My 25th round yesterday. April 2026. Played with two guys who didn't know the course. I got to be…read moretour guide. The guys were 25+ handicaps. Whitney was a bit too challenging for them. They lost a LOT of balls, They seemed to enjoy scrambling around in the thick brush, marsh areas and the stands of trees searching for their balls and finding others. By ball scrounging they were net positive on the ball count by hole #18. No groups behind us so the ball collecting forays were not a problem. Whitney Oaks putting greens are wicked difficult. Not just the hard fast surfaces but from the roly-poly topography. Severe elevation changes on most holes. There isn't a flat green on this golf course. So if you are up for a challenge, come on down. As an indicator of the course difficulty the black tees at the tips have been closed. The blue tees are plenty diffiicult even for scratch golfers. Despite the challenge here, I love this golf course. It's scenic, woodsy, the air smells fresh. I always finish the game 4.5 hours later with a relaxed smile no matter how well or poorly I played.

It has a quasi Tuscan ambiance, and very open to the golf course beyond. We were seated in a separate party/private dining room from the rest of the restaurant area, and the set up was very nice with large tables and accommodating space. They had set up a coffee and refreshment area in an adjoining room with a great view out to the golf course. I had chicken for lunch and it was excellent, far better than many catered type events. It was on a bed of mashed potatoes and had asparagus, both well prepared. There seemed to be a bit of understaffing which is to be expected these days, with some minor missteps. For example, the creamer for coffee came way after the coffee service was set up and available. All in all I do recommend this place. It is open to the public and it is a very nice option for a good meal.

In the prior year they provided a stage, they wouldn't supply a stage this year (said it was broken). They pulled the buffet early despite being told there were some late people coming causing some to miss the meal. They charge 500-700 for the banquet room. When I asked if they could waived all or part of that fee given all the problems, they said no. I will never have my company event there again.

It's good for a quick and easy approach and putt practice. They are all rather easy par 2 shots, but I did get my first Ace ever here. If you do the H Clarke Elementary 9 hole (par 2, but way more technical) course down the road you can make it 18 holes that way. Both courses are quick and easy fun and great practice if you are in the area, especially if Rocklin Is overwhelmed or running League games.
