As Americans visiting Barcelona we loved this brew house! Although the menu seems more on the American side the food still has its own more authentic flavor. Definitely recommend! Someone with me got the buffalo wings and said they were the best he's ever had. We also had the classic burger, pulled pork, and beer can chicken and they were all delicious! BlackLab is like a little oasis for English-speaking beer and lounge lovers in the heart of Barcelona right by the harbor. It is still fairly new and only brews two beers at the moment: the amber rye and dry stout. The owner graciously let us sample both at the bar. The dry stout was really bitter for my taste, and the amber rye was more bearable for the non-beer drinker in me. We ended up picking a guest brew on tap though. There's plenty of space to the left and right of the main foyer. They also have a rather diverse menu, ranging from banh mi to your typical sandwiches and salads. I believe the owner, with Asian roots, also used to live in Chicago. The whole place feels neat and hip; I can only see it grow substantially as more and more international travelers and internationally minded locals stream through the area. read more

Had a burger and a beer on a weeknight. Everyone in the place was speaking English! The burger was sub-par...very dry and hard even though ordered medium. The beers were good, not fantastic, but ordered more hops than you can get in most bars with the standard taps. Good service, and English seemed to be the norm. So it's not got any Spanish authenticity, and I wouldn't go for the food, but if you want an American IPA, it's probably the place to go. read more

This was the perfect place for a great inexpensive meal in Barcelona. Of course the beer was worth coming for on it's own, but did not expect how delicious the food. First were the Nachos, big portion with tortilla chips that were home made....my daughters each ordered the Fried Pork Ribs (half portion)....WOW!!! probably the best deal going. Also ordered the Pot Stickers which were good. My wife had the Ox tail soup and absolutely loved it. I ordered the Chicken Sandwich...the only disappointment of the night. Just a thin piece of chicken on a lot of bread. Should have ordered one of their burgers 'cause the table next to us ordered one and it was big and juicy looking (especially compared to my scrawny yardbird). Ugh. As a beer nerd, I had really high hopes for Black Lab, but the beer is simply not good. The worst was the Berliner, which had a decent salty, sour taste that was completely overpowered by the smell of mildew rags coming off the beer. This, according to the bartender, is the intended taste profile for the beer. The brut IPA is passable but overall so disappointing. read more

Very convenient near the Barceloneta metro. I came here with my Local friend, and we ordered the namesake burger, which was tender and delicious, worthy of burger eaters anywhere. They also had some great home-brewed beers and a good beer cocktail selection. My friend had the Smoking Hops and thoroughly enjoyed it. Great brewpub, we stopped by around lunchtime on a Saturday so the place was not crowded. Even though, all sports on all screens in all rooms. Which is kind of a let down for me. We sat at the bar and chatted with the owner who was helpful and fun to chat with. Their Claudia IPA is really good and they have a special jalapeño sour that was really unique and good. One of our favorite beer pubs in Barcelona! It has a great selection of local beers and an American/Asian menu. If you want cheap Estrella go someplace else as these are craft beers and cost a little more. They are worth the little extra few euros. But if you want a deal go during happy hour Monday-Thursday. They also have live music on the weekends. The large terrace is sure to be a hit this summer. They have an easy to find location right at the corner of Barceloneta. read more

If you're missing American cuisine and good craft beer this place is for you. I was missing good beer in particular and found black dog - the "Claudia" was my favorite, sold as a light hop IPA with fruit notes which was indeed accurate. Wasn't exactly the New England style IPAs I enjoy but close enough. Food was decent fair, close to American with Philly cheese steak and burgers. My chicken sandwich was spot on. Very yummy American food! We happened to be walking by and saw someone with their nachos (not on the menu because it's so new). We thought we would just start with that and a few drinks but ended up staying for dinner too! Nachos were DELICIOUS!! Our favorite of the whole night. We came during #blackhour so my boyfriend had a beer for a euro off and he had the straight up burger (with homemade ketchup and fries), juicy and delicious! I ordered the meat and veggie dumplings (under dim sum) but really are just potstickers! We shared a bottle of 13€ wine, wasn't bad! Total bill was less than 40€. Very relaxed/cool vibe to the restaurant, free wifi and was pretty crowded but don't worry there is lots of seating available! Everything on the waterfront was overpriced, so we were attracted to the moderate prices and decent reviews at Black Lab. It was a bit of a let down, but I'd still recommend it for a quick and decent bite in this part of town. We had the Classic Cheeseburger, Black Lab Fries and Fried Eggplant. The fries were piping hot and very tasty - the highlight of the meal. They are the potato wedge type and came with some interesting dipping sauces. The eggplant was in strips rather than the typical disks, and drizzled with honey. Batter was not too heavy, so they were pretty good. The biggest disappointment was the burger, since it seemed to be their specialty. It was very thick, but they didn't ask how I wanted it cooked, and it was overdone. It was obviously a frozen patty and was a bit chewy. The pretzel roll was good, but it was hard to keep the whole thing from sliding apart. They do have a wide selection of brewed-on-the-premises beers. I had the white stout and it was very good. Overall, if you want some good craft beer and snacks, you'll enjoy this place. If you also want a mediocre burger to go with it, go for it. If you're in the mood for a great burger, I think you'll be disappointed. read more

I went here for a break from doing some work, and that was the best decision I've made all week! This place is so fun, the bartender (Chris) was so nice, and the beer was great. I don't usually go back to the same place when I'm visiting somewhere, but I will definitely be back here before I leave Barcelona. They have some really interesting beers, including a Japanese-flavored beer made with sriracha and Japanese flowers. I went with a really good ipa. Probably the worst burger I've ever had in my life. My husband hated his as well. Fries were good. Beer was okay (not a huge selection of craft beer), nachos had cheese whiz (or equivalent) and pizza tasted like frozen and barely edible. Not sure how you can screw up a burger, but they did. Should have paid more attention to the negative reviews. Would have given it half a star if I could. Obviously the good ones were from friends of the owner. We've been traveling for 2 weeks and this was our worst experience by far. Our server was compassionate and accommodating; the woman who was wearing the "boss" shirt was condescending and downright rude. She said she was giving us a discount due to our bad experience. Maybe because we are from the US, we'd expected the burgers to be taken off the bill. Nope. Took only 2 euros off. Considering they were 7,50 euros each, two dollars off was insulting. Stay far away from this place. If you want burgers, save your money and go to Burger King or McDonald's. read more

We stumbled on it on a work trip and used it frequently as it provided multiple top-quality alternatives to the otherwise ubiquitous Bud Light-esque local beers. We went for the beer, as we needed a break from all the walking. My friend and I each got a nice beer flight which cost 8 euros. The beers were pretty good! We also had a side of fries with aioli sauce to hold us over after having an early lunch and they weren't great.... Not sure how the other food is ... but being that I'm from the US...
