We came here to get rid of old chainlink fence, a lot of wood and random items. While you have to unload yourself the whole process was really easy. The only thing that was a little difficult were the directions: make sure to follow the residential signs rather than the commercial dump signs.

Especially if the junk you have is more than the garbage workers can handle. For a long time we have had bedding frames that should have been removed by Bob's Discount Furniture. The people assigned to remove the bedding refused to take frames. Long story short,...the hell with Bob's Discount Furniture. Today, I am taking the bed flats to The Montgomery County Shady Grove Transfer Station and Recycling Center. When I lived in Rockville, I remember passing this place a number of times and never gave it a second thought. The signs for where to go aren't to clear, but once you enter through the main gates it pretty much a direct path. Once you get to the top of the hill, the garbage waste is on the left. There is also a place to get rid of unwanted oil. If you go to the left, the first station you will see on your right is the electronics center. This is for unwanted computers, tv's, playstation, xbox and holiday lights to name a few. Behind the electronics disposable is the paper recycling center. Unwanted bicycles are sometimes deposited here as well. The next location is for Residential Oil Waste. I have not needed to visit this location except for driving around it. Getting rid of the planks from our old bed was very satisfying. Granted I would have like to recycle the wood, but I had more issues with trying to recycle wood "the right way", that I no longer cared what happened to the wood. Nevertheless, in just a few short minutes I was able to get rid of what I did not want. This place makes the Virginia Recycling Center look like child's play. My plan is to get rid of the last three sections of our old bed by next week. We will see what happens when that time comes.

It took an hour and a half and they charged us for an extra quarter hour (so 2.25 hours). I think it's likely not a coincidence that it's an amount that doesn't seem fighting about for people who are tired from moving. Tack on an extra quarter hour to everyone and make an extra tens of thousands of dollars a year from people just not bothering to complain. The movers were more or less fine but did not take great care with our stuff--e.g. they moved a bedframe down stairs without breaking it down. Collapsing the thing would have saved them time and would have prevented a couple scrapes.
