This place is shady. After botching my wife's donation, and causing a severe hematoma, they blamed…read moreher and refused to pay her. Over two hours of preparation, and administering the procedure, the untrained, incompetent succeeded in serious physical damage, for which they claim no responsibility, in fact being very rude to my wife, and suggesting that she was the problem, not the incompetent staff. They refuse to pay. Beware.

This place is about as transphobic as they come! I went in at 10:00a 6/14, had to go to the court…read morehouse and get a copy of my Court Order allowing my name change and gender marker change. Because the old ID with my dead name that matched my SS card wasn't good enough, even tho it was not expired. So I did, I went to the court and got a copy of the court order. Then I went in today at 10:30 7/17, went through the entire process 3hrs and was told I now needed to take this form to my PCP to be approved for donation. Based on, "This individual is referred for a for a medical evaluation due to reporting a history of medication (which all of mine are approved) and/or condition that caused medical referral." So what I've learned from Freedom plasma aka Immunotek is: Being trans is a medical condition, That they know better than three other donation companies. And instead of operating off of body mass (Recommendations per FDA) they know more and must only operate off of gender.

It's unfortunate to read the only other review of this location, as it's an inaccurate…read morerepresentation of this facility and staff. I have been donating for over a year at the Bowling Green, OH location and I've never ONCE had a bad experience. Sure, sometimes they are swamped with donors, or in need of additional hands, but the high level of quality and care NEVER ceases to impress me!! I would name names of certain staff members that I absolutely love, but they know who they are, and honestly, I haven't met a staff member yet I haven't like and appreciated. In addition to the staff, the facility is clean and still seems brand new, all while not feeling like a "donation center". The operation runs very smoothly from intake to physically donating and I've only experienced delays during peak times or due to a random influx of donors on site. Payment is always on time, my questions are always answered, and if I've ever been deferred, it was due to something of my own doing (ineligible due to increased HR or HCT). So, if you are looking for a trustworthy operation that checks all the boxes, look no further. It's a great way to supplement your income and often times I get in and out so quick, that I'd almost wish it took longer as a break from my day. Well done to everyone and keep up the great work!

Gentle reader, have you ever made an appointment at a medical-related establishment, arrived…read moreon-time at the agreed time, and were told that the doctor is taking their lunch break, and you have to wait about half an hour? I don't remember having -that- experience in thirty years, or even ever! And it wasn't thirty minutes. After sitting in ever-increasing bewilderment and frustration (more about this near the end) for nearly an hour, I had to leave. My heart rate had elevated so much in anger, I doubt I would have been accepted anyway. This visit was originally planned to be a walk-in. Grifols advertises both online on and on the facility's phone announcement that walk-ins are welcome. This is a blatant lie. Like expecting a short wait to meet someone for an appointment. A final note: I'm one of those folks who have a difficult time with sensory overload. The music was constant, far, far too constantly upbeat to be calming (and implicitly, I'd imagine a sense of calm is expected for Grifols procedures), and there was an unsettling obnoxious too loud and too bright game show atmosphere in the entire environment. This might affect or might not affect you, but after nearly an hour of this nonsense, my skin was crawling, my heart rate was up, and I needed to leave. If I had been seen, y'know, nearer to the time of my appointment, I doubt this would have been near so irksome. Maybe I'll return and maybe I won't: this is my first impression and it wasn't good. If I don't edit this document, that impression has not changed. EDIT (10-6-26): The day after that appointment, I decided to get my flu shot. I talked to the pharmacist and I told the pharmacist the highlights. She was aghast. The only trustworthy organization, she said, was the Red Cross. Sure, you don't get paid, but when things are on a more even keel, I want to do that. It feels more legitimate.
