We took a family trip up to R&A Orchards this fall to get some fresh apples for baking and snacking. Most of the fruit were fresh and perfect for picking if you were tall enough to get them. A lot of the trees had already been picked over, but once we got to the end of the section, we had a little more luck. We had purchased the large bag to fill and the amount of apples we were able to pick was impressive. One thing that we did not like was how much dusty/dirt was thrown onto us via the tractor pulling our wagon to the picking spot. This is bound to happen on a farm though, so we can't be too upset about it! We were not able to pick flowers as there had been frost that morning that ruined the flowers. We will plan to go earlier in the season next year to experience that. We enjoyed browsing the canned goods in the store and buying fresh produce to bring home for cooking.

This is ALWAYS my first stop when I get up into the north Georgia mountains. The food from the deli in the back of the market is amazing and the fresh cider slushies (Apple, Peach & Grape) are perfection on a hot day. Don't forget to take home some homemade pies and fresh picked peaches!

Smaller orchard than the others we went to in the area with a smaller variety of apples available. We came to pick apples, not realizing that they only do this on weekends. Whoops! Actually, both U pick flowers and apples are on weekends only. Plan accordingly. We did like that they had a kitchen area with an abundance of fruity baked good options but also savory yummies to enjoy. I wish I had the chance to try the chicken and dumplings. Another time! Great and HUGE selection of fried pies (many of which have homemade fillings. We tried sweet potato and peach). Both were very tasty with a crust that was perfectly buttery and flaky. We also got: -apple pecan butter -apple bread -apple cider donuts -1 caramel apple - 1/2 peck assorted apples We really liked the donuts, pies, and apple pecan butter. The rest we would pass on, as this place was pricier than other or yards with less of a variety available.

Loved this place! The muscadine slushee was so great that we stopped by again on our way back from our day of adventures to get another one! Friendly staff and so many goodies for you or to give as gifts. Can't wait to go back.

R&A Orchards is definitely dedicated to their apples. They had many different baked goods, drinks, and tons of apples. I got the fried apple pie and it was mediocre. It was very cold and even warmed up it doesn't taste very good. I got the strawberry drink with ice cream in it and it was very good!! The service was okay, I ordered from one woman and I could feel her attitude towards me which created an uncomfortable atmosphere but otherwise the ambiance of the restaurant was fine and southern.

This orchard is amazing! They have a tractor ride that leads throughout the orchard that goes to an apple picking section then to flower picking, which was wonderful! The service was very personable and nice and a great spot for a date!

One of my favorite orchards. A great selection of fresh fruits and veggies, great snacks, and the smell that greets you upon entering already makes the trip worth it. Their fresh blueberries are incredible, and the strawberry cider is my favorite. The people working there are also just sweet and polite.

R and A isn't only for apple pickers! They have delicious produce, canned goods- my favorite is the candied jalapeños! Delicious homemade ice cream, apple and muscadine slushies- out of this world delicious! A whole lunch menu- the cheeseburgers are delicious! And my favorite summer time treat- homemade strawberry shortcake- it was enough for 3 people and was only $5. And I think they are open every day- worth a visit and you'll keep coming back for more!

As a tweenager and teenager, my parents would drag me out for "Rides in the country". I hated these rides in the southern tier of New York State. One thing that was good was the stops at the orchard stands. I loved getting a great, fresh apple to chow down on in the back seat. I was prejudiced in favor of New York State apples. A friend at church in middle TN heard I was going to north east GA and told me I HAD to get apples. Reluctanly, I stopped at this place. It was random, the first I noticed. Boy, did I have fun and got great fruit. Not only did I enjoy the shopping and goodies, my traveling companion smiled at his purchases, and he rarely shows any emotions. When I got back home, my family didn't exactly dance around the kitchen table, but the did like what I bought and brought home. I'm smiling at the memories of stopping there as I write this. Go there.

Must stop by for Cajun peanuts!! Has a good spice and freshly made! We were looking for another peanut place and stumbled on this one driving by. A container of peanuts for just $5

What a charming place to visit! Height of Peach Season so I stopped by and picked up a few. Also bought some fresh Produce, Pickled Okra and Peach Moonshine Jelly. Ate a delicious BLT in the little cafe. Highly recommend. =)

October is the busiest time for apple picking. Lines was long for the fried pie as well as the ladies two stall bathroom. I was in a search for Georgia's famous pecan pie. The other popular orchard stop making them altogether. While I was in line with my husband purchasing apple cider donuts. The cashier overheard my husband and I about the pecan pie. We were in luck the young lady at the cash register was able to sell us the last pecan pie. I am so happy she was there. Now I enjoy my delicious Georgia pecan pie and yes I will return to your establishment for this reason.

For a while, I've been looking for a list of quintessential Georgian experiences. You know, a few things that really capture the spirit of the state. Catch a Braves game. Take the trip to Plains and sit in on Jimmy Carter's Sunday school lessons. Pay respects at the MLK memorial. I've happily done these things. Add this to the list. I'll admit it, I'm a city slicker. But the north GA mountains have much to offer. Chief among these experiences are the events surrounding the apple harvesting season. Ellijay hosts an annual festival for this purpose, which my family really enjoys. We made the shlep from the city, maybe an hour and a half, and poked around the town, which was covered with tents and exhibitions. Beautiful place, seriously. There are many orchards that host pick-your-own events, and R&A does this with serious efficiency. With two children, we bought them each a small pickin' bag and they filled em up quickly. After that, an included ride in one of the several circulating tractor carts (hayride style) gave a view of the lovely 500 acres, which also produces vegetables and flowers. My young son adores large equipment, so seeing the huge tractors made him super happy for the rest of the day. Peruse the farm store, too. Word is, of the competing orchards, this may be the only attached farm store that's open year round. It's lovely, but be aware there's lots of people at their annual peak time. We had a blast. Will absolutely return.

Another absolute must-visit when you're in Ellijay…read more Let me start with the food -- because wow. By far some of the freshest and most flavorful apple pies I've ever had. Not "good for a farm market"... just flat-out amazing. The kind of pie you immediately start thinking about on the drive home. Their produce selection is equally impressive. We're talking everything from purple carrots to vegetables I didn't even know I needed in my life until I saw them. On top of that: homemade candies, jars of jam with flavor combinations I never would have imagined, and yes -- chow chow. If you've never had chow chow, do yourself a favor and try it. Game changer. But what truly makes this place special is the people. The ladies at the register were older, sweet, hilarious, and full of personality. One of them even flirted with me -- I had to tell her, "You can't handle this ride, grandma!" The entire exchange had me laughing the rest of the visit. In the back, a group of women were playing mahjong, just enjoying life, laughing, and clearly at home in the space. That energy carried throughout the whole market. It's the kind of place that feels lived in, loved, and genuinely warm. Even the guy outside in the parking lot collecting carts, casually smoking a cigarette, was one of the chillest people I've met. Everyone there just seemed... happy. Comfortable. Real. This place put a real smile on my face. Not because it's flashy or fancy -- but because it's authentic. Good food, good people, good energy. I already can't wait to go back. If you're in Ellijay and you don't stop here, you're doing the trip wrong.

They have good reason to have perfected this - one of the family had type 2 diabetes and lost his legs after going into cardiac arrest. The sweet young man shared his story when he learned I was also a diabetic, as a cautionary tale. Their peaches were lovely, nectarines slightly less so, but nothing was bad. Their white potatoes were extraordinary. Apparently they purchased these - I called after I cooked some to find out the type, they were deliciously tender, just earthy and sweet enough to eclipse the prime ribeye steaks I cooked as the main. Boiled, then halved and baked with olive oil and salt, they were so good. Everyone exclaimed over them. I loved this place and look forward to visiting the next time I'm in that area.
