I live in San Ramon and I met my girlfriend who was in town at the BJ's in San Mateo. I was happy she selected BJ's because they usually have good food and decent service the many times I've been to restaurants near where I live. I did not have a good dining experience today because I had problems with my food and my server. Food: I had the pizza and salad $13 meal. I asked for my pizza to be crispy not doughy on the bottom, but not burnt. My server brought out the first pizza and it looked burnt, so I sent it back to remake it. My second pizza was also overcooked (see photo) but I ate half of it and brought the second half home, though I don't plan to eat it because it's overcooked. The server also brought the pizza whole and it wasn't sliced, so I sent it back to be sliced. I asked my server for iced tea with ice, lemon, and simple syrup from the bar instead of sugar to sweeten it. My iced tea had a few ice cubes in it, so it wasn't cold and he gave me about a tablespoon of simple syrup and I had to ask him for more to sweeten my iced tea. In general, he seemed like he didn't know what he was doing and definitely needs training so he's a more proficient server. This is only the second time having a bad dining experience at BJ's. On a recent trip back to the Bay Area our family popped into BJs for lunch. It was not that full and service was quick. Though being a brewhouse, it had a pretty decent selection of food options for the kids. My wife had the Sante Fe Salad, I had the Seared Ahi Salad and the girls had the Mini Corn Dogs and Chicken Tenders. I also had the Chocolate Porter (I love dark beers). It's been a while since I've been to BJ's and first time to this location. We had our work holiday luncheon here and it was quite enjoyable. We made reservations and were seated fairly quickly upon arrival. Our waiter was friendly and attentive - checking on us often during our visit. Not at any time did we feel rushed. I cannot eat what I received since it is NOT what I ordered, and therefore I am not confident that it is gluten free. Always a staple go to place for a special occasion because their menu has a variety of foods for everyone! I love their traditional wings with ranch and dressing on the side as an appetizer to share. The spinach dip and chips are good too! If you love deep dish pizza, it's really good there, but just be careful which size you get because it's very filling! They have a good $13 deal Monday through Friday, and I love getting that because it comes with a mini pizookie of your choice! Except it doesn't include the special flavors! I usually get the $13 pasta with chicken and it's so good! They do give you more pasta than chicken but I always just order chicken wings appetizer and still get so full! Would give zero stars if possible.. I recently visited BJ's in San Mateo and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. We came in specifically for the $13 meal deal special, but the service completely ruined the visit. Right after being seated, our waiter seemed impatient and rushed us to decide on drinks--not even a minute had passed before he was already waiting for our order. It made us feel pressured instead of welcomed. Once we placed our order, a food runner brought out the meal, but our waiter never checked on us--not even once. I had to ask the host who originally seated us just to get something as simple as ketchup. After we finished eating, things didn't improve. I sat there watching our waiter casually engage in conversations with other staff members, even making eye contact with me as he walked around the restaurant, yet still ignoring our table. It felt incredibly dismissive. Eventually, I had to wave down a completely different waiter, who thankfully was very kind and respectful, just to get assistance. And we finished off the meal with the Oreo pizookie since on Tuesday it's only $5 for one and it was worth it! After patronizing this location numerous times, I can confidently say that this BJ's has an average rating because their service is kind of sus. When I dine in, I've gotten anywhere from a vaguely cool waiter, to waitresses who were just idiots or mean as hell. When I take out, I've had issues maybe a third of the time ranging from completely missing items to items that weren't in their advertised containers. And if you complain to anyone, no one will care. That being said, I still go here when I stack gift card promotions with daily specials and reward points ($10 credit for every $100 spent). Sometimes there are mailing list offers of $10 off a $40 purchase and other seasonal deals or events. They've got good happy hour offerings and some surprisingly good craft beer and cocktails as well. This BJ's is a bit grimy and dim with a condensed layout in a large space. BJ's (not to be confused with the warehouse) is a brewhouse restaurant from SoCal known for their "California style" deep dish pizza and Pizookies (freshly made "deep dish" cookies or baked dessert on a skillet with ice cream on top). What makes their deep dish pizzas California style? I'm not really sure myself (probably the toppings?), but the bread is thick and fluffy... like focaccia thick with a light fluffy texture. Their flatbread pizzas are cracker-like, so the direct opposite. They do half off pizzas on Mondays. For their other items, I am fond of the slow roasted entrees. Their burgers, pasta, soups, and salads are okay. Their fried chicken and wings aren't too great, and some items come out cold like they've been scooped from an isolated bin. My wife tried the southern fried chicken and I wanted the soups and salads. My wife like the pizza very much and the fried chicken, she said it was so moist and tender unlike any other fried chicken breast dry and tastless. I had a taste and it was very good, the corn and the mash potatoes were very tasty. My caesar salad was cold and seasoning to my liking, the chicken tortilla soup is flavorful just like the soups in good restaurants in Chihuahua and Guadalajara I used to eat. I tried the clam chowder and I was glad it wasn't thick, or watery and rich like some other restaurant. It's just right with some tabasco. There are plenty of clams meat and little pieces of potato. The dessert chocolate chip ice cream on some cake that I can never remember the name was very nice. All included. BJ's has locations everywhere around here, mostly malls & strip malls where lots of people go to shop, eat, drink, and relax. This location at Bridgepointe in San Mateo/Foster City is no exception. Located at a mall, the location is easy to get to, easy to find, and easy to park at. I only started to come here because it is open late (midnight), offers alcohol & appetizers at a bar, and has a decent happy hour menu with decent prices (if you go late). I recently started playing golf after work at a course nearby to here, and I don't have many options to eat or drink after 10pm around here, so I stumbled into BJ's. The restaurant is very big. It is pretty clean. There are a lot of staff, and the menu is pretty extensive. But, I didn't stop by here to eat dinner, just to have some appetizers & beers, so this review is mostly about the happy hour. Typical happy hour, chain-restaurant, bar menu & drinks. Had a couple of Coors Lights and a couple of appetizers. Beer was cold and fresh. We ordered the mozzarella sticks, chips with guacamole & salsa, and fried avocado eggs rolls. None of the dishes particularly stood out in terms of flavor or character, but they were served quickly (and they were cheap). The sauces for each of these dishes were fairly lackluster, although the food itself was decent. Again, nothing groundbreaking here, but still a decent meal & experience. The service was prompt and professional, and much like other chain restaurants that I recently started patronizing, I notice that older staff were really hustling, while the younger ones seemed to be standing around looking at their phones or chatting. Oh well, I guess there's not much motivation to work at the minimum-wage level, so that's how it is. The restaurant was very clean, well-lit, and had a good ambiance. Others were here doing the same, unwinding after work, getting together with friends, and just having a drink or a snack or a date. I wouldn't want to come here during dinner, where it's probably very busy, very loud, very chaotic, and waiting for food & drinks probably takes a lot longer. But for the late-night singles crowd, this was perfect. Open until midnight, last call for food & alcohol at 11:30pm. Nice TV's at the bar, I would probably only ever come to the bar to watch sports or hang out with friends. Next time, I'll try some other dishes or even maybe other beers & cocktails. These types of restaurants exist and are popular mostly for their convenient locations, later-hours, cheaper happy hour prices, bars with tv's for watching sports, appetizers, and speed of service. My experience here tonight was good. Decent food, made better by happy hour pricing, decent drinks, made better by happy hour pricing, and decent service, made better by happy hour pricing. Nothing else around here is open late or near anything like a golf course, movie theater, billiards hall, or other places of entertainment & recreation, so I guess I'll be trying out BJ's competition too: like Lazy Dog, Applebees, Jacks, IHOP, Dennys, Heidi Pies, Chilis, Cheesecake Factory, etc. Being a single nocturnal person on a budget stuck out here in the sleepy suburbs, these seem to be my choices for late night food & drink. They do have a separate room for parties and events which is nice. My wife and I were craving some steaks and something near our hotel which made BJ's a good choice. My prime rib was cooked medium rare and had a good thickness to it. The creamy horseradish was perfect for this! There was enough fat on the side which provided even more flavor. My wife's sirloin steak was a bit too dry; she ordered medium-rare but received more of a well done. It was pretty tough. The mushroom and onion sauce was also too salty for our liking. Our veggies were a bit too salty as well. Their nachos were decent too. I wish the chips were a bit thicker with the toppings being more spread out as oppose to just the top. They need to just improve more with their cooking here and pay more attention to detail and the customers order. The prime rib deal comes with two sides and a pazookie which is an awesome deal for $35! What a great deal! But the prime rib can only be ordered on the weekends. I came here after boycotting the place for several years due to bad service. Wow, things have really improved! Excellent, friendly service and we didn't have to wait too long for the food. Speaking of which, the food has always been consistently good. It's not gourmet, but it is tasty. And I'm happy to see that their menu has healthy options. None of this is reflected on my server, she was super lovely and friendly. That being said; Genuinely one of the worst times I've spent at BJS. Me and my boyfriend both order appetizers, I get the mozzarella sticks and he gets a pretzel. We wait a bit and eventually they come out at the exact same time, yet somehow my mozzarella sticks are freezing cold ( yknow when the cheese is completely hard? ) while he has the most delectable, warm pretzel I've ever tasted. Eventually we get our main food: a plain club sandwich for him and a steak for me. This is the worst steak I've ever gotten. Not only was it slightly above room temp, it was stringy and didn't have a proper sear ( which whatever, but still ) I tried to just choke it out since I didn't want to bug our server but Yeeshh. I can put away a steak easily, I could barely eat a quarter of this one. At one point I took a bite of a fatty part ( which I usually love ) and it almost made me puke. Couldn't finish it at all. Open late! The california chicken club sandwich was pretty good! The bread was nicely garlic-y and buttery. The chicken and bacon were good. Nice creamy sauce, good fresh veggies. Overall tasty! I only feel that it would be even better if it were served on a larger plate, it felt pretty cramped. The fries were good, very crispy and pillowy inside. Don't go here if you're really hungry...my boyfriend and I got seated and watched how long it took for a waitress to notice us and serve us. Took them about an hour. They said that they didn't know we were waiting...like sorry....we haven't even gotten waters yet. This is my review, everyone has their own opinion, this is what happened to me tonight. I wasn't planning to write a review until 2 things happened, I will explain below. This review is based solely on my server EYLA M. We arrived this evening at about 9:30 pm. Everything was fine, we ordered our food I did asked if they have samples of the Mac and Cheese Bites, she said they do not offer samples, except for some Skosh, which is Alcohol and Fries, I mentioned that the server before let us try the Calamari and said if we did not like it just to say it was not good and he could take it off our order he said that his manager approved this we said thank you. We tried it and loved it, we did pay for this if anyone is wondering. She went on to say that the server was not supposed to do that and that the servers can get fired for doing this, she went on to ask who the servers was, I said It was a guy and I forgot his name, but she kept on pushing going on to say if he was there tonight. It's like she was going to get this server in trouble. Which I thought was below her, I don't know if she was trying to get points to become a supervisor or manager. So I went ahead and ordered the unlimited Soup and Salad, got the wedge salad and the Broccoli and cheddar soup. When the food came, I had tried the soup which was supper thick and Rich and a bit Salty. I then asked the server if I could please just get alittle bit of the remaining soup so that I would not waste a whole bowl, she agreed and brought those I tried the Chili and the Tortilla Soup, both of these soups were super salty so I went on to ask if I could please just change my order because these soups were not good. She said to me NO and said that she could not do that because I already ate the Salad and soup. I said I did not eat the soup, after she said this she got the kitchen Manager who then told me there sorry for the what happened and said go ahead and order something else and would not charge me for the next order, I said thank you. I did order something from the same section, which was the meal deal and that was the Chicken Parmigiana, I had told EYLA that the Manager had said he would take the soup and salad off the check. She did not check with the manager about this, she just said NO this is not right and said I would be given a 10 or 20% discount, I was getting the feeling she did not like what was going on because I asked for a manager. She did try to explain that she had to check with her manager to see if that was correct, I then corrected her and said "then why didn't you ask him first instead of saying NO I WOULD NOT BE CREDITED ONLY THE 10 OR 20%". She then proceeded to argue with me, and then I said this is not right And to just cancel my Chicken Parmigiana order. Then the Kitchen manager did tell her that it was not going to be charged. Mind you she's arguing with me and stating the kitchen manager told her he did not say that, I said your mistaken my Son even heard him, he was probably trying to save the situation because EYLA M. was probably arguing with him as well. She then left, and the General Manager of the restaurant came to our table and asked what had happened, I did explain to him what happened. He then check the bill and made sure it was corrected. My son continued to finished his food and when he was done we asked for the check. When she came back and tried to justify what she had said I told her for our benefit can you just leave I don't want to talk about it anymore. She still stayed and tried to get the last words in and said I always check to make sure everything is good, I then said "could you please leave and that I did not want to argue with her". When she came back she said here is your bill. When I looked at the bill, everything was charged and that there was no credit. I then called for the General Manager and said this is what I mean, why is she just giving me a hard time, I then asked him to confirm the name to me and he did. She did come back and I told her why did you give this bill to me? Did you not read it? You said you always want to make everything good, but you didn't even have the decency to read the receipt???? In my mind I am thinking she just wanted to get me more upset. She then said "oh, this is an old check. Then why did you not read it..............? My son went ahead and paid the bill, I did tell him to tip her for what he got, which he did. I don't know if this will change anything, but for me, I would have EYLA M. Go through some training with regard to customer service, so that she can better handle all kinds of personalities and make all her customers feel good. I normally don't write long reviews, but this one warranted me to do this. I even did this review when I got home after this visit to BJ's, so as to not forget what happened. We visited on a Monday for lunch and it feels like the restaurant has given up. I arrived at 11:45 am and stood at the hostess counter for more than 5 minutes. No one greeted me or acknowledged me even though several staff made eye contact. My colleague finally waved someone down and it took a few more minutes for them to prepare a table to seat us. On the bright side, BJ's offers many great deals. We were able to order a large pizza for 50% off because it was Monday. There were also $13 specials. The restaurant is definitely quiet on Monday. We crowd was mellow and service was quick. I suspect they really cater to the dinner crowd. read more

Food is mediocre (one step up from fast food). Customer service is awful. I ordered delivery for the 2nd time, both times the order was wrong. This time I called and sat on hold for a long time. Finally, after a discussion, I was transferred (on hold again) and got the manager. The manager asked many questions and put me on hold again. Eventually he said, okay I'll tell the kitchen. I said I want a refund for the wrong item. Oh, no can't do that, but will sent a $15 gift certificate. Needless to say, never sent it. My friends and I come here for their Tuesday deal--$5 pazookies (large cookies w/ ice cream). This location stays open pretty late, so it's not too crowded after 10pm. If you're looking for something to snack on, I get the $18 chicken nacho appetizers to share; decent portion for 3 people. I'm personally not a huge fan of their pazookies, but my friends love their Oreo one. The staff can be a hit or miss; sometimes they're quick and other times you have to ask multiple times for things. The last time I went, the staff forgot to put the Oreo frosting topping on their pazookie (the only thing that makes an it an Oreo pazookie and not just a regular cookie). read more

The restaurant here was very clean and spacious. It was very warm and welcoming. The service was very good and helpful. We loved their cocktails like a grey goose martini. It was made very well. The appetizers here were fabulous especially the buffalo wings with ranch. They also have fun desserts. read more

Absolutely the best food ever would recommend mini burger, just the meat patty and fries. We had an amazing waiter, definitely would come again. (the name of our waiter is Adrian, best waiter in the world.) would put 6 stars, but five is good enough. read more

I was visiting my family from out of state and stopped by BJ's to grab some food. I had a great experience. My waitress Leslie was amazing. She was handling a lot of tables by herself and she was still very attentive and friendly. Leslie checked in periodically to make sure that I had everything I needed. She did not forget me. The food was also good. I will definitely go back. read more
