[TL;DR - The best biryani (and spiciest) we've ever had. Staff are nice. Reasonably priced. Decor a bit dull]
Full Review:
One piece of advice I was told by a complete stranger who wouldn't leave the store I was working in at the time was "always look where the locals eat". I knew what he was getting at but I've never really put this idea into practice as I tend to eat out when restaurants are at their quietest.
I came across this piece one night and it was packed with local Indian families all dining. The place was positively abuzz with happy diners. As soon as I saw the crowd I knew that when they say "Authentic Indian Cuisine" on the sign they truly mean authentic Indian cuisine.
This corner restaurant has a simplistic layout and decor of browns and greys. Hard timber floors and wooden tables and chairs are always a plus for me. However the bare tabletops does make the restaurant feel empty. I would suggest some bright and colourful artworks for the walls. The staff were nice and helped us with our order.
The first thing you'll notice when you enter is the delightfully powerful smell of cooking spices which would make anyone salivate in anticipation. You know this place is legit. The menu is simple and straight forward and hosts a great range to choose from. I ordered a Chicken 65 ($10.90) (for real, that is it's name) and the wife ordered a Dum Ka Chicken Biryani ($13.90) and a garlic naan ($2.90). If you order curry and don't get a naan on the side then shame on you.
The order took around 20 minutes to cook. If we waited in the restaurant it could have been quite boring. We ended up walking the streets of Homebush and checking out the other restaurants. Homebush is such a nice and safe place to visit there is no harm going for a walk. After about twenty minutes we picked up our order and took it home.
The Dum Ka chicken biryani was the perfect blend of spices and on a whole was amazing. The Chicken 65 will forever be one of my favourite Indian meals. The flavour is absolutely sensational. At first I didn't find the Chicken 65 spicy and then within about 5 to 6 seconds of chewing the spice erupted in my mouth like some type of crazy Indian volcano. Even with the heat from the spice I couldn't stop eating even though my eyebrows were melting. I've had nicer naan breads but it still tasted lovely. We'll definitely be returning here again. read more
