I have eaten Black Bean BBQ a couple of times now and both times I was absolutely blown away. The meats, the sides, absolute perfection. The service was very friendly and inviting. I was only able to experience them at a couple of events. Black Bean BBQ had a very pleasant spread, catering style which was set up outside at a local Santa Rosa venue which is now defunct. The mood was set with the aroma of amazing steam and the warmth of what I was being fed. Both times I ate Black Bean, it left me wanting more. There's not alot of BBQ joints around Sonoma County and most are unmemorable. The food that Kathryn Miskelly served up was more than enjoyable. Black Bean BBQ catered our employee Xmas party last night and they did not disappoint. There were about 60 people in all the interaction/ service was seamless. More importantly, the food was killer. Brisket, chicken, ribs, salad, mac and potato salad. Everyone was impressed. Not to mention that the owner Katheryn is a pleasure to deal with as was her partner. BB BBQ served my Lions District Meeting Group on Saturday - 40 people and everyone commented how great their beans tasted! We kept within our budget as well. it was a simple drop off where they set up in another room and we're transparent to the meeting participants. We enjoyed a preset variety of BBQ Chicken, beans, tater salad, dessert (cookies and brownies), Veggie Wrap, and Roast Beef Wrap. Dear Black Bean Barbecue, You made our wedding a success. That's it, I have to say it flat out, the food made the wedding. I don't know how else I could put it. You would think that as the Groom I would be walking around talking with all my new family about a variety of topics, memories, experiences, well wishes; and yeah, those all happened. But if I had to put my finger on it, the vast majority of conversations went something like this: "Dustin! Congratulations! This brisket is unreal!!!!"...."Congratulations you guys! Why can't all weddings have this brisket??". I can't disagree either, this is clearly and irrefutably the best brisket I've ever had. No, the single best smoked meat I've ever had, and I've had [more than] my fair share of good pit barbecue being a chef for over ten years. My vegan sister even ate it, all of it, and seconds. You can't question results like that. With all that said, all the food was incredible, high quality, fresh, and quickly and expertly handled by Black Bean's catering team. They were extremely courteous, enthusiastic, professional, and just fantastic. I must also speak to the ease of working with the owner Jim. He made the terror that is booking catering [one of the most expensive parts of a wedding or other event] simple and stressless. Yes, stressless. That's not easy to do, nearly a herculean feat when it came to me and my now wife. I want everyone reading this to take a few special considerations here when reading this and other reviews on this page. One, look at the 3/4 $ sign on the price guide for this Yelp page and disregard it. Seriously, completely ignore it's statement. Jim and Black Bean BBQ really are the cheapest way to feed 50+ people, and not by a small margin. If you are considering being an awesome host and giving your guests the best barbecue they have ever had, do yourself a favor and let Jim give you a quote. You will not be disappointed. Two, Jim was by far the most flexible vendor we were in communication with. We changed our guest count, plans, menu, and dinner times a minimum of ten times; all within one to two weeks of the event. He handled this all without hesitation or hiccups. Like I said, simple and stressless. Needless to say, we enjoyed Black Bean Barbecue. They were catering a private event at a winery which we were not part of. Some time after the private party ended they had cleaned up and were leaving as they turned the corner we waived them down and offered to buy what he had left. He and his staff were wonderful. I hired Jim to cater my wedding on 6/21/14 and the food blew me away! Hands down the best bbq I have had in a LONG time. We had chicken, ribs, and brisket. My 1.5 year old daughter refuses to eat meat but she just could not get enough of the chicken. And the brisket was AMAZING. I promised myself I would only write positive reviews on Yelp but I feel others need to know this. I have had the food from Black Bean BBQ on a couple occasions and loved it both times. His hospitality and his staff have been equally amazing. And it really is the best Brisket i've ever had. That being said... My fiance and I wanted to book them for our wedding this year because we trusted the food and we knew the set up would work for us. We got a hold of Jim with an email through the website and let him know the details of the wedding . We got a hold of him on 11/7/2017 on the phone and It really helped to hash out some details with him with something other than text or email. He was even willing to, "Learn at our expense", side items that he didn't have on his web page, like roasted veggies and such. We felt fine with his adventurous attitude since we knew he could knock anything out of the park. The problem though, started when we had already sent all the info he needed (guest count, menu items, date, time etc.) to make a quote for the wedding. Today is 1/17 and the last I have heard from Jim was an email on 11/20 when he asked for details about the wedding that I had already sent him. As of writing this post and after voicemail's and emails I have yet to hear back from him since that date. This has been really disheartening since we wanted this food for our friends and family but that type of lack of communication is far too unnerving for planning a wedding. Though I did mark this as a 2* review I still highly recommend the food and service Jim provides. This is about my personal experience and I wanted to put it out there to any would-be customer that communication is key and I hope they don't have the same problem we had. I hired jim pretty last minute when our bbq guy last minute cancled. We had a wine run at gracianna winery with my husband's car club nor cal st and I was in a bind, jim and his helper (so sorry bad with names) were there to save the day. They were so nice and accommodating. The brisket was AMAZING! And after talking with them I found out the meat they use is grass fed and comes from a humane farm! Super bonus.
