We just went to Bistro 146 for Mother's Day and had an amazing experience. I know it's a small detail, but I had a good feeling once the bread was set at the table. The cornbread was delicious and the other bread was fresh with great crust. Next we moved on to the delicious appetizers, of ceviche, Brie and beet salad; prosciutto, endive, and burrata; and the crab cakes. My family is picky when it comes to crab cakes since they have eaten some in Maryland and they found these to be excellent. Our main dishes were perfectly portioned and everyone enjoyed theirs. I wish I could give this seafood bistro 3.5 stars. It's not a 4 on my critical list, but I'd rate it better than just "OK" (which is Yelp's version of 3). We've been here a few times, and I'd classify it as a casual and good neighborhood spot for when you want reasonably good food without anything too fancy. Nothing gave us that "wow" feeling, but everything was tasty. Bistro 146 has an extensive menu. It's almost hard to imagine how they can stock so much variety. Almost everything is fish and seafood. The owner (presumably) is welcoming and we found the service to be attentive. It was a cold and snowy Saturday so the place was pretty empty. Indoors, it was a little cold, so they had space heaters which did the job, but took away from any remaining ambiance (which was sort of lacking already). Everything we shared (among two couples) was tasty, but not distinctly memorable. This is why I'm thinking 3.5 stars ... good and fresh with fine flavors, but thinking back on our dinner two weekends ago, I just cannot place in my mind what I ate or any specific take-away from the meal. Some of the sauces were a bit much for the fish, but overall, enjoyable. We'll go back because of the good price-to-value and consistent "good" (but not all that memorable) quality. read more

Food is fantastic! Among the best seafood in Westchester/Bergen Counties. Service not so good. June 2025 we made reservations for 5 but when we got there they had us down for 4. The owner started arguing with us it was for 4! We told him we weren't going to send our granddaughter to eat somewhere else and he should add a chair. He did but not a good beginning. He wears washed out jeans and looks like the maintenance man, doesn't engage you and his waitresses, while smiley, don't make eye contact and don't engage either conveying a certain coldness in their service. At the end of our meal, despite a few requests, we had to wait 1/2 hour for our check. The room has a nice ambiance but not anything special. So if you want great seafood dishes at moderately high prices and don't care about the service then this is the place for you. I enjoyed my lobster roll and my wife seemed to enjoy the soft shell crab. The Red Pinot she ordered was great and I always enjoy an nice glass of Duvel. The dessert martini was really good. The prices are a bit much considering the portions, but I suppose seafood always sells at a premium. The food was outstanding as was our server. They didn't know it was both our birthdays and allowed us to still come at 8pm and did not push us at all. They say never to go out to eat on Valentine's Day. Maybe the good folks at Bistro 146 were off their game today but my wife and I had an underwhelming experience here. The lone waitress seemed overextended; we overhead a table next to us ask if there was a Valentine's Day menu and apparently there was but we weren't offered one. There was some jarring music playing from a tinny iPad and the interior was a little worse for wear. I was about to get the special Dover Francaise but was then told it was actually Branzino. It was then I started getting a little worried about the experience and decided to go low-key with just some seafood soup despite everyone raving about the fish. My wife had mussels which she really enjoyed. Overall, I'm sure the food is good here but the service and ambiance were off. read more

Excellent restaurant serving fresh seafood. The tower platter, which includes oysters, clams, shrimp, lobster, and lump crab is a wonderful choice when dining with friends. Guests reported that their steak and chicken were also well-prepared. The sides such as steamed spinach and mac n cheese were also delicious. There is nothing mind-blowing about the food. BUT fresh, consistent, and solid offerings go a long way in my book. I would certainly go back, and I would also recommend it to friends. I do wish they served hot butter with their lobster. Food is cooked and served well. The White Cobia Fish tacos on the appetizer menu are top tier, as well as the Sea Sampler. I enjoyed my Bluefin tuna very much as well. They make fancy drinks, I'd recommend to stick to what you normally drink unless you are adventurous. My wife ordered the Sangria and was served in a 12-16oz glass that was filled halfway. The half that was filled was 50% ice and 50% sangria. Walking in I didn't expect much, the decor and lay out of the place is awkward and outdated. We had reservations but still had to wait. We sat down at 7:16 and about five minutes later we ordered food and drinks. 7:43 we got our sodas and two tiny pieces of corn bread. Interesting because everyone else got a loaf of bread AND cornbread. We were joking the whole time how one of us could go home cook and bring back the food in the time it took for our food to come out . They seem to be lacking in help and organization but the staff is friendly. 7:57 the app came. Asked for a refill of soda and it came twenty minutes later with no ice, so half way through it's a warm soda. :-/ finally got the food at about 8:30. The food was delicious. Honestly the food was so good it saved the night. I was prepared to walk out and never think of returning again. But after finishing my dinner I was very happy to have stuck out the wait. I will return to give them once last shot at redeeming their service. Which although nice was horrendous. Was the whole experience worth it? Checked back the menu during the pandemic and they still look good. I ordered the pistachio trout and Branzino. The trout was amazing but my husband find the branzino good but boring. Service is still excellent , friendly faces. They have a space in front of their restaurant that they could have take advantage of but am not sure why they didn't put a tent just like the restaurant next to them most especially now that the weather is getting cold . The birthday girl gets to choose her dinner venue and she chose Bistro 146. I was the last of our party to get there and I had no trouble finding my family. A) it's a small restaurant and B) we are the only people there. Needless to say several (all but me) members of the fam were a little concerned about being the only customers there but we soldiered on and stayed. A couple of appys to start followed by 2 dinners off the menu, 1 special and one person who decided on multiple appetizers for dinner. Came here for the Mother's Day dinner but was not impressed. My favorite dish was seafood linguine - extremely delicious - but portion was quite small. Seafood paella was good too, but served in a plain plate was a downer. Given the high reviews and pricing they set, I was expecting more quite frankly. I think they're room of improvements in areas of food presentation, service, and restaurant exterior/ interior. Inside was very stuffy - didn't feel confident that air was properly circulated. Missing item, cold food and terrible service. Ordered on Seamless and this is what we got. We called the restaurant who said "oh yeah there's another bag here". Blamed it on the driver. You know the driver that has no clue what i ordered since there are sealed bags so they can't check. Refused to take responsibility on them making sure they give everything to the delivery driver and told me to come pick it up. I said no, there's a reason I ordered delivery. Refused to process the refund and told me to deal with Seamless. By far one of the worst restaurant service there is. Person on the phone didn't care. I don't care that their food is good, I refuse to support terrible service. In this day and age anyone can start a business, just because you have a good cook doesn't mean you deserve my money and patronage. read more
