Today I went for a contact lens appointment... they would not even give me a firm price for the exam, other than it will be over $400+... and we will tell you what the final cost is going to be after the exam. The last time I had a contact lens exam at this practice the cost was $254. At $400, it is a 57% increase from my last eye exam three years ago. When I questioned the huge increase, I was told that Dr. Tupps kept his prices the same forever and that he did not charge enough. When I shared that that's a 20% increase per year, they again said he didn't charge enough. I left. Called another local eye doctor. My total eye exam cost, including contacts, was $215... Which they quoted me upfront. Within an hour I had my contact lens prescription and saved at least $185. We will not be back. They lost me as a customer. They also lost my husband as a customer. When I used to go to Dr. Tupps the waiting room was always packed. Today I walked into an empty, waiting room... Now I know why.

I have bumped this up a star (ok) but overall my experience was still what it was. I explained that this is an experience of over 10+yrs of my wife and I as patients. I live in Winter Park and I will drive all the way to Dunedin for new glasses or for help with older glasses. Dale recently fixed my current glasses (they were a mess and I love them, I use them so much!) without charging me and also was able to determine the issue with my prescription sunglasses, which were purchased at Eyes on Broadway but the downtown Winter Park glasses shop seriously messed up the measurements and I took them back 3 times and they never got it right. Dale looked at them right away and easily determined the measurements were totally off. I'm super happy with my sunglasses after Dale's help. Seriously check out the selections, reminds me of a shop in DC, only better! They have so many fun glasses. I could go on and on but just trust me on this, you won't be disappointed!

My wife politely requested the doctor (an older Asian woman) that the glaucoma test not be done. However, the doctor forcefully declined the request and told my wife she needed the test done. My wife is an alternative health practitioner who knows about the glaucoma test. She knew she was in a low-risk profile for it and that the test itself required usage on many, many people to find one existing case. My wife had no reason to suspect this condition. She asked again to decline the test. The doctor told her that unless the test was done, she couldn't be seen. So my wife left, and it wasted our time. I had a conversation with the manager who just repeated the same BS lines over and over again of "It's a different company," "the doctor says it's necessary," and "it's the standard operating procedure." Standard operating procedure? What BS. We all know that the glaucoma test has nothing to do with getting an eyeglasses prescription (which was all we wanted). We all know that glaucoma mainly affects the elderly (which my wife is not). Not respecting patients' wishes is unethical, condescending, and rude. I hope the management of this place holds its doctors to a higher ethical line and makes needed changes.

I've since switched carriers and I get even better coverage for the same great products and smash-bang service. Small office and showroom with a fairly decent collection of lenses and a couple of fairly competent reception staff. Terry the optical device specialist is fantastic and has been here longer than the rest of them put together including the two optometrists. Only trouble with this place is that they're slower than molasses! That's the reason for only 4 stars...sitting in this joint for nearly an hour and still hasn't seen the doctor. Anyhow: the optometrist we both dealt with (Dr. Geary) is a young fellow who seems relatively new out of optometry school but still knows his job well and is straightforward. No nonsense and quite a pleasant doctor to deal with. He was very thorough with my eye exam as he reviewed my old chart. They gave me the typical new case, cloth and load of eyeglass cleaning fluid with my order. Only took a bit over a week to get them back from the lab after my exam and fitting. Certainly a bit better than average as I don't care for EyeglassWorld and all those sorts of joints where they slap together glasses like a line of Big Macs. Yuck! I also got the missus to go to this place from her old eye doctor and she seems to be pleased.
