Just had my first experience here donating plasma this week. Although the check in process the first time was quite lengthy, I have nothing but positive things to say about the staff. They were professional, efficient and caring. The real MVP of the day was my phlebotomist Nayeli. It was the most gentle phlebotomy experience I've ever had, making the entire experience extremely worthwhile. Huge thank you to her for the expertise in her craft, I hope I get her every time The way some patients were treating the staff during my only encounter there was truly shocking. So anyone who doesn't go based on reviews online should definitely go check it out for themselves. I dealt with at least 10 incredibly compassionate people working there. I did get turned away the second appt due to my bruising, but they did it nicely and with a great explanation why. No need to yell at the staff who are simply doing their job. If you get turned away, handle it gracefully and come back another time instead of yelling and being rude. Can't wait to go back. Earning a little money while doing something that helps a lot of people is a win in my book. read more

Most of the staff at BioLife are really friendly and welcoming, which I appreciate. The place is usually pretty packed, so you do have to be a little patient, but the staff really tries their best to keep things moving and make sure everyone is doing okay. My only issue is that there are two specific girls who tend to hurt my arm when placing the needle. That being said, they're always very nice and constantly check in to make sure everything is going well, so I still appreciate their kindness and professionalism. If you're planning to donate, definitely remember to drink plenty of water beforehand and eat a good meal before going. Also, be prepared to be there for a while your first visit--mine took about two hours since there's paperwork and the initial screening. One thing I've noticed is that every once in a while you'll see donors being rude to the staff, which is unfortunate because the employees are clearly working hard and doing the best they can in a busy environment. Unethical. This location messed up my chart over a year ago and refuse to fix my health history. The manager Sam and the nurse Harmondeep were fully aware and did nothing to fix the issue. Instead they gaslit me twice, once during the physical and the second time when I went to speak to the "manager." The nurse refused to identify herself and the manager refused to give me her name in order to prevent me from filing a formal grievance with the licensing board. Donating at this location will put your health at risk. The quality of care is poor and the customer service even worse. read more

Have gone to donate twice. After my 5th attempt I finally got to donate. I was excited to see how much they give bc I sat there for a cool 30 min donating only to find out it was only 40$ both times. I went back a second time to see if they give you more (as I heard) but no I got 35$ then next time instead. I don't think taking so much of your blood is worth 40$ so they can sell it for thousands themselves. Unless you're in serious need of a small amount of cash I recommend. But the Modesto location definitely be skimping. read more

I went to my appt today. It's almost time for my yearly physical. I booked two appointments in advance. Tonight appt was at 6:05pm. I made it in 5 minutes early. The vital line is all the way to the women's restroom. That's how long it is. I take my questionnaire and it prompt me for my physical. Sure, nothing changed. I take the 104 questions and waited in line for 45 MINUTES. I get to take my vitals and the newer sweet girl seemed confused, and so am I. She asked if I'm taking my physical. I said I think so. And she like or is it a donation or both. And I said I believe both. She calls another new person over, and she says I need to see a nurse. And I'll just donate today and do a physical another day. ANOTHER phlebotomist comes over and looks at my profile and says that they took their last physical for the night and I can't be seen today. I can't donate, can't be seen for a physical cause it takes about an hour but my year date isn't up yet. I just walked out. I waited in that DAMN LINE FOR 45 minutes! But ima upload my photo of my future donation and physical. Cause this is in fact the same thing I booked today but it's gone now since I didn't get seen for my appointment. read more

I came in last Friday, I switch my arms around to allow some relief in btw appnts. I do understand that sometimes it's harder to get my vein on my arm. This girl with rhinestones in the teeth, glasses and pink hair missed my vein. She started to move the needle around, she asked how does it feel? I said "like stabbing". She kept digging the needle around and I said "omg please stop, can you try my other arm"? I clearly expressed my physical pain however I stayed calm the whole time never once did I not say please and thank you. Her body language changed completely. She switched to my other arm without saying a word I could see she was bothered by it. I still said thank you before she walked away. I came in on Tuesday to my surprise I was not able to log in. It directed me to the front desk. Here comes the so called "manager" she said "oh, the nite says you were RUDE to my staff".. I was confused? I asked "rude? How? In what way?" She said "I don't know, but that's what it says". I tried to explain myself and showed her my arm but she never once looked my way. She kept typing away and completely dismissed me. "We don't tolerate anyone being rude to our staff, if this happens again, we will ask you to leave". I said "ok thank you". I feel terrible. Because of what happened. How they made me feel. I've been in a medical field for over 20yrs, I will not take accountability on a false statement. You should review cameras before approaching individuals. Could this have been approached differently? 100% I am very quiet and mind my own business when I come in with my headphones. I understand that staff is really young and inexperienced but this is no excuse. If you take someone else's pain personally, then you are in the wrong field. This place is great for anyone 18+ who is healthy and looking to make some extra money by donating their plasma which can be used to save immunocompromised people. So far Ive had a great experience donating, Im able to lay there and donate plasma comfortably, while watching Netflix or playing a game while connected to their guest WiFi. The phlebotomists are kind and attentive, some more than others. Im very happy that I was to complete all my donations in order to receive my $800 sign on bonus promo, (at the time of my sign up it was $800 but that amount changes sometimes so visit their website) If it's your first time, I'd recommend bringing a throw blanket because it gets cold, bring a book, iPad, phone, mp3, something to keep you busy as you might be there up to an hour depending on how well your blood is flowing. Also bring a squeeze toy, something like a stress ball because it will help you pump your arm to get the blood flowing while you donate, it's more effective than your bare hand. read more

There was a few things that bothered me. But also a few I liked the cons : a young lady named Stephanie she was by far rude. Sarcastic clearly having a bad day and didn't need to draw. She blew my first arm and on the second arm she smacked her lip and asked if I've even had water. At that point from waiting for how long I was I didn't even want to to be there, but then Cali came up tk me check in me was by far more approachable and liked that she was checking in on everyone she stayed with a smile she definitely was a nice touch thank you bio life her her so 5 stars to Acali and her sweet voice and 2 stars to Stephanie - maybe wake up on the right side of the bed read more

I don't usually complain but this needs to be addressed by corporate BioLife. The Modesto facility NEEDS HELP!! More Counter Check in Employees. The past 3 times I have been there they are Short Staffed. I used to go earlier in the day but had to switch to afternoons. I cannot believe only (2) people at the counter & all plasma draw machines full, plus (8) donors waiting!! I was 15 minutes early but can only check in 10 minutes early my appointment was 12:45. I left because my time is "valuable" also. I do not want to spend 2 1/2 hours as a Donor. Please HIRE more people!! read more

***Posting this witnessing my BF's experience*** Most of the staff is friendly, professional and welcoming. What absolutely ruins the experience that results into this negative review is the employee Samuel. Every single time that my bf has been helped by Samuel he is absolutely, incredibly rude. Not only does he speak to him in a rude and mean tone of voice...I've witnessed him be a huge C U Next Tuesday to other patients who he's helped also. His attitude is aggressive, he mumbles and speaks so quickly that you could barely even understand what he is saying. He is just a huge pile of NEGATIVE energy in that office. And those poor keys in the keyboards that he uses take a beating every time he has to input any information. It's very unfortunate that BioLife has someone like this employed at their facility. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way who has been helped by Samuel. Rating one star because unable to leave zero stars ****MY EXPERIENCE WHEN TRYING TO DONATE*** OH! And will deny you donations because you don't capitulate to their absolute authority... Which they can barely articulate the instructions on what they need. They said I needed a p d f of my social security number. I showed them a picture and they said that's not a p d f... When it literally was... I had contact them twice before. About what they needed? And all. They said was I needed to know my social security number. Not that I needed the original p d f documentation... Beware! Their emails telling you what to do to prepare for your appointment do not match what they tell you in person once you are there. Email says eat a "healthy meal 2-3 hours prior to appointment", the lady checking me in says it must be "a carbohydrate heavy meal with protein one hour prior to visit" and she rejected me because I didn't eat carbohydrates. No where in the email does it say anything about eating specifically carbohydrates and protein. It says avoid fatty meals, alcohol and caffeine nothing else. Really confused about their blood pressure machines... I had a doctor's appointment with my primary care physician one hour before my plasma donation was set to begin. At my doctor's appointment my blood pressure was 122/68, so absolutely perfect! My doctor is thrilled and so am I! I arrive to donate plasma and my blood pressure is 141/100! Wait. How, and are you serious?! And I'm almost 8 lbs more than at Kaiser?! My doctor has sent notes in saying I'm perfectly healthy and I workout daily. I am in perfect health. Their blood pressure cuffs are so off! This needs to be investigated. read more

First of all, the initial consultation is nerve-racking then they treat you like crap when you're on the initial consultation so we're not even friendly some do not even smile. Some do not even talk with you then you have to wait two hours to see the nurse. It's a three hour visit give or take and all of this for seven to $800 and that's if you meet every visit for the first month if you skip a visit then you lose out on the money read the fried print people please because that's something I didn't do so after the initial $800 give or take they want to set you up for $114 a week which isn't bad but for the time that you have to give and for the way this place is ran it's like Cattle. They don't even give you time enough to do anything get you and get you out sometimes they don't even have enough saline to even help you with then they wanna give you bio engineered crap to have you snack on some of the people don't even know what they're doing when it comes to taking the blood. They need more experience and they don't got it. when they make a mistake, they wanna blame you as the person and not themselves. Nobody takes blame over there. It's always the other person all of this for $114 a week. I've been to this location multiple times now and each time has been a pleasant enough experience. The staff have all been attentive and polite. It's a busy place and seems to run smoothly from what I've seen. Any wait times I've had, considering the number of people coming through this place, have been nothing to complain about or unreasonably long. The facility is also clean and nice. I donated plasma in the Midwest regularly with my cousin. It started because we have an aunt that uses plasma. It was wonderful, we made friends with staff and regulars and made extra money for a nice dinner afterwards. This center is absolutely outrageous, the staff is rude and incompetent. There was one nurse in the three separate times I went that was helpful and kind, a tall blonde gal. Everyone else acted like I was wasting their time while they had no problem wasting hours of my time each visit. If I could leave 0 stars I would. If you can afford to drive to a different plasma center I recommend doing so. read more

I tried four times to try to get on the list to donate blood. Which took four days and I was turned away for various reasons, including the original Social Security number of mine as well as they said I was too old at 78. The nursing harridans are hollow-eyed bureaucrats in scrubs, more devoted to upholding the company's labyrinthine CYA policies than actually facilitating donations. They move with the cold efficiency of flesh-wrapped automata, their imperious bedside manner worthy of bygone regimes--the Khmer Rouge, the Fatherland Youth, the St. Lamentus Boarding School, or other nightmare scenarios like Cerberus suddenly reassigned to guard the Pearly Gates. One can easily imagine them as enforcers for the Architect of the Matrix, or perhaps loyal functionaries of Skynet, ensuring that humanity remains properly culled and cataloged--barring a donor who had the audacity to blaspheme against policy by drinking a nutrition shake instead of approved mucilaginous oatmeal or other choke-worthy carbs, or daring to consume a mere two ounces less than the mandatorily "recommended" amount. Biolife must have a surplus of product, if they can treat donors like cattle to be culled instead of busy professionals with jobs, children and obligations, who cannot "just come back another time!" Three appointments and hours of wasted time. First a medication deferral, then they screwed up in the system and denied me again for the same medication deferral. No note in the system showing I'd already gotten my doctor's approval. Third appointment they make the tattoo excuse in my left arm (which they had no issues with the first two appointments) and then tell me I'm too dehydrated to donate. I'd drunk over 100oz of water that day, then she tells me more electrolytes. They practically pushed me out the door, no followup appointment. Nothing. Don't bother if you're visibly LGBT. They mislabeled me constantly, asked extremely personal and invasive questions about my past surgeries and medical history, and wasted my time for nothing. I have a complaint in and a request to delete my data. According to a BioLife employee from another state that I spoke to, there's zero reason why they should be asking for information on every single surgery you've had in your entire life.
