I really like Biryani Pot. I always get an authentic experience. I went on Friday with my Indian friend and this time around she approved that everything served is up to standard comparing it to authentic Indian cooking. However the service was ok simply because I had to ask the server to clean the booth it had water and drinks spilled all over it. He cleaned my side and didn't clean the other side. Until my friend came and got gum stuck to her pants. I get it this is unusual and very disrespectful from the previous diners but still I think it is the waiter responsibility to clean the table and booth after each customer. They were very apologetic and honestly didn't know how to make up for it It is always a fun experience going to this restaurant. Specially they have the cane sugar juicing machine. We ordered it and half of the restaurant was standing there watching them make it Also I tried a new style of biryani Gongura biryani it was delicious. I've been wanting Indian food but wanted to try a new place besides Simi's, India Palace, India Kitchen or Tandoori Palace and looked up restaurants on Google maps in the Medical Center/USAA/UTSA area which might as well be considered Little India and found this restaurant. I walked inside and was acknowledged even though the host said nothing to me and sat me at a table. I was browsing the menu deciding what to order. A table not far from me ordered tandoori chicken that was steaming so much the smoke was irritating my eyes. While the chicken looked delicious, I wanted something else like their house special curry goat, naan and an Indian soda called Thumsup served in a small narrow can akin to a Red Bull but tasted nothing like an energy drink and rather more like a knockoff RC Cola or Pepsi. Minutes later my food arrives. The curry goat had a lot of bones but the meat was tender and fell off easily when I had cut it and they were generous with the naan serving. The curry goat was served with the right amount of spice like I had requested. I would highly recommend Biryani Pot and plan to get the tandoori chicken on my next visit. read more

Where do I start?? I ordered the Palak paneer, samosas and butter naan. What I received was fried to death samosas. Over fried to the point that the samosas were hard as rocks and the stuffing was barely noticeable. Unfortunately, I did not receive the entree I ordered The naan however was very good. I took my 15 month old daughter here for lunch around 12:30pm on a Tuesday. We were greeted immediately when we walked in and the server got us a high chair. He was extremely friendly and even made my daughter laugh. My daughter LOVES Indian food so I was so excited to bring her here for authentic Indian food. We ordered the chicken tikka masala and garlic naan and it came out very fast. She really loved it and I loved it! We asked for a to go box and they gave me a to go bowl with a lid along with foil for the naan and a to go box and a bag. It was great and nothing spilled on the ride home. I went to Biryani Pot earlier today with some coworkers to celebrate a coworker. It's not too big inside but still large enough for groups. We beat the lunch crowd in so it was not crowded when we got there. We were seated promptly and attended to for the entirety of our lunch. I had onion samosas, chicken biryani, and a chai. The food was really good but spicy! Now, I am a wimp when it comes to spicy so ..... I had a chai after eating and it too was delicious. I also enjoyed the licorice dish after lunch which helps to freshen your mouth. We had a great time, the service was fast and attentive, and the food was great! Ordered takeout for dinner and it was pretty good! The food was ready within 20 minutes, which is pretty quick. I got the chili paneer, gobi Manchurian, vegetable noodles, and mango lassi. Their chili paneer is absolutely delicious! I give it a 10/10! The spicy flavors were really good and it's mixed with bell peppers and onions and wow that's my favorite dish to order here. The gobi Manchurian was decent, not the best I've had. I think it's better to order it fresh and eat it immediately versus taking it home where it gets soggy. It did have a nice spicy flavor which I liked. I love eating the gobi manchurian with the vegetable noodles (I've been doing it since I was a kid and highly recommend). We asked to bump it up one level of spice (still the second spiciest)! It was pretty spicy. We were definitely feeling it after the meal, but it was yummy! The goat curry had a lot of flavor. We have tried this place few years back on our visit to san antonio and wanted to try their biryani again. We got there by 6:30pm and place was already busy. They had one table to be cleared and we got seated. We had to flag them down for everything from there, menu, water, silverware. Food was the only thing that came fast to the table. The service is quick, the only thing is the waiting staff tend to hang around the waiting room and forget to ask you if you want drink refills. I'm sure this is an unpopular opinion, but we went to Biryani Pot for the first time, dined in, and really weren't that impressed. We weren't familiar with the portion sizes (huge) so we ended up with a lot (!!) of food. However, it allowed us to try several different things. We tried the chicken tikka masala and butter chicken that are frequently mentioned on Yelp, hoping to be blown away like so many others, but we weren't. Both dishes were too tomato-forward and tasted very similar to each other when they shouldn't be that similar. Chicken chunks are very large, but you won't have a knife unless you ask for one (and when we did, we got one that was slightly dirty and the blade was covered in fingerprints). We also ordered the dum boneless chicken biryani that was on special. We thought the waiter had forgotten to place the order but we had so much food that we didn't mention it. It arrived when we thought we were pretty much full and finished. We gave it a shot since it was freshly delivered, and it was pretty tasty! The Chicken 65 appetizer was big, tasty, and spicy without being too spicy. The lamb sambusa appetizer was delicious. Garlic naan was perfect. Communication was all over the place, and it was difficult to determine with whom we were supposed to communicate. We walked in and a gentleman pointed us to a large table along the wall before redirecting us to a 4-top table on the other side. Just before we sat down, a gentleman bussing tables directed us to a booth he just cleared. The busser asked for our drink order and we asked for two sodas. Another gentleman came and asked for our drink order so we repeated it. We received one canned drink from each, not because they split the task that way, but because neither one realized we wanted two. No ice was offered or provided. We asked the second one for straws and he said no problem. When the sambusas were delivered 5 minutes later by the busser, we asked him for straws and he came back with "sambusa sauce." So, nearly 10 minutes for a straw and the delivery of a main dish when we were almost finished. Really glad we didn't accept the offer for water since I could see the busser repeatedly filling a pitcher at the hand washing sink and filling customer glasses. This might be allowed and OK, but I would rather not know that my water came from a hand washing sink. Maybe it's just me. The place isn't very large. TV centrally hung playing modern Indian pop videos. Beneath it is a pastry/dessert case that isn't refrigerated. Not sure that it's supposed to be, but it's a wooden cabinet with glass doors and a strip light hung inside. Not sure I want my desserts sitting behind lights. We seemed to be sat next to the booth reserved for screaming toddlers since two such families were seated there during our visit. Children don't bother us at all, not even crying children, but parents who don't know how to de-escalate a tantrum do. They seem to do a lot of takeout orders. One central table was dedicated to stacking takeout with no shortage of customers picking up. The menu could be improved. It's huge in selection but the organization of it is awkward. The only menu more awkward is the incomplete one on the website. Overall favorites in order: garlic naan, sambusa, chicken 65, biryani, with the tikka masala and butter chicken tied for last. Each dish could easily feed 3 or 4 people. I would suggest sharing unless you want to bring a lot of food home. This place is clearly popular. We would maybe consider a future visit if we were nearby. Would we go out of our way to drive there? No. read more

The rumors are true!!! Full of flavor and delicious. I got four things. Only liked 2/4 dishes but the ones that I liked were so good it deserves 4 stars. Butter chicken - tasted like chicken tikka masala at other places. The flavors were strong and delicious. This is my favorite! My other favorite was the chicken biryani. It was so good!!! . For once they didn't downplay the spice for the Texan palate. I don't know why but the smell of star abuse in this dish reminds me of pho. Which is maybe why I think this is so delicious. Or just love Indian food in general. Chicken vindaloo - not my favorite. It's a tomato base but a bit too tangy for my liking. Very tangy and sour. Very dissimilar to India palace. To solve this issue I added yogurt and some cream and that did the trick!! Bagara Baingan - this is my least favorite. I like baingan baharta. This is not the same thing. It's a sesame peanut base sauce. The eggplants were small and few. I think next time I see these ingredients for an eggplant dish I'm going to steer clear. There are similar dish like this at other Indian restaurants and they all taste similar and I usually don't like it. So I think this is the last time I will order something like this. This place is located in a more run down location so it's not the nicest place to dine, but very yummy nonetheless. Everything I tried was yum so I would recommend it if you're in the area and craving Indian. Mushroom 65: delicious with a perfect kick. Could not stop eating this. Mango lassi: solid.
