Let me set the scene for you. I am seated and patiently awaiting my food. All of a sudden, a black streak crosses my vision. Then another! Then another! I start to panic. I cry out "WHO GOES THERE". And then I heard it... "not I" said the fly. Me: "Oh ok... wait a damn minute you are a fly and you do go there! Shoo! Shoo! You pesty insect!!" Anyways the flies are still here. My family is always on the lookout for new places to eat, so when we were out for a family night at the Summit Mall in Fairlawn, Ohio, we decided to give BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse a try. It ended up being such a pleasant surprise. We all went for the $13 Pizookie Meal Deal, which felt like a great value--an entrée plus a personal Pizookie dessert. If you've never had one, a Pizookie is basically a warm, gooey cookie cake with ice cream on top, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. My wife, my son, and I all ordered the All American Smash Burger. The two smashed patties, the melted American cheese, the signature sauce--it all came together so well, and the fries hit the spot. My daughter went a different route and got the Southern Fried Chicken, and she couldn't stop talking about how good it was. The pepper cream gravy and the corn and red pepper succotash really added something special. Not only was the food delicious, but our server was genuinely kind and attentive. Little things--like checking in at the right times and making sure we had everything we needed--made the meal feel even more enjoyable. The atmosphere was comfortable too: lively enough to feel fun, but not so loud that we couldn't talk and enjoy each other's company. Overall, our visit to BJ's turned into one of those unexpectedly great family meals. Went around 5pm with my family on a Thursday. Hardly anyone in. Got seated quickly and our server was super attentive and ensured our glasses stayed full. I got the Thursday rib dinner and the ribs were not tender, they had a lot of sauce which helped but sub par. Rice pilaf was subpar as well. Brussels sprouts were good. All other food was okay. Our server was slow, but the kitchen failed. The kitchen forgot to cook the clam chowder . So my husband had to get the broccoli cheddar soup. He ordered the Tri-Tip steak and asparagus. He said it had a terrible taste .we arrived at 5:30. A hour after 4 pm there was no prime rib. ( called ahead to make sure they had it available). One of our party ordered the wedge salad. The wedge was rotten. I was served rotten lemon slices. I ordered the ribeye medium well & was served it medium rare. There was a leaf in my broccoli. We've been dining at this restaurant for years. On each visit, we've had great service and great food. Getting seated usually takes about 10 minutes, but we feel it is worth it. They don't do call ahead seating. On my most recent visit, I had a bread bowl of broccoli and cheddar soup, which was very tasty. For dessert, I had a pizzookie for the first time. They're kind of known for them, so I went with the brownie, hot fudge, and vanilla ice cream variety. It was very good and I'm glad I requested it. Our server was fast and friendly. We went to BJ's Brewhouse for my friend's birthday, and overall, it was a nice experience. The menu has a great variety of options, which I appreciate, and everything we ordered was tasty. My friend and I split the chili flake potstickers and shared the prime rib with loaded mashed potatoes and broccoli. The pan-seared potstickers were a good choice--the chili flake sauce had great flavor, and I liked the little crunchy noodles. The prime rib was solid, but the loaded mashed potatoes were definitely the standout for me. Our waitress was on top of everything and did a great job. My husband and I were there Saturday afternoon. We sat at the bar which only one other person was sitting. The bartender took longer than necessary to get our drink order. We ordered the club sandwich requested sauce on the side. The food took over 1/2 hour. Sauce was on the sandwich Fries were cold. After our first drink we had to ask for another and he wasn't refilling my water. I asked twice for that. He wasn't busy except to visit with the woman at the end of the bar. Well, the food... it was my birthday and it wasn't to be known but my daughter thought she was being funny. We ordered our food and my granddaughter got Parmesan pasta. She took one bite and it had a hair, dismissed it but the second bite also had a hair. Besides that, I do not recommend the BLT chicken sandwich. Way too thick and I thought it to be dry. So, leading to the reason I announced the birthday. I was offered a free cookie. We decided to take it home because of the hairy pasta. I haven't been to BJs for lunch in ages because I'm "work from home" now and was looking forward to chili and chicken fingers. Well chicken fingers are off the menu now, I guess, and everything else is $25+ unless you want a burger/sandwich. So I had a French dip and Danielle had a chicken sandwich. My au jus was plain brown salt. Our fries were overwhelmingly salty. The coleslaw I got was ok but plain bagged mix. I ordered a beer (Nutty Brewnette) -terrible. Danielle hated the chili. Our server, Liam, was fine. Maybe overly attentive. Kitchen/bar service was incredibly slow. Took 20 or so minutes to get 2 cups of chili and then our meals were delivered 10 minutes later. Within 2-5 minutes we were already being asked if we needed boxes. Chill Liam, no one wanted out of there more than us but give ilia a chance to pick through this mess to eat what is "edible". Went for dinner on a Fri night at 530. The place was only half full...but we went and sat in the bar area. My issues are: It took forever to get food and drinks. Not the fault of the server...she was timely and attentive. We could see the glacial flow of drinks coming from the bar because it was only about 3 feet away. A simple beer took 15min. Our appetizer was ordered...delivered...and gone...before a beer came to the table. Same with food...we had to take everything to go once it was finally delivered. I made my way to BJ's Restaurant and Brewhouse for the first time ever today for lunch and it was quite an experience in good and a couple bad ways. First let's start off with the cons and my first one would be that the restaurant is too dark and I had to use my flashlight on my phone to help me see the menu. The other can was I did not really care for the coleslaw that came with my meal I'm not into crunchy coleslaw and that's nothing against the restaurant I guess it's just my preference and the third and last conversation was that my regular Pepsi seemed a bit watered down even on refills. Now let's get onto the positives I decided to order an appetizer even though i rarely ever do but since i was trying someplace new i would try an appetizer and i decided to order the avacado egg rolls as my appetizer which was avacado with cream cheese, sun dried tomatoes,red onions, cilantro, chipotle peppers with a sweet tamarind dipping sauce and these were excellent i would come back for just these they were really good and had a nice kick punch of heat i really enjoyed them. As for my main entree i decided to go for the brewhouse philly which is marinated slow roasted sliced sirloin with provolone cheese, sauteed mushrooms, caramelized onions,peperoncinis, all served on a toasted hoagie roll and served with a side of bj's coleslaw and french fries. you all already know my thoughts on the coleslaw so the french fries were really good they kind of reminded me of french fries you get at a carnival or fair for some reason they were light golden brown and delicious and as for the sandwich it was excellent and it was nice and juicy and flavorful and i would order it again for sure. As for the service and the restaurant, the service was fast and friendly and responsive and the restaurant was nice and clean. I will be back for sure but not sure when because i feel it is a bit pricey for what you are getting and my meal came to just over $30.00 dollars but i also get that the theme is like a steakhouse that is using prime products for there items. but all in all a pleasurable experience. read more
