The size of the nachos was definitely not what you would expect for four people. It is definitely on the smaller side. Did not come with a side of salsa or sour cream. I was also surprised I didn't have jalapeño or anything that would make it spicy. We got burrito, quesadillas coming. Nice size would compare to a regular wrap size. Not one of those oversize burrito. The quesadillas also came wrapped as a burrito. Had a little side of salad with tomatoes and guacamole. I found them to be a little disappointing. The place was already packed, although it has 2 floors I think the upper floor is only used for special events. We were told it could be a 45 min wait but luckily the manager later helped us get a table within minutes. This seems to be a very popular place in town so if you are coming on a weekend make sure to reserve. Robbie's looks like a modern steakhouse/sports bar. There's a big bar in the middle of the restaurant with lots of stool seating and the rest of the tables include some really comfortable sofa type chairs. They have a cool Facebook "likes" counter on the wall that spins in real time whenever someone likes their Facebook page which I thought was a good way to promote themselves. There's a big American flag painting on another wall which is a nice ode to traditional American bbq eats. Our group sampled the steak nachos (gigantic whopping portion that easily serves a meal, not an appetizer), the meat platters which has a mix of brisket, pulled pork, chicken and ribs, along with the mac and cheese and standard sides like fries, coleslaw, mashed potatoes. The chicken and meats were really tender and juicy however we found that the ribs kind of taste like regular smoked ham which was kind of disappointing. The steak nachos were delicious, the portion was huge and there was enough nacho cheese for each bite which is amazing because restaurants often lack toppings but this was overwhelmingly awesome. The only drawback was the extra charge for sour cream, whether you want some for your $20 nachos or for your baked potato, this sets you back an extra $1.75. I've dined in so many other steakhouses and restaurants that do not charge for this extra so I find that a little cheap for Robbie's. Further, there are no free refills on fountain sodas and certain items like the mac and cheese or sides were quite small. For example the coleslaw came in a tiny plastic cup that was enough for 3 or 4 bites only. Cabbage is something that really doesn't cost much, I think if they're going to serve my meal in a huge fancy square plate, they should have made more of an effort to fill it. For a restaurant that constantly advertises themselves on Facebook with a slogan of "GO BIG OR GO HOME", I was expecting larger portions but the only large plate was the nachos. Main meals were average sized and fairly priced considering there are no taxes but this is in no way comparable to the portion or service you'd get in the states if you were hoping for American dining. If you enjoy a massive food challenge, they do offer a giant burger, fries and pitcher of beer deal for around $120 dollars- if you're able to finish it, it's free. Although the regular portions are not as gigantic as they made it seem, the food was still excellent, I enjoyed every item I ordered and I would consider coming back for their Sunday all-you-can-eat brunch or just to try their deluxe burgers. The menu was extensive and very appetizing. Bonus, lots, lots of free parking and free wifi.

For drinks, I had a paper plane and a last word. Those are my two go to cocktails for nicer bars, and they pulled them off fantastically (they also knew what I was talking about which is kind of rare for the last word). For an extra nice touch, they clipped an actual paper plane to the paper plane drink. Fun! For food, I ordered the Duck Confit. It was super crispy on the outside, but the meat was super tender and juicy and melted off of the bone. My mouth is watering while thinking about it. It also came with bread service. For dessert I had the tiramisu. I would give it a 4/5 - it was a little more bland than others I've had - not bad at all, but not my favorite one of all time. They seem to be serious about their coffee (see pictures). Since I was sitting right in front of it I had to order one to go with the tiramisu. I had a basic americano, and it was a great addition. After discovering Monarque in the Michelin Guide, we made a reservation during our time in Old Montréal, excited for an elevated dining experience with some adventurous dishes. We started with the bone marrow and also ordered the schnitzel, duck, and swordfish. The clear standout of the evening was the swordfish. Beautifully light and flaky, paired with a delicious couscous that gave the dish just enough substance without taking away from the delicate fish. It was easily my favorite bite of the night. The schnitzel and duck, however, didn't quite live up to the same standard. While both were good, I felt the heavier citrus-forward sauces did much of the work in bringing the dishes together rather than allowing the proteins themselves to shine. I appreciate a kitchen willing to experiment with less conventional dishes and bold flavor combinations, but some of these felt more interesting in concept than execution. The duck in particular is something I could have done without. Where Monarque truly excels is hospitality. The service was easily the highlight of our evening. The staff was incredibly attentive, knowledgeable, and helpful in navigating the menu. This is the kind of establishment where if you drop your fork, someone is practically there with a replacement before you've had a chance to pick it up. The pacing was seamless, and the entire experience felt thoughtfully orchestrated. The atmosphere is elegant and formal, with dim lighting, white tablecloths, and an upscale setting that lends itself beautifully to an anniversary or special occasion dinner. My biggest hesitation comes down to the value. At this price point, I expect the food to be just as memorable as the service, and unfortunately, that wasn't quite the case for us. My verdict: 3/5 stars. Monarque is worth experiencing once, especially if you appreciate exceptional hospitality and an adventurous menu. But while I left impressed by the service, the food didn't earn a spot among my top-tier dining experiences. If you do visit, the swordfish would be my recommendation!
