Hire this DJ. We got about a thousand and a half rave reviews from our 120 wedding guests about Jake's DJing skills. He perfectly set the scene for every part of our day, from the pre-ceremony music greeting the guests, to the low-key indie music behind our taco cart dinner, to our rocking dance party. He was super easy to work with- great communication (including a super in-depth questionnaire), laid-back personality, great knowledge, and a wide range of skills to take care of everything. He and his wife were a rock star team the day of; setting up at the reception venue mid-afternoon before heading to the park for our ceremony and dinner, then tearing down at the park and getting the party started at the reception with a stupidly short turn-around time. He took requests (including a super weird one from a groomsman that turned out to be one of the most hilariously awkward perfect moments of the night), played I'm On a Boat with all the expletives after all the old people left (ummmm... YES PLEASE. I didn't even say it was my very favorite song...), balanced the sound beautifully for both the music and the mics (indoor and outdoor), and just generally was an awesome human to interact with. My only complaints: He played Billie Jean at a wedding... (I can't really dock him for it, though, because I didn't specifically list it on my do not play list). He Might have played some must-play songs before we got there to hear them. He set up and stood right at the top of the aisle during the ceremony, so he and his wife are in a lot of our processional photos, which isn't ideal (but could be the fault of an oversight by our coordinator, not him). read more

Jacob was the DJ service. We hired for our daughters wedding. He was awesome. He kept the flow going beautifully throughout the afternoon and evening. He had questionnaires for the bride and groom and their preferences, he worked well with our coordinator too. We didn't see many current reviews of Jacob but our coordinator knew him, although we hired him first. We had two distinct areas during the wedding and he had equipment for both. He was an absolute important part of the day and he was not trying to be the start but the best support if the day. Thank You for such a great day! read more

Jacob is the best! We hired Jacob for our wedding on 8-12 on Camano Island, and honestly he was one of the highlights from the wedding. Everyone danced until we shut the wedding down. He somehow kept the 30 year and 70 year old entertained throughout the night. He works with you on a playlist to make sure you get to hear the music you want, but he also works in his music to make sure everyone is having a great time and dancing. He met with us twice to make sure we were happy and ready to go. He brings his own equipment, travels outside of Seattle, and sets up in plenty of time to make sure it goes off without a hitch. If you have a party or a wedding i would highly recommend Jacob. We will definitely higher him again!!!!!!!!!!! read more

He met every question and concern that we had for the night and was an integral part of making our wedding night perfect. Jacob was my DJ for my wedding in June, 2014. I had contacted him over a year before, based on reviews I had read. He was professional from the beginning, and met with my then fiance and I to go over what we were looking for. He had a questionnaire that was extensive, but helpful for us to communicate what we did or didn't want. He checked in about a month before, and was open to any last minute song suggestions. On the day of our wedding, he came early to check out the space. He had offered to bring a small speaker to have at our small ceremony before the reception. He was friendly to guests, and truly professional the entire evening. I really can't articulate enough how great he was! He played the songs we requested, and even stayed a couple of hours late because there were a few of us remaining on the dance floor! I highly recommend Black Magic DJ. Jacob remains calm and collected on a busy day which is very helpful. He feels like one of your guests and really aims to please. He even threw in a couple of extra songs he knew my dad liked! Jake of Black Magic was our DJ just this past weekend. We had a Downton Abbey themed wedding and he rocked it. My husband and I chose Jake for the following reasons: 1) Jake is a musician - not just a commercialized DJ doing cookie cutter weddings and trying to squeeze every cent out of you 2) Jake offered a flat rate for us - no hassle. Many DJs we met try to get creative with how they take money from us. Jake didn't do any of that - he kept it simple and classy. 3) Jake had a great attitude throughout since the first meeting to the day of the wedding 4) Jake understands music - we literally told him we need "1920's music", he picked the playlist and not only wowed us but we had a lot of feedback from our guests how great the music was. Jake was able to tell us what will "actually" work for the wedding (sometimes what you think works in your head isn't the same thing as what actually works). 5) Jake was NOT cheesy - he kept the DJ talking low key, laid back, quite frankly pretty swank. 6) Jake is flexible - instead of filling out his questionnaire we gave him an excel spreadsheet and he rolled with it. 7) Jake is professional and PUNCTUAL - he arrived early on the day of to set up and didn't mind meeting us few weeks in advance to go over his equipment and lighting set up. Jake did up-lighting for us and it was exceptional - created the "English Dinner" setting/mood that we wanted. 8) Jake is also pretty good looking and really tall - added class to our wedding :) I had a lot of questions coming from female guests about him. I've had the pleasure of witnessing Jacob's DJ services for three separate wedding occasions including my own. Jacob, without a doubt, is the guy you'll want for any event with music. I can't recommend him enough. When I first heard him, he played a set of 1920s music, then progressed to 1950s jazz standards, and then smoothly transitioned to hip-hop. The second event was a mix of 80s and 90s classics, trip-hop, and electronica. Our event had an eclectic set of modern indie alt, classics, cultural, ambient, and even video game music. Without further ado, here's a list of PROS: - High-quality equipment, knowledge & adaptability to room acoustics - Large collection of music and accessibility to basically any custom song requests - Restraint from hamming it up like dozens of other "salesmen" MCs, but able to abide by a timeline and keep the event rolling with hints of humor - An experienced musician and educator, which translates into someone who knows how to actually transition between song tempos and styles - Responsive, attentive, and just all out professional - A modern website CONS: None As an extremely snobby musician myself (read: elitist), I've been to many an event where I've rolled my eyeballs at the DJ, with their predictable music selection and inability to read the crowd. If you want to impress your friends, family, or strangers, do the right thing and go with Black Magic DJ. (Or don't, so we can have him available to ourselves more often!) read more

Jake was our DJ this past weekend at our wedding at the Fremont Abbey Arts Center and he was fantastic! He has a true appreciation for music and understands that the music at a wedding has to fit the couple. He was more than willing to find and play all of the random music selections I had requested in my overly controlling spreadsheet :) No typical DJ cheese, no music we didn't want, really fair flat rate fee and super friendly personality. We hired him on a friend's recommendation and couldn't be happier with our decision. Jacob was awesome! He was professional and humorous. He was able to read the crowd and keep people on the dance floor. The only issue we had was music volume during dinner and that's because someone kept telling him to turn it down. The other half of the room wasn't able to hear anything. If I were to do this again, I would have the speakers on each side of the head table so both sides of the room can hear everything clearly without becoming deaf. Best. Wedding. DJ. EVAR! Ok, so I've only been married once, but I have been to a lot of weddings, and Jacob was top of the class. Was extremely professional when I contacted him about DJing my wedding (and let's you pay with PayPal!). I felt his pre-wedding form really allowed me to show the music I liked (and I have some odd tastes) and disliked... Respectful and unassuming at the actual reception (unlike in-your-face-kind of DJs). The kind of guy you want to grab a beer with. Best part though was the selection of music. Picked the right kind of jazz and such for dinner, then once the dancing started the hits kept coming. And by hits, I mean good music that's fun to dance to, and not poppy stuff that makes me want to turn the channel. He knew how to read my tastes, and that of the crowd, and really kept it going with GOOD music. Made the reception into a great party, which is exactly what we wanted. Jacob was such a pleasure to work with.... Jacob really just let my husband and I do what we came there to do: get married and have a GREAT time. He was very professional and made sure he knew what we wanted, what we didn't want and what he needed to do to make sure things ran smoothly. Out of all our vendors, Jacob was the most self sufficient and knew what he needed to do and how to do it. Our wedding events took place in three different rooms and he had music, and sound ready and prepped for all three spaces.
