Came here on a whim after googling restaurants in the area. Was definitely not expecting to be so impressed. I'm not from the area but have always worked in the restaurant industry and have a family bar business, so it's not often easy to impress me with the overall experience. Everything from the decor, the service, the food, the drink quality, was amazing. The attention to detail in the design and aesthetic of the space did not go unnoticed. I mentioned a mild nut allergy when inquiring about one of the appetizers, even downplayed its severity. When my husbands appetizer came out, they had put the nuts to the side even though this dish was not for me and I hadn't mentioned anything about my allergy in regard to that specific dish. The entrees were amazing, the quality of the wagyu was beyond expectation. I did notice a small chip in my water glass toward the end of the meal, and one of the men who was serving us, who i assume was the owner, noticed at the same time and immediately replaced the glass. I had intended to quietly let him know so he could toss it, but the fact that he even noticed it while in the dim dining room showed me that they care about every aspect of their customer experience, as it's very easy to miss things like this when washing hundreds of glasses a day. The waiter/bartender was attentive and the drinks were amazing. My husband loved his old fashioned and they had an amazing $5 Monday Old Fashioned promotion. I dressed up a little as it seemed like a nice place when I looked online, and it definitely had an upscale cuisine and overall atmosphere, but you could easily come here straight from the beach in more casual attire and not feel underdressed or uncomfortable. As a service industry veteran I appreciate a casual and comfortable vibe in a nicer environment. You can tell that the executive chef has passion for what he does and the FOH staff seem to enjoy being there and making sure that the guests have a fantastic experience. read more

Plenty of parking though the restaurant is located in a one story retail center so don't expect any breathtaking views. Interior buildout is warm and simple, bar on the right, dining in an L shaped around the bar. Wood beam ceiling with stone accents and comfortably laid out tables, horizontal mini blinds look out of place and could be upgraded. This is a higher end chef driven restaurant with custom craft drinks and a strong wine menu. We made a reservation and for a dinner date I would suggest. We started with drinks and appetizers of smoked crab brule and five pepper shrimp, both sharable and we enjoyed the taste and presentation. For our main course we ordered the crawfish gnocchi, short ribs and the filet. We all enjoyed our entrees, again great taste and presentation, no complaints. We skipped desert because we had birthday cake at home but they sent us off with a complimentary piece of cheesecake. Service was freindly, quick and efficient, waiter was engaging, hip and was able to accurately remember our orders without writing anything down, that is a special skill. My favorite restaurant in Destin, so far. The outside is misleading being casually located right next to a Home Depot, off the main road. Food sounded great on the menu and I have heard a lot of hype about this place so I was excited to try it out but it was definitely disappointing to say the least. We came in around 4:00 pm and there was maybe one customer sitting at the bar. We walked in and weren't greeted by anyone so we just asked the bartender / server if we were supposed to find a table and he said yes so we grabbed a spot ( pretty much every table in there was empty ) and he sat some menus down and filled our water and we sat there for what felt like 20 minutes just drinking water. We ended up just walking out because it was super awkward and we were hungry. I work in the food business so I understand if you're busy and can't get to us right away... but to just be standing around chatting to your buddies at the bar when you've clearly got customers that have been waiting for 15+ minutes to just order a drink or an appetizer is ridiculous. My wife and I had a little date night and decided to try this new restaurant. Our overall experience was great! We really liked the atmosphere and vibe of Bitterroot. Great for a date night with warm lighting and candles but not over the top though, they had some new school music playing and good vibes all around. Our server was attentive but gave us space which was nice. The French 75 and Old fashioned were excellent and the $5 old fashioned will have me dropping by anytime I'm in the neighborhood Now for the food- each dish we had was popping with flavor. We had the Thai beef salad: good combo of salty, sweet, and savory. Fresh crunchy veggies with the shaved tenderloin made the dish and kept it light. The beef short rib takes the gold medal. So tender the bone comes right out and the ratatouille and ricotta gnocchi pairs perfectly. Nice deep savory flavor from the short rib juxtaposed with the light ricotta gnocchi and tomatoes was nice. 10/10 would recommend! Love giving local places our business too instead of all the chains that are overrunning our area. We'll be back! read more
