I've been coming to this specific Biolife location for 6 months and every time they're clean, professional and organized. The process is very straightforward and if you're new to it just remember they cannot rush a process that quite literally involves extracting something from a human body. You know how sometimes you walk into an office or store and there are very clearly employees looking unengaged and not into their job? I don't see that here. They always look like they're busy and it's probably because they are. Now the environment... It's the only reason I don't give this place a full 5 stars. While I understand it's meant to be a clean sterile environment I think the repetition of the same music and lack of atmosphere make it a very dreary place to visit. I don't expect rainbows and butterflies just some variety in the music and ambience sometimes to deter you from feeling like you're just being harvested. read more

The Good: Clean medical office. The Bad: Verrrry Sloooooow! Used up five hours of a workday--awkward to get to without a car, and now expensive now that Metro charges about $7 to get there, and even though I got there 30 minutes before the appointment, took two hours to be seen (first-timer). The Ugly--couldn't donate because I was there 116 days after an outpatient procedure rather than 120 days. After all that waiting time, I was told I would have to come back(!) to get my GP's approval to donate, then come back to submit it. Getting GP approval is fair enough--but why can't I be emailed the form instead of coming back for two more rounds of welfare-office lengths of waiting? Also, not one phone call (out of 20?) has ever been answered or returned; no email and no voicemail has ever received a response. I haven't been there since 1/31/24 because the weekly offers were so low and the distance wasn't worth my time . I finally received an offer for this week which I thought was fair and made the required 2 appointments to receive the payout . I went in today and attempted to log on but it said I needed a check - up , as if I was a brand new donor . I WAS LIVID BECAUSE I WASN'T INFORMED I NEEDED TO GO THROUGH THAT AGAIN . There was a line 15 + long with ppl leaning against the walls .I initially went in ANOTHER line to ask if I needed to go thru the entire check- up process again but as usual, total chaos and ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE. **Beware: This place is running some sort of scam!** I made two donations, and after the second one, all my funds--close to $200--were stolen from my account. I've never lost my card or shared my information with anyone, but apparently fraud can be committed with their debit cards according to Reddit. There was one bank deposit for $100 and several Uber Eats and DoorDash purchases in San Francisco made with my card. I called the number on the debit card, and the customer service representative accused me of making the transactions, saying, "You clearly made these transactions." I was extremely offended and asked to speak a supervisor immediately. After speaking to his supervisor, I was given a form to fill out and told the entire process would take 30-45 days to complete. I'm not sure how this happened, but I highly suspect the staff is involved. They are very unprofessional and rude. Staff at the front of the house is professional, the donation staff is severely understaffed. The initial approval required additional information from my primary care Dr. I dropped it off the day after my first exam. Was told the Dr had to approve. It took 3 weeks and 3 visits to the center. First donation took 5 hours. I am back for second donation appointment at 1245 and it is now 345 and I am waiting to be hooked up, Major inconvenience they should pay me a bonus. If this is the way the place is run I will not be donating going forward. Not worth my time! You can make more money at a minimum wage job. read more

They need more beds, staff, and resources. That or close it down. People come in for appointments and have to wait 2hrs to be sat..no fault to the staff..but the powers that be. I would highly recommend visiting the other plasma places in the area. And if for some reason you still choose to donate at Bio Life then be FULLY PREPARED to spend (at the minimum) 3hrs before you even get to the chair to donate. I don't know if it's a lack of staff or an over abundance of people donation that causes this facility to operate at a such a painstakingly slow pace. They have it set up for returning donors to select an "appointed time" they chose to donate, but I don't see the purpose of that because that time is never honored. I certainly don't want to discourage anyone from donating here but I do want to encourage BioLife to adjust their processes and make the facility more comfortable. The staff was friendly and professional and the screening process began promptly when I arrived. Prior to scheduling my appointment, I read all the information on their site as well as some other sites and did my best to prepare in every way possible. Unfortunately, I was not eligible to donate due to a past surgery. What I find frustrating was the number of steps I had to go through (registration, identity verification, blood pressure check, blood sample draw and testing, someone checking my veins, speaking to 2 nurses about a medical condition, lengthy computer questionnaire) prior to meeting with the nurse who ultimately had to turn me away. Now this facility has an obscene amount of personal information about me, a blood sample, and my fingerprints, and I will never be eligible to donate. I would recommend an online preliminary screening, or at the very least that the in-office screening be completed earlier in the process. Yes, you need to know if my iron and protein levels are sufficient when I donate, but had I been fully screened and then they were found to be low, I could have returned another day. Not trying to be overly critical, but when you're sitting around for an hour and a half for the screening process, chairs with no arms are not comfortable for everyone and I overheard a potential donor with an assistive device saying she would stand as the chairs were too difficult for her to get in and out of. I also made it a point to hydrate in advance but did not think to bring a water bottle, which I regretted. About an hour in I began looking around wondering why they would encourage people to drink plenty of fluids prior to donating but not provide water. I would like to thank the gracious staff who did their best to make it a pleasant experience. BioLife needs to look at what they can do to better support their staff and visitors. read more

Very sad to see how this place has transitioned from being super efficient and friendly to extremely slow and rude. I've been a doner here almost 2 years now. Used to be in and out in less than an hour. Now you have to plan to be here for half the day just to get screened and sit in a Doner bed. Then another 30 minutes to get connected to the machine. Last week I was here for 3.5 hours one day and still didn't even get connected so I left without donating. What's more is they have the nerve to send notifications saying they need donations, but they don't have the capability of receiving donations efficiently. As a doner you have a 10 exact minutes window to make your appointment or you're turned away. How absurd, you respect their time but they never respect yours. Can't even ask anyone about the long wait, they get upset and blame it on corporate. One employee (female with lab coat) even told me if I didn't like the wait or the "way they do things" (i.e scheduling every 5 min) then I could choose a different center. Just something to be aware of... your veins have to be perfect for them to accept the donation. For whatever reason, I have deep veins in my arms. Every time I get my blood drawn or try to donate blood, I'm told that I'm dehydrated. I drink AT LEAST a gallon of water every day. I wish they would take blood from one of the bulging veins in my hands like phlebotomists do, but I guess that isn't an option. Also, they don't offer any snacks or water like other plasma-donating locations. read more

Not friendly. Not efficient. Waited 4 hours for a screening just for them to say I was not eligible because of medication I am on. Medication I clearly listed on the website and was approved. I have tried making appointments at different times throughout the day but there always seems to be a delay with each step. I have waited in a bed for 30 minutes before being hooked up to a machine. The email they send says drink 48-64 ounces of water and the website says half your body weight if you have had a gallon and half they won't take you. If you have arm tattoos on the vein area they won't test that one either. Don't waste the time on the drive. read more

I went twice and will never return. The first time took over 3 hours. The second time I used my "Skip the appointment/Skip the line" coupon and got to my chair. I waited 45 minutes until the procedure started. The woman employee rushed and gave my left arm a hematoma. She then asked another employee to help me. About 20 minutes later, the second woman stuck my other arm only to tell me there was a problem with my blood clotting the machine. I jokingly asked if everything was ok and she said 2 employees called in sick and they were severely understaffed hence the quick needle in my arm missing/collapsing/puncturing the vein causing the hematoma. That night in the shower my arm looked like I had a marble stuck under my skin because it swelled so bad. I am deeply saddened how unprofessional, understaffed, and overworked these people are. Very rarely am I in and out in under 2 hours despite the fact that appointments are scheduled and it only takes me 45 minutes to donate. My son has been donating here regularly. Two of his visits were without incident - the majority were poor. This last visit today was the worst. He was stuck with a ?phlebotomist who was, to be gracious, grossly incompetent. This lady, Shanika, was unable to cannulate properly, a single vein on either arm and ended up unable to complete the plasma draw because she simply did such a lousy job getting a needle into a vein which quite frankly a blind man could have done from a mile away. Less than 8 hours ago, I arrived at this Biolife Plasma Services center in Riverdale Maryland. I had scheduled an appointment at this center through their online portal to see if I would be eligible to be a donor. I looked up this center online some time after unexpectedly hearing about this company through a radio commercial via a classic rock radio station based in the metropolitian Washington D.C. area (Big 100). I am fortunate to have had the chance to be seen and screened before my original appointment timeframe. The receptionist handling my preliminary screening was friendly/courteous and the employees handling the processing to see if I would be eligible to be a donor were also reasonable to work with. If I heard correctly one of the employees explained that one of the veins on my arms indicated that I needed to drink more fluids before I would be more ready to be a donor. I completely understand because I admit that I could have consumed more liquids prior to this appointment and I intend to keep this in mind for the next time I return for my next appointment. read more

a disabled army veteran who signed up in md @ riverdale park location, had an appt for last friday, but had to travel to st louis, mo for my sisters funeral. i called and told the location so that they could transfer me temp, since i will be here for 3 weeks---i talked to them on monday, on 8/31, in the morning, they told me that they would transfer it in there system and call me back by the end of the day, monday....it's thursday now, i have called them 4 times an hour everydays since tuesday, both phone numbers go to voicemail, i've left 4 msgs, even stl, mo location has called several times and left an email to the mgr there.....so i cant get the $200 bonus for my 2nd donation for the bonus, and wasted 4 days sitting, i am oneg...needed the money, so now, i will go to csl or octopharma...been with bio since april this year. good luck everyone. i'm confused, how can a place that is so essential to the pandemic can afford to have 2 phone lines going to vm for 4 days, not returning vms or let alone not answer phone calls...for 4 days at a plasma center???????!!!!!! read more
