Dr Hoffarth (Kevin) My first attempt at weight loss was at the age of 10 when I joined weight watchers with my mother. By the time I was in high school I was about 30 pounds overweight then began to gain. I found myself this year 2014 at the age of 52 weighing 315 pounds, I have tried many times to lose weight, I would lose 20 to 40 pounds and put it back on again. Being out of shape and overweight along with a personal and family history of heart disease I have reached a point of desperation, to the point of considering a gastric bypass. Being a registered nurse I know it is not a healthy way to lose weight and get in shape. Instead I chose to see Dr. Hoffarth at BioFIT I have known Kevin for about 10 years while working in the intensive care unit at the same hospital as his previous practice. Because of my personal knowledge of his medical background and professionalism, I chose to fly from California to Texas for a consult. This has been the best decision ever. The lab work alone has revealed a future of adult onset diabetes that he caught early and is now treating to prevent it. My Cholesterol panel that an average physician would order was perfectly normal, yet Kevin digs deeper ordering a breakdown of cholesterol particles and in my case revealing dangerous levels of the smaller particles, he is treating this as well. My markers showing inflammation in arteries including coronary arteries were high; this inflammation can cause soft plaque to rupture causing a heart attack. Kevin is treating this aggressively with medication, diet and exercise. He found my thyroid was not putting out as it should and is treating this as well. This appointment was the wake-up call I needed, but what makes Kevin exceptional is he puts the tools in your toolbox to help you to be successful in reaching your goals. He spent time with me explaining how to think about food making it simple and fun. He has kept in touch with me monitoring my progress, adjusting medication if needed and is a phone call away if I need him. Dr Hoffarth uses a consultative approach to medicine that is unique in my experience within the medical field. Not only does he perform extremely detailed tests (blood & dexa), but he takes the time to sit down and explain the results. He asks how I feel and actually listens to my feedback. He helped me set my top priorities to fix the issues identified by my blood work, and he was available by email to answer my questions in between appointments. With his help, I was able to fix sleep, thyroid, and cortisol within 12 weeks of starting treatment, bringing them all into normal ranges on my follow up blood test.
