Across the room is a cozy fireplace, perfect for this snowy night! Flute and guitar fill the air with love songs, perfect for this Valentine's dinner. This is our second dinner here, the first being outside, with a band and friends in early summer. Everything was delicious, and we vowed to return soon, and then, you know, covid happened.) We eagerly dived in to our pre-dinner - huge wedge salad for me and homemade potstickers for my spouse, served in a cute Chinese take-out box, 6 homemade crispy, savory pork and veggie morsels with two dipping sauces, Bistro ponzu and a very spicy Sriracha-type sauce. The salad uniquely had picked red onion in addition to chunks of blue cheese and bacon, sweet cherry tomatoes, and a huge wedge of crispy iceberg. I ordered the Sicilian Pork Chops asking what the Agrodolche Sauce is and when I heard "an herb sauce," in my mind I pictured a rich pan-dripping sauce with butter, maybe cream, enhanced with fresh herbs. Instead it was a tangy, slightly sweet, stringent sauce with rosemary and capers. I should have googled it. I should have ordered the tender Greek lamb shanks I had last time I visited this past summer, too, because those chops (2) were tough.* Lesson learned. Hubby had the Beef Tenderloin tips which were fork tender but not out of the ordinary, again because of the sauce which was more like gravy and lacked richness. But! Redemption lay in three things! Dessert was a AMAZING, meltingly delicious tiramasu, artfully presented with a little square wafer cookie nestled in the whipped cream, 3 chocolate covered coffee beans (where have those been all my life?!?), and a generous drizzle of chocolate. We were so excited we forgot to photo it! Second, our sweet waitress Abby presented us with a long-stemmed red rose and a heart-shaped box of chocolates! THAT'S never happened to us on Valentine's before at a restaurant! And third, the staff here is so friendly, so gracious, and so attentive! This small, log cabin-themed restaurant is cozy and warm and feels like home. In the summer the outdoor patio is wonderful! Come enjoy their hospitality! I have always wanted to try cheese wheel pasta since the first time I knew that it was a thing. I've looked for restaurants that do it, but have never had the opportunity to go to one. Needless to say, I was very excited when I found out that Black Forest Bistro has a cheese wheel experience. I looked on their website to find out more and to make a reservation. I have a couple complaints about that- and they are the reason this review is 4 stars and not 5. First of all, the cheese wheel pasta experience is not clearly listed on their website. When you look at the menu, it just has their regular menu. So, I had no idea how much the meal was going to cost. Second, is their reservation system. My boyfriend and I were pretty excited about it and decided to make reservations for an upcoming weekend. I put in the request and I got an automated response that they would review the request and get back to me. That first time probably took about 24 hours or so. Unfortunately, they were completely booked. Disappointing , but as we were less than a week out, not totally surprising. So, my boyfriend and I chose another date, about 6 weeks out when we could go. I put in the reservation right away. I did not get confirmation for the Saturday reservation until the Tuesday before. It's pretty frustrating to have that planned and not know if the reservation is confirmed for weeks - especially because this is such a popular place with limited seating. Now, for the actual experience. We got there about 5-10 minutes before our reservation time and were seated right away. It was a bit loud, but not overwhelming so. Everyone in the restaurant seemed to be enjoying themselves. They had the cheese wheel pasta menu with all the add ons. They ranged from lobster to sausage to chicken to mushrooms all at various price points. The waitress came by and took our order. We had to wait about 20 minutes before the cheese wheel got to us. Not bad considering that it is made table side. When the cheese wheel got to us, the server brought out our meat and garlic bread. They make the pasta right there at your table and serve it piping hot. It was delicious. Cheesy as one would expect. Easily one of the best pastas I've ever had. The chicken I had was grilled perfectly and added a nice touch to the pasta. And the garlic bread? Let me just say if you go, get the garlic bread. It was so good! Toasted perfectly with what tasted like homemade garlic butter. It was a bit on the pricey side ($25 per person for the pasta, plus add ons and wine/cocktails if you choose). But it was worth it. My husband and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at BF Bistro this evening. We enjoyed fantastic service throughout, including the hostess, bartender, waitress and busboy. Everyone was kind and attentive. I had noted our anniversary in our reservation and we were pleasantly surprised by a signed card and desserts. We specifically came for the cheese wheel experience and truly enjoyed the food. Black Forest Bistro is a tucked away find dining experience. We will definitely be back! read more

My wife and I went for a Valentine's Day dinner and had a great time. The service was friendly and welcoming. There was live music, which has been a staple each time we have been there before. We tried the bacon and bleu cheese flatbread which was great! My wife does not care for bleu cheese and even she thought it was very good due to having plenty of other flavors to go with it. I had the maple bacon old fashioned and she had a glass of wine to go with our meals. Her Tuscan gnocchi was exactly what she wanted on a cold evening and I had the Chilean Sea Bass special that was served with mushroom raviolis. To finish dinner we had the chocolate crème brûlée which was perfect to share. This is becoming one of our go-to restaurants when we want to go out as a couple and leave the kids behind. Unfortunately I was not as impressed as others here. The wait for food and service was long, had a reservation. The food was good, but nothing that special for the wait and price. The location is very small so the noise level inside is high so much so you can't really enjoy the love music. I do not believe the special dessert offered was homemade, it was a waffle and the waffle I think is one you can buy packaged, I think the apples on top were probably canned. Not what I'm looking for in a dining experience, don't think I'll be back. Enjoyed my watermelon mule and smoky old fashioned though! And my kid loved the potstickers! read more

Man, I just don't know what to say. We've tried this place three times, and because of all the positive press lately, we were willing to try the third thinking that the issues the first two times were a fluke. But, it just wasn't. Long wait times and inattentive servers were aggravating, but the biggest issue is just the quality control. When a butter board comes out with ice cold, tough sliced bread that tastes like it came straight from a grocery store, and then your bao buns are tough on the outside and freezing cold inside, there's an issue. I will say that staff was very apologetic and kind. But looking around, this didn't seem unusual. Families getting desserts to go in hopes that it would speed things up, entrées were taking a very long time, lots of apologizing was heard from staff. Especially with charging $40+ per plate, I'm truly confused as to how this place gets the positive press they've been getting. We left, went to Back East Bar and Grill, and had a pizza. Such an incredible place to dine. Wonderfully caring, friendly, efficient staff. Excellent service, and absolutely STUNNING entrees! The fare is unique, but not weird or forced. The flavors of each item on a plate compliment instead of competing. Everything was cooked and served hot & fresh. The skill, pride, and joy of the whole team was obvious, and so much appreciated. A special shout out for the bar tender, putting her own fantastic spin on some old classic drinks, and making us feel so welcome here. I came for NYE based on some recommendations from the COS foodie board on Facebook and was not disappointed. Based on first impressions, I was shocked to see the food and drinks that came out of this place because the ambiance has a total breakfast diner vibe. Cocktails here were great the smoked old-fashioned was top-notch. Appetizers had a bit of everything from poki nachos to burrata bruschetta all of which were great. For dinner, I had their lamb which was probably the best I have had since moving here. Was fall of the bone good. What I really like about this place is they also rotate the menu so every time you go you in for something new. read more

It's a shame what has happened to this restaurant. My husband and I went there tonight for a Birthday celebration. Pretty bad when we had to get up and leave before we were even served dinner. Came home and ate a bowl of Cheerios. We had reservations at 5:30. We were seated at 5:20 and our waitress was quick to come over and take our drink order along with our Lobster Tostada appetizer. The drinks were delicious !! No complaints. The appetizer came super fast and was very good. Here's where the night fell apart. We watched our waitress check in with several tables around us, as we sat there for over an hour without so much as a "can I get you guys anything". Same as the table next to us. We had to ask the busboys to place another order from the bar because our waitress would avoid any contact. We watched as customers who came in after us seated with another waitress received their dinners as we waited. When we decided to leave - the manager said he would comp a portion of the drinks and the appetizer. He asked if we wanted to take the dinners to go, but after checking with the kitchen, our orders had not even been put in yet. It is a shame when the service is so poor that it effects the reviews of a restaurant with food that doesn't deserve the bad ratings. Management really needs to take this into consideration before they lose more customers read more

A micro-sized town is hiding a gem of a restaurant. The hostess is a delight. Her enthusiasm is contagious. The servers are authentic. It's not fake conversation. All of the staff jumps in and helps do everything. The bartender (who is a true artist) actually serves food when it is needed and he is available. This is a true team!! And the food is impossibly good. This is not a "hole in the wall" place in a small town. This is a bistro, with live music, food that is wonderful, and service that can't be beat. read more

What a gem! I haven't had the opportunity to Yelp for quite sometime, mostly because I've been to so few places worthy of a good review! But tonight was special. This is a true 5 star place. I loved everything! The appetizer, poke nacho, was incredible. I then ordered the lobster ravioli to share with the table. Again, wonderfully tasty. For my entree I had the Mahi special that was perfectly cooked, seasoned and paired with noodles. My only frustration is I'm not from the area, but if I was this would be a regular stop. And I'd be remiss not to mention the service was friendly and attentive. Way to go chef Deanna, and Black Forest Bistro team. I salute you! read more

Honestly I had high expectations and they were not met. My fiancé and I both got pasta dishes (he got a pesto one and I got a creamy mushroom one) neither were very good and the wait for our food was very long. Very disappointed...First, let me say the food here is very good for the most part, as we have visited a few times. Unfortunately, the service is sporadic and poor at times. We had a 7:30 reservation which we arrived on time. When the server came to our table she wanted to take our drink order and food order, after we had been there a few minutes. (Dennys?). We chose to just order our wine and have a glass, before ordering. It wasn't like anyone was waiting on us, there were other empty tables in the restaurant. Perhaps we are different from the norm, but when paying $200 for dinner on a date night we like to take our time, talk, enjoy the wine and food leisurely. This rush continued as she returned throughout the meal clearing dishes etc. The kicker came at 8:30, 1 hour into the meal. I was done with my entree but my wife was still finishing hers. The server returned and asked my wife if she would like a box, for her remaining food, while she was still eating! Then she said if we wanted dessert we needed to order it now, as the dessert "chef" was 17 years old and had to go home, because he couldn't work past 8:30. As we left, at 8:45, all the employees were sitting around the bar having a good time.... Why the rush?!? The restaurant has been good in the past, but clearly now is living off their previous reputation. Fine dining prices, but not close to a fine dining experience. Came to BFB last year on our anniversary snd the food and service was fabulous. We decided to come again on our 33rd anniversary and so disappointed this time. We really don't spend this kind of money often do you want the experience and the food to be great. I ordered the same shrimp and grits that I had last year except they were the Mexican version. Sounded wonderful. The shrimp was over cooked and tough. Hot sauce drowned out the taste of everything. Couldn't taste the grits at all. My husbands salmon was good though but not a stand out. There were screaming kids and babies the whole time we were there. Music was good but too loud for the room and we had to yell over it to talk. The service was slow but our waitress was great. Really was looking forward to this dinner it just wasn't there for us. read more

We had a gift card that we have been waiting to use so we were excited to try a new restaurant. The door was locked at 5:00 ( our reservation time) we finally got in at 5:10 to be told they were out of menus. We did not have a waitress for at least 15 minutes and when we did finally order, we waited 45 minutes for our cold food. We waited so long for our check we had to ask the hostess for help. When our waitress finally brought the check she said she forgot our wine so " don't worry " she did not add it on the check. (well, that is nice of her!! ) seems like a simple apology would have been appropriate. She then proceeded to tell me that her tip should NOT be on the gift card amount but rather the entire bill. I would NOT recommend a hundred plus dollar meal, no menus, cold dinner, no wine, the dinner took over two hours along and three couples left mad around us for the terrible service. Save yourself a headache and go to an enjoyable dinner elsewhere. read more

I really want to like this place more, we will probably go back, I hope it is better the next time but doubtful. The food was good but small portions and expensive. The service was absolutely horrible. Our waitress was a little odd, but that's ok. We waited for what seemed like for ever for our first drinks, the we got our appetizer, it was calamari with cocktail sauce, my wife hates cocktail sauce so we ask for something else, just ranch or something. Once again a forever wait, by the time she got back with the sauce our calamari was cold. We ordered another round of drinks before our food came out. We ate out meals and sat for 10 min before our second round of drinks came out. The waitress tried to make a funny comment that we ate fast, I just told her we ordered our drinks over 30 minutes ago. The manager or owner came out with our check, took the second round off and apologized. Kinda too little too late in my book. The icing on the cake was they make you pay on a tablet with the waitress right there, there are only 20%, 25% and 30% tip options. I almost told the waitress I wanted to tip less but it was already such a scene with the manager there I just clicked 20% and we left. Also, their cocktails were good but, very expensive, $12 for a Makers Mark Old Fashion, they only have a couple beer options and a small, very bad wine list. The sell a bottle of Moscata Cabernet for $40, you can buy it for $12 at Total Wine. That was about the nicest wine they had. I just think when you are paying $40 for your main plate some descent wine would be nice. If they are trying to play the cheap wine is good too then don't mark it up so much or get some wines not readily available at the local liquor store. Ugh...I wish it was a better experience cause it's a neat place right by our house. I think we would have been better off getting a Subway and drinking beers at Black Forest Brewing. read more

Had a great early Valentines Dinner. First time here. My wife had a Jack Frost drink and I had the Chili flavored margarita. Both had great flavor. We had a bacon flavored flatbread as an appetizer and it was outstanding. Also had an app of Brussel sprouts. We shared the blackened mahi-mahi which was was cooked perfectly. It had a little kick of spice but was not overwhelming. Staff was great and friendly. They gave us a rose and box of candy at the end of the evening. The only and I mean only recommendation I would have is to dim the lights some. It was a little too bright, especially on a romantic night. We will return to this place though! read more

Be careful when ordering gluten free options. My girlfriend ordered a dish that said gluten free and she very quickly knew something was off after she started eating it. She thought the noodles were just gluten free but thankfully we asked and were told it was not gluten free. The menu changes weekly so whoever adjusts and edits the menu really needs to pay attention when they are adding/editing gluten free meals. Luckily it wasn't worse but if someone who was celiac had this happen, it would be a different story. The waitress was very nice and apologetic and it wasn't her fault, she was awesome and comped the meal. I will most likely not be going back for this reason and it was very expensive for slightly average food. read more
