My family is always on the lookout for new places to eat, so when we were out for a family night at the Summit Mall in Fairlawn, Ohio, we decided to give BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse a try. It ended up being such a pleasant surprise. We all went for the $13 Pizookie Meal Deal, which felt like a great value--an entrée plus a personal Pizookie dessert. If you've never had one, a Pizookie is basically a warm, gooey cookie cake with ice cream on top, and it absolutely lived up to the hype. My wife, my son, and I all ordered the All American Smash Burger. The two smashed patties, the melted American cheese, the signature sauce--it all came together so well, and the fries hit the spot. My daughter went a different route and got the Southern Fried Chicken, and she couldn't stop talking about how good it was. The pepper cream gravy and the corn and red pepper succotash really added something special. Not only was the food delicious, but our server was genuinely kind and attentive. Little things--like checking in at the right times and making sure we had everything we needed--made the meal feel even more enjoyable. The atmosphere was comfortable too: lively enough to feel fun, but not so loud that we couldn't talk and enjoy each other's company. Overall, our visit to BJ's turned into one of those unexpectedly great family meals. Average. Services made us wait to give us drink orders before doing the food. That set us back and no one was happy about the long wait. Our drinks took or 30 minutes and came when I was done with my meal, again disappointed. The drink was all ice and even then only half filled the glass. read more

Went around 5pm with my family on a Thursday. Hardly anyone in. Got seated quickly and our server was super attentive and ensured our glasses stayed full. I got the Thursday rib dinner and the ribs were not tender, they had a lot of sauce which helped but sub par. Rice pilaf was subpar as well. Brussels sprouts were good. All other food was okay. My husband and I were there Saturday afternoon. We sat at the bar which only one other person was sitting. The bartender took longer than necessary to get our drink order. We ordered the club sandwich requested sauce on the side. The food took over 1/2 hour. Sauce was on the sandwich Fries were cold. After our first drink we had to ask for another and he wasn't refilling my water. I asked twice for that. He wasn't busy except to visit with the woman at the end of the bar. We've been dining at this restaurant for years. On each visit, we've had great service and great food. Getting seated usually takes about 10 minutes, but we feel it is worth it. They don't do call ahead seating. On my most recent visit, I had a bread bowl of broccoli and cheddar soup, which was very tasty. For dessert, I had a pizzookie for the first time. They're kind of known for them, so I went with the brownie, hot fudge, and vanilla ice cream variety. It was very good and I'm glad I requested it. Our server was fast and friendly. We went to BJ's Brewhouse for my friend's birthday, and overall, it was a nice experience. The menu has a great variety of options, which I appreciate, and everything we ordered was tasty. My friend and I split the chili flake potstickers and shared the prime rib with loaded mashed potatoes and broccoli. The pan-seared potstickers were a good choice--the chili flake sauce had great flavor, and I liked the little crunchy noodles. The prime rib was solid, but the loaded mashed potatoes were definitely the standout for me. Our waitress was on top of everything and did a great job. Well, the food... it was my birthday and it wasn't to be known but my daughter thought she was being funny. We ordered our food and my granddaughter got Parmesan pasta. She took one bite and it had a hair, dismissed it but the second bite also had a hair. Besides that, I do not recommend the BLT chicken sandwich. Way too thick and I thought it to be dry. So, leading to the reason I announced the birthday. I was offered a free cookie. We decided to take it home because of the hairy pasta. The waiter stated they would send the manager over and get my free birthday cookie. We got the bill, the pasta was taken off but the manager never came over. This was the worst lunch experience I've had in some time - and terribly overpriced as well. Danielle was in the mood for chili (as was I). I haven't been to BJs for lunch in ages because I'm "work from home" now and was looking forward to chili and chicken fingers. Well chicken fingers are off the menu now, I guess, and everything else is $25+ unless you want a burger/sandwich. So I had a French dip and Danielle had a chicken sandwich. My au jus was plain brown salt. Our fries were overwhelmingly salty. The coleslaw I got was ok but plain bagged mix. I ordered a beer (Nutty Brewnette) -terrible. Danielle hated the chili. Our server, Liam, was fine. Maybe overly attentive. Kitchen/bar service was incredibly slow. Took 20 or so minutes to get 2 cups of chili and then our meals were delivered 10 minutes later. Within 2-5 minutes we were already being asked if we needed boxes. Chill Liam, no one wanted out of there more than us but give ilia a chance to pick through this mess to eat what is "edible". Wait staff came by took our drink order and left us to review the menu. It took us about 20 minutes to decide what to get. Also, we found out that the unlimited soup/salad was not available on the weekends - they should make a note of this on the menu. We finally ordered, I got the salad and pizza combo with order of sweet potato, friend went with 1/2 sandwich with wedge salad. The food was decent, nothing to write home about. Went for dinner on a Fri night at 530. The place was only half full...but we went and sat in the bar area. My issues are: It took forever to get food and drinks. Not the fault of the server...she was timely and attentive. We could see the glacial flow of drinks coming from the bar because it was only about 3 feet away. A simple beer took 15min. Our appetizer was ordered...delivered...and gone...before a beer came to the table. Same with food...we had to take everything to go once it was finally delivered. Completely unacceptable on both fronts. We actually had to ask for a check, to go boxes, and scooted out the door to a previous engagement. Time from ordering to delivery was around 40 min. We ordered takeout for 5 last evening. Everything on our table was barely edible. The bacon jam wings were so lathered with jam (after roasting) that I had to rinse them in warm water to eat. The ribs were the same...lathered with sugary, overly sweet sauce after roasting,,,not roasted with bbq sauce as you'd expect. The fish & chips! Frozen fish, i believe, fried beyond recognition. My guest ate only the center of each piece...the ends were dry rubber. The chili bowl was acceptable, but they didn't bother to include the onions and sour cream to top it off. The sliders were, well, sliders. But WHY does their takeout suffer so badly. Who the heck is actually cooking? Who is overseeing what goes out the door? No quality control. This is a cavernous space! Positive up front: the food we had was delicious! The chili con queso was thick and relatively spicy. And the chicken bowl we shared was filled with flavor and texture. We shared it, and e still had to take it home! Our server (Jimmy) was friendly and welcoming. The downside, though, was the fact that they were out of several things we ordered. No cheese sticks? Really? The pinot noir my wife wanted was also out of stock. As a craft beer fanatic, i chose something light, since I was driving. But the bartender poured my lager with several inches of the glass remaining. Hence...not a true 'pint'. At check out, our server printed off the bill for the gift card and NOT the transaction. And he left us no pen to sign. (didn't matter...there was no space on the bill to include a tip!) Our family group of 11 tried to make reservations online at this BJ's location, but on the website it said groups of over 10 must reserve a spot on the waiting list in person with the hostess. We arrived at 5:45 and were told by the hostess it would be about 7pm when we get a table. We placed our name in for the wait list and were told we'd get a text when ready. Some of us killed time until 7 at the mall next door, and some of us ordered drinks at the bar. Around 7:00 we came back in and the hostess seemed surprised, then the hostess came and said "just so you know, you guys have another 45 minute to a hour wait." When we questioned what happened that caused another 45 minute to an hour wait past the time she originally said, she got condescending and insisted that she had told us AFTER 7:00, which was false. My mother in law asked if we could sit at separate tables near each other and the hostess said yes, she could split us into tables of 6, 4, and 2, but one person couldn't pay the bill for everyone, each table would be responsible for paying their own bill. When my father in law asked to speak to a manager at that point, the manager came out with an attitude and kept telling my father in law to "calm down" before a word was even spoken and acted like he was going to physically attack him, saying things like "sir back off" and "you need to calm down" and "don't come at me like that", even though he was in fact, not coming at him at all. The manager cut him off every time he tried to speak. The manager ended up saying that he actually could find a table for us, and asked in a condescending tone if that sounds like a good idea to us. He came back a few minutes later saying that the table was available and ready. When we questioned how a table magically appeared after saying we would be waiting another 45 minutes to an hour the manager continued to have an attitude and act like we were unreasonable for wanting to be seated when we were told that we would. He even asked my father in law to step aside with him to discuss it further but continued to tell him to calm down instead of listening to him explain the problem. We ended up getting reservations at another local restaurant that was able to seat us within 15 minutes. We will never return to this BJ's location again due to the attitudes, unprofessionalism and ineptitude of both the hostess and ultimately the manager, Dan. read more

We went for a work luncheon. We had to wait for a table about 20 minutes, for four people. Our waitress was an airhead. She forgot what we ordered to drink. She messed up the food orders. She didn't come back to refill drinks. The food was so so, the soup was horrible. I felt like we were all eating at different times as everything was wrong and then came back whenever we reminded the waitress. I planned a surprise 60th birthday party for my friend. I called two weeks before and spoke to Matt the manager. He was very helpful and tried his best to make sure he could accommodate my party of 35. We ended up with almost 45 people show up. They had planned ahead and already had extra tables set up and reserved the side area for our group. We had two wonderful servers !! I can't say enough about Peyton S. and Jocelynn P. They went above and beyond to get all orders in as quickly as possible and never missed a beat. They were friendly and were also handling tables in that area that weren't our party. The restaurant was out of many of the appetizers pretty early .. we were a 2-5pm time slot. But our servers couldn't help that. Jennifer and Quinton were also part of making our party special.
