely why Black Oak should have them. If added, Black Oak would be the premiere driving range around here which would translate into more driving range business and more golf course customers. read more

I am REALLY partial to this local gem. 9 holes has been just our "fit" since knee replacement surgeries, making sure that we get our GOLF IN, and not overdo it! I personally have clocked the most golf hours here. Black Oak has been my "Training Ground" since 2011 when I first picked up clubs (seriously.) Every SINGLE timed we've been paired with another couple/twosome, we've made friends. I've always been able to "keep up" with the female golfer (and many of the men.) I am very fond of Hole # 5 (ha ha ha.) I love all the little touches and memorials dedicated to past golfers, was a wonderful testimonial to their lives! We have family nearby, so it is always great to get visit time in with them when we are done with our golf game. The sweetest lady runs the snack bar, and she always ALWAYS has a smile! I look forward to our spring/summer monthly visits! Hopefully, I'll have a better game than 2 weekends ago! read more

This is a beautiful 9 hole golf course. The course is very park like with some light rolling hills . The 4th Tee is the signature Tee with a water feature to cross. Most holes have 4 sets of Tees . Pace of play was fast. No waiting when I was there. It's fun relaxing and a bit challenging as well. What I liked about it was the laid back attitude of the course . The staff were very easy going and helpful. There is a driving range too and the buckets of balls reasonable. It's just a zip up 80 and a couple turns and you are there. I saw deer and ducks on the course. Beautiful . It's also very quiet . Seriously fun place. read more

Nice 9 hole course. Play can be a little slow at times but not too bad. The staff was friendly and helpful as it was my first time playing this course. They provided me with all the info I need as to where to hit the ball and where some of the holes were as there are a few dog legs and elevated shots. The only thing this place needs is GPS for the carts. I had no clue how far I was. If it wasn't for my Golflogix app on my cell I would've been guessing the whole time. The course is kept up pretty well and prices are decent. The food prices are surprisingly reasonable for a golf course. They have a practice range but they ask for iron use only. Bad: They still us motorized cart with gas that are extremely slow. Would definitely play here again read more

Very cool 9 hole course. Challenging to hit from back tees. Nice layout to course. We played for $17.50 including cart by booking online, so you can't beat the price. My only complaints are: no beer allowed on course, driving range has mostly old hard mats, and there was at least one green in bad shape. It was hot yesterday and we teed off at 11:30, so nine holes was plenty for us :-). read more

I always like to play this 9 hole foothills course, it has nice views from all the fairways. It had rained pretty good. The fairways were cart path only and pretty soggy. The greens were slow and fast. But overall still a great time being out in a really nice environment! Always worth it and the staff as Awesome! July 25th 2017. A NORCAL 9 HOLE GEM !!! Designed and engineered by a lefty, it's almost unfair for righties... so you better have your draw down before you make the drive. Once here you will march through mature oak lined fairways, and their dark shady canopy will cast shadows upon the landscape but DONT GET LAZY because it will take some good concentration to keep your sanity on the greens, subtle breaks and lighting fast speeds can make for some challenging putts. The tee box set ups are smart, local knowledge paramount. Bring the Gap Wedge and a 64 degree. Your best attacks on pin will be high and soft with spin control. Make a Greens book, you'll be glad you did because if you love golf, you'll be back. They have a nice Pro shop with club repair onsite. A little snack bar has the basics and 4 beers on tap. Small driving range out to 200 and a nice practice putt area. Great place for a tournament as they have the old school outdoor boards and seating area and BBQ grill. The men's group I jumped in with were friendly and fun guys, good shot makers. It's a great 9 hole to hone your skills, you WILL NOT be disappointed in the golf nor the $. Must play again. read more

One of the best (nine hole) courses around. Excellent value and challenging course. Most courses in Auburn are 18 holes and more expensive, thus if you want to get in 9 holes in 2.5 hours, this is your place. Excellent staff and management throughout. The owner and his Son are always personable. Nice little driving range too if you are in Auburn and desire to hit a buck of balls or work on your putting stroke. Short drive off of I-80. If you are right-handed and play a draw, this course sets up nicely for your shots. Unfortunately most average golfers hit a fade/slice, which will be a challenge at Black Oak. Two par 3's are also tough -- one short over a pond and another longer (about 180) straight away. One of my favorite places to escape for an afternoon! read more

What a gem of a course, inexpensive, interesting, and worth the price. I play frequently but enjoyed this track which was in good condition, greens a bit furry in the morning but a nice change in 90 plus degree weather. We chose to use a cart, but easily walkable. This course is landscaped with redwood trees among the native oaks, but the fairways are quite lush. This course is fair yet challenging and not crazy hard. I played with a variety of handicappers and we all had our share of fun. Great course for the advanced beginner. read more

What a charming, hidden gem! Very scenic and walkable course with holes that require proper ball positioning off the tee to set up for your second shot.. Course was in great condition and has challenging greens; pro shop staff, marshals, and restaurant staff are all SUPER friendly, and really go "above and beyond" to make sure your day is enjoyable. Our twosome played 9 holes in 2 hours at a comfortable pace. I usually pay four times the price in green fees, to play courses that don't have half the customer service! You will truly feel "welcome" and transported back to a more congenial time....I can't wait to return!! read more

I grew up playing at this course. Granted this course is only 9 hole's, but its great. The course is really good condition and the greens are in great shape. the 4th hole is a great par 3 hole. You have to hit from an elevated tee box and over a pond to get to the pin. Its not a difficult course ,but its challenging enough. You can play the course in 2 hours. Reasonably priced, but its only $7 after 6pm. Pro shop staff is great. read more

If you like playing causal golf in your jeans with lots of old guys in the morning and kids and beginners in the afternoon, this is a good place for you. The driving range is hilarious- the mats and balls are sooo old. They should put an old car out there as a target to give it some pizazz. read more

Nope no way even though this is our local 9 hole course and it's perty we won't be going back. Yesterday AGAIN we got stuck behind a foursome with the same older big dude in it with push carts. I have a 100 yr old granny that walks faster then these four... the big guy (second time stuck behind him:( looked back and put his club in his bag as slow as he could. We called the shop the guys behind us called the shop to get the marshal out they talked to them but the one older dude (3 weren't old) just kept on creepin' (they know who he is and he's a buddy of the owner we were told) acts like he owns the place. There were 10 people on holes the rude 4 and the rest of us just waiting and waiting. They started at 2 and weren't done until 5!!! for a 9 hole!!! THEN GUESS WHAT ... the owner came on a cart and gave THEM A BEER!!! NOT US THAT ARE WAITING BUT THE SLOW MO RUDE DUDES got a free beer. They won't tell this dude to take a cart ... and he saw over and over how many people were waiting ... Yeah Yeah his name is Kevin I think what a jerk. read more

This is a sub par 9 hole course. The staff were rude and the course was very over priced. They do not allow cart sharing, one nine hole round is $24 plus $9 per person per cart. 18 holes with 2 golfers and one cart amounts to $84! read more

Charge you more for the back nine than front. Then they will drive by and question you if you paid for it. If you like being treated terrible than look no further! Course is in bad shape to top it off! So many great courses around here why waste your time and money playing here! read more
