Top orchard in the area in my opinion. This popular orchard can be packed on the weekends with troves of cars and people enjoying everything they have to offer. Love the variety of apples when in season from sweet to tart to crispy to tangy! BJ Reeces also has a variety of fresh honey and jams/preserves of all different flavors. Love their dehydrated apple chips as they are so addictive. From novelty candies to fried pies and smoothies and apple cider and wines ....whats more you can ask for all in one spot. I think my review may be hurt because the weather that day was so cold and rainy. It's cute! Don't get me wrong. And I love their Apple room with all their different type apples! We got their Apple cider, cinnamon apple donut, and apple fritter. The Apple cider and cinnamon apple donut were really good! But their Apple fritter was disappointing. I think if it was warmed it would have been better. There is also no indoor seating (which usually is probably not a problem). But since it was rainy and cold we couldn't sit outside, and there were zero seats inside, so we went back to our car to eat. It began as a rainy day at the orchard after a visit to a nearby Apple Festival, that brightened up as we enjoyed our time picking apples. It felt like the perfect day, honestly. The autumn vibes were in full swing! It's a bit expensive, but I knew what to expect. I chose the smallest bag to collect my apples in, and we got started... of course not before petting and looking at all the adorable animals in their pens. We wandered off on the path to search for apples. The staff advised us to go deeper in since people had picked already from the closer trees. The smell of the apples that had fallen and were fermenting was absolutely delicious. It smelled like cider! I think this was my first time picking apples! I had a great time. UM I could hang out here alll day. In fact, I'm mad i didn't bring my laptop. The ladies out front are so delightful and very knowledgeable about their ciders. Gave me some GREAT recommendations! Indoor mezzanine level seating, outdoor patio where there's games, a giant chair for photos, plenty of seats and tables for when they have live music, an indoor area with another bar, TVs and a fire place AND another outdoor upstairs area with plenty of seating options. Came on a gorgeous sunny but fringed Tuesday mid day on my way back from the falls and it did not disappointed. Had a flight consisting of the Ellijay apple (crisp the way I like it), Ol Red (has a cherry taste. I liked it and m I don't normally like cherry!), the Imperial (my favorite and also 9%), and one I thought i would love because it was fermented in a whiskey barrel, the reserve at 9.5%, but it was a little too dry, bitter with no real smoky honey or Apple taste it was just bitter. Definitely my least favorite. but that's just a few that I tried. There were plenty more that I wish I could've sat here and tried them all, but I encourage you to come and try as many as possible. Just had a great time visiting this lovely orchard recently. We purchased a variety of their apples and loved them all. The fried pies were insanely good. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Family came on a Thursday just after noon. It was easy for us to find parking and we made our way to field 2 across the street. We bought our wristbands and picked a 1/2 bushel bag for our family to fill. The Golden Delicious were large and my favorite. My son liked a honey crisp version which was smaller but fun to eat. I thought I would like the crimson crisp, but it was actually my least favorite. I never did find the three other apples in season, but I walked at least a mile up and down hills carrying a big bag of apples! The tractor ride there and back is a tad dusty so sit close to the back. The wait for the tractor was nil go there and two minutes coming back. It was pretty epic and I plan to eat a lot of apples in the next month! Fun for the family, and saw people bring their dogs too. read more

This place has a lot of potential to be really great, but has a way to go. Seeing the animals was fun for the kids. The market had a decent selection of baked goods, preserves and vegetables. We picked up some pumpkins. The workers were friendly. Nice views of the surrounding countryside and mountains. I think my disappointment is more with the apple picking. It's the tail end of the season so there wasn't much to pick, for starters. And to get to the places to pick, you wait for a tractor to give you a lift or you take a hike. Signage was terrible. Even the online map of the farm was poor. It was very crowded and pricey for what we got. I don't think I'll be back. read more

A great place to spend a fall afternoon! My partner and I didn't pick any apples, but we did have an amazing time trying their cider options! I loved picking out a flight to taste a little bit of a few options, and the blackberry one was my personal winner. Their pours and cans were reasonably priced, so we bought a few to-go. Unfortunately this orchard has become so commercial and packed that it is hard to enjoy. We bought the apple cider donuts and fritters and they were terrible. As another user posted, there were no apples in the fritters at all, just bread. With the volume I just think the products have become more about cheap quantity than quality. And so expensive. This apple orchard pales in size to its more famous sister down the road, Mercier Orchards but I found its wares more delicious and appealing. Whether you choose to pick your own apples with the U-Pick option or go to simply go to their store and buy freshly picked apples and other delicious apple treats, BJ Reece is a solid option when visiting Ellijay. The service is friendly in the store and the atmosphere feels like a busy but well run Apple farm where you can get all kinds of different types of apples. Their apple pies are wonderful and you get a small discount if you buy 6 or more. As for our favorite apple cider, we've tried different flavors such as strawberry cider, or peach cider but we find the best is the original apple cider. We decided to come here to do some apple picking because I've never done that. I heard Crimson Crisp was delicious, so I decided to pick those! It was packed today!! So I couldn't really enjoy much besides the apple picking. There's tons and tons of acreage of different types of apples. I will say, as fun as dressing up for fall to take some photos sounds, you really do get a workout in if you go down further to where the crimson crisp apples were. So I would advise dressing appropriately. Almost as if you're going to hike. I wish I could have gone in the market! Rude service. So first off the tasting room needs more restrooms. A lot of people drinking alcohol creates a long bathroom line that back up to tables that are trying to enjoy themselves. The store across the street is a mess. We ordered pies. Well not all the pies we wanted. I started to order and the guy turned around to talk to another employee. I paused for him to finish and instead he just ripped out my ticket and asked for the next person in line. Same thing to the couple behind us. We were confused what we were supposed to do with the order ticket. The other couple asked him and he told them to go the register to get them. I knew that was wrong and we got ours at the counter. They register told the other couple they had to go back. Everything is pretty overpriced as well. read more

My family & I make it a thing to attempt to visit each orchard in north Georgia. This orchard holds a special spot because they are dog friendly. We love bringing our dogs here for a walk in the orchard. We buy a bag for apply picking but the true joy is seeing our dogs have fun exploring nature with us. When it comes to the bakery section of the orchard there are good & bad things. First the good: they are super organized. Much like Chick-fil-A they had people taking orders while you waited in line so that you took your "order number" and picked up your food when you paid. It went so much faster. Secondly, they have an open kitchen so you can actually see them cook and bake the food. Now for the not so good: the fried apple pie was almost inedible. I wish I had seen them unwrapped before I bought 6. They were so greasy and soggy crust. The apple filling almost tasted like fermented apples or alcoholic in a way. The crust was very salty, crumbly, and tasted like maybe it was fried in grease that was used for meat. I'm wondering if the oil was too cold or the pot was overcrowded during cooking. The 5 apple fritters weren't fully cooked and didn't have apples in them. Just a couple of shreds that might have been apple? That being said, the apples themselves, the atmosphere and the fact that they are dog friendly will keep us coming back. We will just skip the bakery and stick to the fruit and vegetables. read more

Love the market here! Variety of apples, honey, produce, baked goods, and etc! Upset that it took this long to go to an Orchard as I thought I would be chased by bees so missed out until now though we haven't actually been apple picking. I wish BJ Reece had a separate charge for just going inside the Orchard as it is super pricey for a photo op that we wanted as it offers lot of activities for kiddos. However we wouldn't be doing any of the activities so definitely not worth it for us. On our first haul, we picked up September Wonders and Shizuka! Shizuka is more crisp and unsweet but you can glaze honey over it and it is amazing! September Wonders are small but sweet apples! Can't wait to go back for more! Also loved their honey, apple cider, and fried apple pie! Food wise, I wasn't a huge fan and we went over to R&A where they have better options~ Oh and don't forget boiled peanuts! Overall, worth the drive out and would recommend going super early to beat the crowd! Also Pet friendly except for the Market! Lastly, make sure you double check your purchased item! This place is truly amazing. I'll first talk about how the apple orchard is very organized, and there is clear signage to help you figure out what to do. They even tell you which apples are ready to be picked and eaten. There are also signs that clearly mark which apples are aware. If you go during the weekday, some of the attractions aren't open because they don't have the staff to do everything. But on the weekends, it is both more crowded, but there are more things to do. I would probably suggest going on the weekends if you wanted to the full experience, but if you just go up to pick apples and shop in their gift shop, you should probably go on the weekdays because There were barely any people here. Every staff member is very nice. They would answer all of our questions and made sure that we knew exactly what we were getting into. The gift shop was equally as amazing and I ended up purchasing some jams as well as some pastries. I can't stay away from a sweet treat The environment was very nice and very scenic. I really enjoyed my time. This is very much a fall activity for me, so maybe I'll go back sometime later in the year but probably will just make this a yearly tradition. read more

The fruits and vegetables in the market are phenomenal. Best collards and tomatoes I have had since moving from south Alabama. The activities for the kids are incomparable during the Fall season. The apples are delicious right off the trees and the activities are so fun for the kiddos (and adults to be honest!) My family loves spending a Saturday on the farm! I stopped in on Tuesday on my way back home looking for some dinner supplies. The exterior is very nice and well cared for, and the inside is clean, organized and spacious. It is brand new so they are still stocking things, but they had a very fun selection of snacks, fruits, canned goods, and pies!!!! They have public bathrooms out back and also a few large picnic benches so that you can enjoy your treats. $200 for 5 people entrance fee and 3 half peck bags. We love BJ Reece and have been visiting every year for at least 10 years. The experience is a part of our Fall tradition. It is getting expensive, but we treat it as an amusement park. My "kids" are high school and out of college so much of our allure to this orchard has a nostalgic connection. We love the hayride, the new petting zoo (we like how the animals are in pens now versus free range running all over the place), the apple cannon ($5 for three apples), the market's fresh donuts and apple pies, picking apples (more for the walk and pictures), the slide (yes, we all still slid down), the frightened pig races, and the corn maze and scavenger hunt. The memories we've shared at BJ's have made our Fall time memorable. We join this with a trip to Amicalola Falls and Burt's Pumpkin Patch to make a complete trip. BJ's now has a new restaurant to add to their repertoire of activities with wine tasting and great ciders. I simply love this place! read more

We had a fun time this past weekend at BJ Reece's enjoying everything in the outdoors from apple picking, wagon rides, pig races to seeing the farm animals and sliding down the large pipe slide. We just made some killer apple crisp. Last year we visited neighboring Hillcrest Farm. The difference between both farms is as follows: at RJ Reece you have activities on both sides of the highway and need to pay a la cart for additional activities such as pony rides, trampolines, a maze scavenger hunt, but you get apple bags for each entrant and the price is a little lower. Hill Crests entrance fee is steeper but includes some of the a la cart activities, but doesn't include a bag to pick and keep apples you can fit in your bag. Each of the farms have their own general store where you can get everything from local honey to apple fritters, doughnuts, and of course all the apple cider you can dream of. BJ Reece had some very unique activities like learning to milking a cow and some very unique long horn bulls. We had a wonderful time. read more

I have never been apple picking and this was a great initiation to the same. Located in Elijay, GA the farm is 1.5 hours out of the city. There are several other farms(apple picking, pumpkin, sunflower farms) so hoping amongst farms is not hard. However, we had so much fun at BJs that we didn't have time for another farm. Despite the ongoing pandemic I was shocked to see the large number of fellow Atlantans at the farm. Masks were needed everywhere indoors but not mandatory. The apple picking area was massive and I loved walking about and selecting apples of my choice. You purchase the bags and fill it with as many apples as you can and there is no shortage! This was one of our favorite stops in Ellijay. We learned about it at a wine tasting down the street and we are so happy we stopped. Note, there are two buildings across the street from each other. This review is on the ORCHARD STORE we did not go in the cider store. First thing to notice is in the parking lot. There is a small pipe barely extruding from the wall to the left of the entrance and you may see a bee or two around it. It connects to a beehive inside, but you should take a look because it is really cool. Service, good lord I thought I was family. They treated us like long lost cousins and at one point I thought they were going to have me sign adoption papers for my kids. Sadly, I think my kids would have stayed with them, because they had so much fun. They have a really good cross section of items, apples, apple cider, fried pies, fresh produce, rubs and seasoning mixes to give you a small sample. We had so much fun interacting with the staff and they guided us to some of the stores specialties. What we tried: Potatoes - needed potatoes for a roast I was cooking. These were fresh and delicious, plus it saved me a trip to Ingles. Onions - same as potatoes, good. Honey - wow, really good, plus the cool bee thing. Fried Blueberry Pie - fresh, warm and good. Fried Coconut Pie - OMG, this is AMAZING. Like a coconut crème pie in a miniature. (All their fried pies were really good.) Mint Jelly - my wife loves mint jelly, she opened this one in the car. Headed to BJ Reece yesterday with some friends. They opened at 1p and we left Atlanta around 1145a on a Sunday. Traffic was smooth sailing until we got to SR 52. With there being so many attractions on one street, it made arriving a nightmare. So I'd you're coming from the city, I'd suggest leaving 2.5 hours early. Give yourself time to drive, park, and stand in line. Lines were long. There are quite a few things to do and with kids, it's very easy to want to get the largest package. DONT! You want have time to do it all and they know it! It's like going to a buffet and thinking you'll eat all of the food and get full after the salad. The lines in the market, which is where everyone wants to go to buy desserts and coders will eat up your whole trip. If you go with others, I'd suggest taking turns standing in line so that you can shop and save your spot. - CARRY CASH if you plan to eat at the food trucks outside. - Bringing some hand wipes and tissue would be helpful in the bathrooms bc they ran out of both. - if you have a wagon, you'd be happy you did. Trying to carry everything across two orchards can be a bit much. - when going through the orchards, save yourself a trip and go to the very end of the rows go get through. There are NO walkways to cross in between the rows of apples until you get near the GOLDEN DELICIOUS and ARKANSAS BLACK APPLES. We ended up doing a ninja course climbing over and under wires to get around. There were 15 of us and 9 of the 16 were kids (3 under 2). Don't be like us. - Don't try to be cute and wear your good clothes. You'll wish you hadn't. - Trucks and SUVS are best when parking in the U PICK 2 lot. Very easy to get stuck or stalled. - The slushies are delicious. The desserts are AWFUL.. awfully good!! Thank me later!! I'll definitely go back, but will make time to drink and shop. read more

You can spend a pretty good day with kids during apple picking season with plenty to do. One might expect a quaint north GA country experience but instead it's more like experiencing the great apple industrial complex. The setting is pretty, but it's not cheap. Considering their money making season is limited I get it but you also may leave feeling a bit gauged. We paid $18 to fill a medium bag and another $20 for the basic rides and entry red bracelet (they have a a few levels of bracelets and benefits). There were huge crowds the day we came and it took about 15 minutes to drive our last mile as a result. Once you're there the parking lot is huge and there are two separate sides of the road with orchards and other attractions/markets to explore. Our kids enjoyed the large "pillow trampoline," the giant tractor ride that loops the orchard to get from point A to point B and the smaller tractor ride with the cow cabooses. We saw a pig race and played on the nearby tires. We also visited the petting zoo and the apple themed market. The outdoor lunch cafe features the typical sort of fried fast food/hamburger offerings you'd expect but just a heads up that it's cash only. The food is fine but nothing special. We also paid $5 extra to try the tube slide which was fun but it was unclear what we were paying for- I overheard several customers arguing with the young teenage staff about whether that got them one ride, three rides, or unlimited rides because the signs lacked detail. The corn maze, which we did not do, is similarly not included in the red wristband price. Many rows of apple trees were pretty picked off but given the crowds this isn't surprising and if you are willing to walk a little further out, there were plenty of other apples left. I tried many delicious apples but I did struggle to find more than a few of the same varieties. I understand the featured varieties and pick areas vary day to day (I'm assuming to manage supply). I think the food situation could be better managed with the crowds and it would be nice to have more real bathrooms (and not just outhouses) considering the pricing. The staff was courteous and it was a fun overall experience but I'm guessing for most people, not worth doing more than once a year. We took some delicious apple cider donuts to go and we are looking forward to trying some interesting looking jams and salsa at home. read more

Love this place!!! So many fried pies to choose from. Apples galore!! Where to start... the staff are all so friendly and helpful. They are quick with the pie lines too. I got an apple cider donut, was nice and fluffy. I also got a pecan fried pie. Yum! It was nice that you could buy single apples to try first.
