The staff was so nice and helpful, definitely the small town family feeling though it's a chain grocery store. During this visit, I needed a specific cut of meat and they did a great job trimming it. Meat section was well kept and everything looked fresh. Also love the vanilla whipped cream on white cake from here too. It's very airy and delightful, always a good treat. Wish I had gotten the bigger sheet cake. Recommend if you need groceries. Such a great deli selection too!

My parents wanted to start a business for my mom after being out of work. They both decided to open a grocery store in Valdese, NC on April 13, 2007. The store was named Garden Market Oriental Food. In 2009 we bought a building with its own property. My parents quickly decided to take the offer and we moved the store. A year or two afterwards we changed and finalize our name from Garden Market Oriental Food to Xieng Khouang Market Place. We have been open for 10 years and still attracting new and old customers.

The sign has faded, and could use an upgrade since I couldn't even tell it was open if not for the cars parked outside. There was a solid working crowd ordering when I walked in. The grocery store itself is just a legacy at this point. Good spice rack selection, but then the next section to stick out is a stack of DVDs and PS3 games beside some soft drinks and chip bags. It seems most customers were ordering cold meats and subs, but I decided to go with the basic burger with mustard and pimento cheese. It was heavenly. It did cost $6, which is a little on the pricy side for Morganton, but I'm happy to have finally stopped by. Definitely a hidden gem, and I'll have to check out the ham or a sub next time I'm visiting.
