I'm sure this place is awesome when it's in full blown season. We went here for my niece and nephew; something to do while we were in town. We arrived and entered a small barn that has all sorts of jars and jams full of things like salsa, seasonings, candy, and most importantly - fresh apples. Other than it, we only spent five minutes in this store. Maybe we should have went a day other than New Years Eve. We would have definitely liked to see it in full-force! Red Apple Barn is a wonderful spot to visit. The market is a little smaller than other Apple orchards in the area, however they have an amazing field and orchard that's available for Apple picking, wagon rides, flower picking and pumpkin patches. The market has an amazing variety of items ranging from local honey, breads and pastries to donuts and you guessed it, a plethora of apples! Lovely spot for views and photo ops as it's decorated for non stop fun. All the employees are nice and caring and helpful when you have a question or recommendation. read more

Had a good time, but not sure I would go back! It has nothing to do with the people, every worker we interacted with with super nice, and the farm itself. It's beautiful. However, if you're traveling with kiddos or older family members, it really just isn't the most accessible place. There's a hill you have to walk up to get to the store, and honestly, I would skip that because the donut and cider that is included seems very store-bought. You have to take a tractor wagon to get to the orchards, which is not my experience in other you pick farms I've been to, and the trees themselves were very picked over, we really had to climb through the bushes and pulled down branches to get apples, and even then the pickings were slim . If I had known, I would've just gotten some from the store and save the hassle. There's lots of other orchards in Ellijay that I may try next time read more

Can you even say you ever really enjoyed the fall if you don't go to some sort of mostly outdoor venue with apples, apple byproducts, and pumpkins? Of course you can't. This is why we all load up the cars one weekend in October (or thereabouts) and haul out to wherever we see the word "barn," and then spend all our money gorging on items for the rest of the week, and hopefully planning ahead to save something for next weekend, when the craving hits us again! As Yelp rarely leads me astray, I headed up to the Big Apple Barn to do all of the above. They were sorting out apples on the drizzly day that I visited, and I (less than gracefully) maneuvered around the mud puddles in the parking lot to head inside for some delicious treats. I could've driven down to the pumpkins, but I had apples on the brain and couldn't wait to get some. I picked up a half a bushel of deliciously fresh apples, some chocolate covered pecans (because, duh, Georgia), an apple cider donut, and some hand pies to take to the family because I'm just that great of a daughter. The store was small, but the customers flowed in and out like the religious apple crop followers that we are. The prices didn't gouge, and the flavors were all delicious. Definitely a recommendation, and can't wait until the next time I am even remotely in the area so I can stop in again. read more

One of the only reviews I've bumped up to a full star from a half. A 4.5-5 stars! TL;DR: This is a great choice orchard for u-pick! It includes a number of things, is well organized, and isn't as crazy busy as the other locations down the road on the east side. Lots of people complain about a hill climb, but you don't have to do this if you are okay with picking apples near the tractor drop off; Some variations are up the hill, but certainly not all. ARRIVAL: We arrived on Saturday around 1130a the first weekend of October. We got one of the last parking spaces inside and a few larger trucks were already parked along the road. We didn't see many cars leaving, so it seemed like the first heap of people were still there. AMBIANCE: Great fall vibes and a number of couples and friends, there were a large number of groups with kids as expected, but I would say it wasn't even MOSTLY kids. Sunflower patch, flower patches, pumpkins, and of course, lots of apples at the orchard! SERVICE: Everybody was genuinely friendly and the whole experience was very well organized. ADMISSION: We paid about $11/person which includes the wagon ride, an apple, apple cider donut, small cup of apple cider, and 3 flowers per person. EXPERIENCE: After parking, proceed to the u-pick shed on the lower part of the hill and fill out a liability form, decide how many apples you'd want to get and in what type of receptacle (peck = plastic bag?, basket = cute basket). We got a 1/4 peck which ended up fitting about 7 apples. The wait for the tractor ride felt really long, but they did a good job of having tractors coming back and forth and loading/unloading without delay; Some people gave up and opted to walk, but i'm glad we didn't after seeing the walking distance and having fun on my first tractor wagon ride! We took the smaller tractor wagon up. When you get up to the front, a girl gave us a good overview of what apples were available, how to tell they're good, how to pick them. There was a simple hand-drawn map that I referred to, but it's really...basic and has little reference points but i felt like that gave it all the more of a family-owned vibe! We did the hike up the hill for pink ladys, hiked back down and up for mutsus (which were all gone that day), and ended up finding the most delicious Pritchett golden apples in the area just next to the shed. We spent about an hour up in the orchards but you can take as much time as you want. They have cows and allow you to feed and pet them and tire swings and a couple games/structures for kids to play on. The tractor ride back was a much shorter wait and this time we got on the larger wagon!! We got back and walked up the path where donuts and cider were waiting for us (but not sitting out by any means and there were two ladies there serving). Since we were going to visit a couple more places after, we didn't stop inside the store which was a bit smaller in sqft than the others we saw. CLEANLINESS: I didn't use the bathroom or anything there, but the wagon, orchard in general, the donut/cider serving station and parking lot were all well maintained and clean. The driveway in/out of the orchard wasn't even extremely dusty (but a little dust gets kicked up during the tractor ride in case you're sensitive) OVERALL: We went to Reece's cider co after this and I was glad to have come to Red Apple Barn for our apple picking instead. Reece's was extremely busy, tons of kids, parking was really full and off a busy area of the road. I enjoyed the calmer environment and smaller crowd here and loved that the admission included a bit of everything (even if we forgot to pick flowers! oops!) so it served as a great one stop shop. Unfortunately I have to come back because I hate apples but have found the Prichett Golden that is fantastic and their own variety. Can't wait to return next year! read more

After driving all around Chattanooga and going to what was advertised as an "orchard " we found most were not orchards, had very limited apples at ridiculous prices, Red Apple Barn is an absolute delight. Huge selection of apples grown on the property great prices. You can buy any variety at many size levels. Tons of great apple products too. It's great If you live fairly close to the area. I wouldn't drive from the south side of Atlanta to make the trip. We came to try and take pictures as well as something different for the the kids to do. The kids had fun but not too many places to take pictures. It is something nice to do and experience in GA but you might have better choices closer to your home. Value wise I think everything is fairly priced. While waiting online I heard people complaining about the price but honestly people have to make money also sometimes you have to pay for the experience. The staff is also really friendly read more

My family and I had a great time at this apple orchard! For around $7 we got to go on the hayride up to the orchard (you can grab a couple apples to go included in this price) as well as grab an apple spiced donut & a cup of fresh squeezed apple cider (which was delicious!) I wanted to take more apples home so I bought the smallest bag for $4.75 which held about 8-10 apples depending on the size picked. There's also a cute little store which has an array of apple themed goodies to take home. I bought a macintosh candle & a jug of apple cider of course :) I would totally recommend taking kids, family, or friends here for a fun fall weekend activity. We really enjoyed ourselves. read more

I was somewhat hesitant to make the long drive after I read reviews but I'm glad I ignored them. We got there at 10 with our 2 year old and I am so glad we went early. The staff were super friendly, the value of what you get is excellent and the apples are delicious. It's also just a really nice experience. We all loved it. We are from Savannah, so I don't understand people complaining about prices. You get an Apple, a donut, cider, pick 2 flowers, the tractor ride to the orchard AND kids can paint rocks for $9. Our toddler was even free! You can't beat that. We also won a free Apple pie as a prize for finding a hidden gourd. Everyone on our tractor ride wore their mask and it honestly wasn't super crowded until we were leaving the orchard which was around 1130. I would most definitely do this again! read more

A group of my friends and our kids met at Red Apple Barn on the last Sunday of September around 1pm. We beat the crowds. They have a good package deal for apple picking, wildflower picking, apple cider, and a donut. They have two "hay rides" that rotate picking customer up from the main area and taking them to the orchard. They have to big orchards. One you have to walk up a big hill to visit. We decided to walk up the hill and found a lot of apples to choose from. Afterwards we visited the main orchard which was full of apples. It was a really warm day with temperatures in the 80s. They had a tent with a picnic table underneath and cold water set up near the orchard. It was a great relief after being in the sun. We rode back down the mountain and walked up the path to the store. There is a table set up outside the store to get your apple cider and donut. The apple cider was cold which was perfect for the warm day. I asked if they adjust from cold to warm apple cider based on weather and was told they do. It was delicious but the donut was to die for! My favorite part of our yearly apple orchard trips is visiting the stores at the orchards! I love buying (often times too much) jams, honey, and other canned items. They have a large selection of all of those in addition to apples, fritters, and other backed goods. They had a large variety of pumpkins... orange and white. After leaving the store we picked our wildflowers then walked through the pumpkin patch before heading home. I was really pleased with our experience at Red Apple. I wish their pumpkin patch had some regular size pumpkins in late September. There were quite a few huge pumpkins in the patch. I suggest visiting early October if you want a good selection of apples. Later than mid October will limit your selection. read more

We've been to Red Apple Farm several times before - their store has terrific baked goods and can goods (their moonshine pickles are a must get!), their prices are excellent and they are very close to the adorable downtown Ellijay area. And right now (Sept, 2020) they have a small outdoor area for kids to play on a homemade hay bundle play area and are offering U-Pick where you can take a tractor ride to the fields to pick apples yourself. HOWEVER there is no social distancing and no expectation of mask wearing. The tractor ride to the fields are packed tight, the lines for donuts are crowded under a tented area outside and the inside store was shoulder to shoulder people. With two college students that just recovered from COVID, my husband and I practice mask wearing and social distancing, which is possible in such an environment if enforced and practiced. Upon arriving and taking a quick walk from the parking lot to the store seeing maybe 1/4 of people in masks and no social distancing, we regretfully decided to turn around and leave. We headed to another apple farm about 20 minutes away in Blue Ridge that we knew required masks and was enforcing social distancing, although this Blue Ridge farm was not offering U-Pick at the time (although at this same farm a few months ago we were able to pick our own blueberries in their exceptionally scenic fields all while they practiced social distancing and required masks). Any other time (non-pandemic) I'd highly recommend Red Apple Farm if you are in the area (I agree with the other reviewer that I wouldn't drive from the city just to visit this place). After this pandemic I will return to Red Apple Farm when we are in the area to stock up on their baked goods and canned items. Then I'll be sure to leave a better review. read more

We goes to Red Apply Barn to pick apples every year and we always pick 1 Bushel. This year the price is different. First of all, they no longer have a bag for half Bushel basket. We need to PURCHAE the basket. The 1/2 Bushel apple was sold at the store for $20, 1 Bushel for $32. Well, if you want to pick on your own, the 1/2 Bushel is $25.70, 1 Bushel for $51.40!!!!!! Almost double the price!!!!! On top of that, you pay $7.50 per person to be able to participate u-pick which includes a tractor ride, a cup of water down apple cider, and a donut. Felt like being ripped off. We'll never come back here to pick the apples again!! read more

I hope that these negative reviews don't deter people from coming here.. I wish that I could give more than 5 stars. We visited with a group of 5 girls (bachelorette party) and thoroughly enjoyed every aspect. It was such a steal - only $6 for a tractor ride, rock painting, orchard exploring, apple picking, feeding the mules, a cup of apple cider, a donut, and so much more. We took SO MANY photos and will never forget the visit. Negative reviewers need to realize that the owners CANNOT control Mother Nature, seasons, weather, and the natural process of apples spoiling. I don't know how they offer everything for only $6 and would have gladly paid more. We went later in the season, therefore, not all of the apples were available to physically pick, but they were still available for purchase. We still managed to find some on the trees and, even if it wasn't a lot, we enjoyed looking! It doesn't look like much from the road, but just wait until you see the expansive orchards. read more

If your going to get apples, it's fine! The " Fresh Apple bread" is a joke, no apple taste, no apples, just go buy a loaf of wheat bread! Also, don't bother with the Cinnamon pecan bread, no pecans to be found, not sweet at all. Very disappointed that we drive out of our way to go here. Again only worth going to pick apples! read more

Arrived here on a Saturday late morning. Stood in line for over 20 minutes to buy admission. Only 1 person cashing folks in for Apple picking and a hundred people in line. Long line for bathroom. Long line for 5 minute tractor ride. We gave up after 40 minutes and walked 10 minutes to orchards. Had we known it was only a 10 minute walk, we wouldn't have waited 40 minutes for a tractor. Place is disorganized and parking was not orderly. This place could do so much more business if they understood how to organize it. read more

I go here every year to buy apples from the barn. I don't pick my own, but do choose from the many different apples available. I also buy enough apples for family and friends. These look so much better than the ones in the grocery stores. We make our own apple pies, etc. read more

My husband and I went to Red Apple Barn last October (mid-October). We enjoyed it, but might consider going elsewhere this year. A few things: we managed to get plenty of apples, though it was a little tough and the trees were a bit sparse. Also, one of the major cons is that a lot of the trees are on a steep slope and we were sliding all over the place and it was near impossible to get to many of the trees (especially the ones with the granny smiths that I wanted!). The line was not bad at the front to get our bags though, and everyone was friendly enough. There is not much frill here, just a small store selling some apples and other various apple-related items. We also bought a few pumpkins here. I did like this orchard because it was smaller and didn't charge an admission fee from what I can remember. read more

I haven;t picked apples since I was a teen and I don't think I will do it again. the farm is ok but u need to be a mountain goat to get from row to row. the biggest rip off is the $5 per head they charge for u to take a 6 minute tractor drive to the fields. go to publix and buy apples. it will be far cheaper. read more
