I recently started going to the Westchase Center, which is closer to home. After several visits, I can honestly say I'm a fan. Carla, Ashley and Shonda are my hero's. These ladies really know how to take care of you. Their efficiency and customer service skills are second to none! Even when it's crowded, I've waited no more than 5 minutes for my appointment. I recommend completing the questionnaire on their website, which will decrease the time of your overall visit. My veins are small, they roll and are hard to find at times, but these ladies get it right every time. The center is clean and the chairs are comfortable, and recline back to help you relax. Each station has an individual TV with a remote, so you won't miss your favorite show. There's wi-fi if you choose to surf the web on your phone, or update your Facebook status. Or maybe you're just like me and you're spending that time checking in and commenting on Yelp. Whatever you choose to do, the center can accommodate you. The staff's friendly attitude makes you feel comfortable, and they remind you that giving blood saves lives. You feel like you are doing something positive for the community as the machine drains a pint of blood from your body. Blood is so important to keeping people alive, which is why every donation it called "the gift of life." Please remember to eat a decent meal and drink plenty of water before donating blood. The food will keep you from becoming dizzy and possibly passing out, and the water will hydrate you, which makes your blood flow faster. After donating, you can help yourself to the complimentary water, juice and snacks. If you are not a current donor, I urge you to rethink your position because you may need "the gift of life" one day.

From check-in till the time I finished was a 45 minute process. The staff here are so so kind! Everyone is super friendly and have great attitudes. My personal phlebotomist who took care of me today did a wonderful job at providing great service. She was friendly, kind, very attentive to me. They even made me a goodie bag for my birthday and I received a ticket to the Galveston Mardi Gras! Such a wonderful experience. I'll be sure to be back soon to donate!

As soon as I arrived to the spot were they drew blood, the first thing that she said to me was "what is wrong" in an aggressive tone. I replied that saying good morning , she kept asking me more than three times aggressively "what's wrong?" I tried to explain her about costumer service and she said "I don't care." My experience was horrible. The only professional person there is Josh, he is very respectful and kind. He is not like the others horrible workers there. I have decided for my health to never go back to that location.

From check-in to the chair, everyone made the process smooth and comfortable. On my most recent visit, I donated platelets for the first time at their request and it went great. They explained everything clearly, checked on me throughout, and made sure I was comfortable the whole time. The process is actually not as time consuming as one may think, on average your out of there in 20min. They sit you down in a room to do a questionare on computer. Next they prick your finger to check your blood iron to see if your eligible for donation, sometimes you may not have a rich iron diet and your Hct maybe too low to donate so if your planning on donating anytime soon, you should eat iron rich foods for the week and make sure to wash it down with OJ as vitamin C assists absorption of iron ;) Also if your a tea drinker its suggested not to that week as tea blocks iron from absorbing. After the vital signs, the paperwork is done, its time! The phlebotomist was reassuring as she preps your arm and your comfortably lying down... I recommend just not looking the entire time so it doesnt hit you! I was texting the entire time I was hooked up, and taking pictures! Its not too bad at all, just get up slowly, you may experience a little vertigo or hypotension. The give you juice and cookies there after and your outta there! The blood drives that are hosted around town may give you t shirts, gift certificates or discounts. The most important thing you get out of this is KNOWING YOU SAVED A LIFE or several... depending how your blood is dispensed, whole or divided into platelets or plasma, so see your doing a good thing! You dont even need an appointment, I just happened to drive by and saw the fairly new location on the way home... Locations all over too!
