The food was good; the beer and drink selection...very good, and the service was excellent. The shrimp cocktail appetizer was tasty, but nothing out of the ordinary. I enjoyed my lobster roll and my wife seemed to enjoy the soft shell crab. The Red Pinot she ordered was great and I always enjoy an nice glass of Duvel. The dessert martini was really good. The prices are a bit much considering the portions, but I suppose seafood always sells at a premium. Our waitress was excellent and didn't miss a beat with always being around keeping her eyes peeled to see if the tables she was serving needed anything.

The pics, reviews, and menu all seemed to point towards a yes - so off we went. Freddy's is located within the main commercial hub of Pleasantville. It's not a large restaurant, but holds a decent amount of seating with tasteful and laid-back decor. We were there right at opening at 4:30p, so it wasn't crowded but started filling up as time progressed. The menu is mostly American - arranged by apps, salads, entrees, sides, and desserts. I decided to start with the burrata which was served with diced butternut squash, brown butter, and grilled bread. This was...not what I was expecting. Burrata usually comes as an intact sphere that you cut open to reveal the soft cheese inside. This was already broken, and served in an almost deconstructed way. It honestly looks like a way to cut corners as it was definitely not a whole burrata. That, and the lack of flavor do not make it worth the $17 they charge. My main was better - I ordered the smoked chicken which was a breast on the bone and came with grits, spinach, and honey au jus. This was tasty - the chicken was juicy with crispy skin, and the au jus added a welcome sweetness to the grits and spinach. We opted for dessert because birthday - I chose the carrot cake which was just okay. No nuts, raisins, or noticeable carrots - so, a spice cake? As a side note, we were there during HV Restaurant week, however in lieu of a dedicated menu they offered a prix fixe app/entree/dessert off their menu. It sounded great at face value, but then we were told the portions would be smaller - and for items they couldn't shrink they up-charged if we ordered off the regular menu. IMO, not the best way to do restaurant week - either have a dedicated menu for it or don't participate at all. That being said, we decided to order off the regular menu. Service was good, everyone was friendly and food came out at a good pace. Overall, Freddy's sent me mixed signals - the food wasn't bad, but this isn't a place I would go out of way to try again - it's more of a local spot in my perspective. If circumstances found me here again, though, I wouldn't be mad.

Food just wasn't that good. The table ordered a variety of dishes--mid at best…read more Service was also 2 stars, not friendly at all. Tell my friends to pass or go at your own risk

I am vegetarian and while they have a bunch of veggie appetizers I was disappointed in the complete lack of any vegetarian entree. It's 2026. They have some creative cocktails, GF tried the margarita and liked it enough that she ordered a second. I ordered something with a cheeky name that I believe had vodka and something citrusy/floraly that I also enjoyed. Something kind of strange though, maybe 5-10 minutes after ordering our drinks, another person came over and said "the person who took your drinks didn't get the last 2 so what did you order?" People make mistakes, I get it. Idk how anyone remembers shit anyway but maybe write it down? Either way, it felt strange that someone else came over to say that. It just felt odd. Fortunately our drinks came but we had to flag someone down to order that second margarita later. I ordered the cauliflower and kale soup and the cauliflower fritters mainly because they were 2 of the very limited things I could order but the waiter was a little judge judy (cauliflower soup AND cauliflower fritters?) yes, my guy. The cauliflower and kale soup was under salted which I actually appreciate. I hate when anything is over-salted to the point of drowning out the other flavors. I am impressed by their confidence in the soup to NOT do that but it didn't really stand on its own and was a touch bland. The fritters, on the other hand, were sensational. That roasted beet aioli was delicious and the crispness of the outside of the fritters was a lovely texture. 3/4 of us got our food at least 5 minutes before the last person which is not ideal. Portions were also surprisingly small for the prices.

We also got the tuna tartare, which was just ok. I wish there was a sauce that went with it. The burrata crostinis were also just ok, there wasn't enough burrata and too much fig. My husband got the braised short rib and again that was just okay. We ended with the banana bread pudding which was amazing.

Come early if you can so you don't miss anything. The tour is really cool - I could listen to their seedy stories all day. It is an incredible meal. Everything is fresh, and it's just amazing to try all these flavorful veggies and realize that all food can and should taste this good. Our starters include a fresh stalk of fennel, cucumber with yogurt, spinach lettuce to be snipped with scissors, etc, etc, omg so much more. We got a lot of asparagus and peas made in many ways, and it was magical. There are fascinating food lessons throughout the meal, as we're introduced to the four plants in the buckwheat family with a delicious "horseradish tofu" and buckwheat dumplings in dashi. Purple Passion Asparagus is literally the best vegetable I've ever tasted - all the sweetness of asparagus amplifed with literally none of the unpleasant fibrous stalks. I also loved trying an egg from a waste-fed chicken. The bread was pretty burnt on the bottom so the taste was a bit off-putting. Unfortunate as it was really interesting to try the single udder butters. Getting to see chef Dan up close was awesome (sorry, chef, I'm the weirdo who took 50 photos of you). And yes, I did ask and the staff assured me it was okay. Every table gets a different menu, and I can honestly say I loved everything I ate. Altogether, it's the most amazing experience - I have never sat down to dinner at 5 PM and not left the table until 11, and the food is so fresh and so good that I still felt good after eating so much. My only advice is that you should definitely ask for something if you want it. My fault for forgetting to ask - I would have really liked to try the veal, and it also sucked to get just steak while the table next to me got bone marrow. That said, I would still highly recommend this experience and would absolutely come back for more.

We loved the farm tour that started our evening (eating a stalk of the best asparagus I've ever had plucked straight from the ground was a definite highlight) and getting to learn more about Blue Hill's philosophy of farm to table cooking and using as many parts of each animal as possible. Service was attentive but not stuffy, and everyone we interacted with that night was personable and enthusiastic about their work. For dinner service we sat in a corner booth and listened to the soothing sounds of bird calls interspersed throughout the evening. We began a litany of courses that consisted of the farm's freshest produce of the season, which was delightfully hands-on. Some of our favorites of the evening came later, in the buckwheat 4 ways course and the two types of asparagus, as well as the best celttuce preparation I've had. The field trip to the kitchen was fun and we got some delicious buckwheat chips and cow bone rind brie. Even though we didn't love the toughness of the dairy cow that was served in one of our later plates, I appreciated the thought that went into the conception of the course, and there were more than enough wow/extremely delicious other components & courses to balance that out entirely. As a ceramics enthusiast, a lot of the plateware was also very beautiful, especially the pieces that were sourced from dairy cow bones. What a lovely way to honor all parts of the animal! A tip to try the non-alcoholic beverages/mocktails if you're not otherwise doing a pairing. We had some excellent drinks throughout the night at a very reasonable price point for a restaurant of this caliber and I was thoroughly impressed by the thought and care put into every component of the menu. The beverage menu itself was printed on a lovely map of the grounds and I was able to take one home along with a polaroid of us in the kitchen and a small loaf of whole-wheat bread that I ate with butter in the following week. Just a delightful experience all around and I'll be thinking about it fondly for many years to come!
