I would like to recommend Artesana to anyone who hasn't tried it yet. Yesterday my husband and I stopped by for the first time and it was wonderful. The ice cream, which is all made in-house, was absolutely delicious! But beyond that, the menu is color-coded so those of us with a nut allergy can see immediately which flavors to avoid. Also color-coded are flavors that are gluten free and those that are vegan. In addition, they use separate scoops to avoid cross contamination. Thank you Artesana for taking such good care of your customers. We will be back! read more

Ice cream from this place pops up around the region in other stores and food trucks; it is apparently the local standard. I was impressed with the variety of flavors and there were ample vegan options. Indeed, my banana split contained one sorbet, one non-dairy cream, and one conventional dairy ice cream. For the price, it was a monstrously sized dessert in today's economy, and I struggled to find room for any more meals thereafter. The peach sorbet hit a strong flavor note, and the non-dairy chocolate was smooth, but I could still tell the difference in complexity of flavor upon reaching the mint chip ice cream at the end. Devouring various toppings, I was left more than satisfied. The shop had only one person working and I was lucky to get in on the early end of a rush. read more

Stopped in right as the fireworks ended on the 4th and I'm glad we were there when we were, as we left the line was out the door! They were sold out of quite a few flavors but it was very busy that night. As soon as we walked in (around 10pm) we were greeted by the nice staff and they got our bowls out fast! Very easy ordering system up at the counter with a board of flavors and how to order next to it. I can't wait to try the butter pecan. read more

Everything about Artesana was just perfect! I had the specialty flavor of cherry amaretto & my partner had the raspberry lemon pie sherbet. They were absolutely delicious! Staff is warm, welcoming & very hospitable. Best part is everything is all natural & made in store! read more

What a delightful way to cap our Valentine's Day in Marion! The clerk let us try some ice cream flavors and review the tea options, after which she successfully upsold us from the Dessert Special to the Valentine's Day Special -- to which she added more chocolate-covered strawberries than we were promised! Even though it was near closing time, we never felt rushed. Thank you for accommodating us on a wonderful holiday! read more

Walked up at 7:40 20 minutes before closing. We could clearly see the open sign saying they was open and don't close till 8. We got the the door an seen the workers in there. Guess what they had the doors locked and wouldn't even look or way. So we turned to walk off and they ran to the light switches and turned them all off. Poor service of you ask me. read more

There was only one person working the front when we arrived. We were looking forward to trying this place, as we've seen good reviews. The girl was doing the best she could, but there was a family of four waiting on their ice cream when she took our order. Six more folks walked in after we ordered. Two waited and eventually ordered, but four left. The ice cream was good, but I was given the wrong kind. As it was in a sundae, I didn't realize it until I started to eat it. Was not going to wait again for it to be corrected. We probably won't go back. There definitely needs to be two employees there all the time. read more

This was a gem of a find! The ice cream was rich and creamy so even a small amount was satusfying. They also had lots of seating for a popular place. I personally got one scoop of salted caramel and it was amazing! read more

If you're an ice cream fan, and you're in the area, definitely stop by. They have a cheesecake berry ice cream which really captures the taste of cheesecake very well. Its a unique flavor you won't find anywhere else. read more

We were driving back from Asheville to Charlotte and wanted to stop somewhere local for ice cream. I found Artesana on Yelp off I-40, so we decided to make a pit stop. It's located in downtown Marion, which was pretty desolate on the Friday evening we stopped. Artesana was open, though. I ordered the two scoop cup with two different flavors - Banana Chocolate Chip and Dark Chocolate Habanero. Both were delicious, and both were BIG scoops. The banana flavor was very prevalent, and the dark chocolate was dark and creamy. The habanero gave the ice cream a little kick, but not too excessively. It's worth a try! read more

Excellent ice cream from all natural ingredients - local when possible! Everything is made in house. The owner waited on us and was quick with the samples. Once he has an idea of your tastes, he makes recommendations to narrow down your selection. So many different flavors and options. Ice cream sweetened by honey only or even naturally sugar free. I tried Vegan ice cream for the first time (Pineapple) and it was fantastic - I didn't know if I was supposed to feel like I was missing out on something, but I wasn't ! Three of us each got single kid sized scoops in waffle cones for only $6 all together - I felt like we robbed the place! Great ice cream made by great people! read more

We bought some from a local store. Not my idea of good ice cream. It was very icy, lkke it had thawed and refrozen a lot...not creamy like good ice cream is. Could not handle the texture. read more

Great small town shop. The ice cream has the taste of homemade bliss. Don't walk or drive by. Stop in and stay for a genuine treat.

Went by and it was closed even though all time listings start it's open at 3pm on Thursday. No sign up explaining. Nothing. Giving four stars bc I don't know the situation but communication and correct hours are appreciated. read more

Best Ice Cream EVER!! The people are so kind and polite. Pricy but worth it. I hope they continue to do well.

Stopped at this place on a Sunday around 5:00pm while out for a motorcycle ride and so glad we did! They were out of 3 of the flavors we initially picked from the busy weekend, but that just forced us to try something new. Lots of yummy, unique flavors to choose from!!! If you are looking for something different in ice cream, this is the place to go!

Fantastic place. Little bit off 40. All the ice cream is sweetened with honey and man it's good. Good service and selection. It's a cool little historic town there - not so much touristy but just an old town but still in good shape. Nice to walk outside up and down the street. Will return read more

Amazing ice cream, friendly business! They have a lot of different options! Even big foot trax which is really cool since Marion has a big foot festival every year! (Beginning this year) read more

Superb ice cream. Great ice cream is about both flavor and texture. Artesana nails both. They amp the flavors up just enough that they are pronounced and distinct. This is critical since the cold dampens the taste buds. The real achievement here, however, is the texture. Fine ice crystal enhance the creaminess without washing out the flavors. Cheap ice cream does this with stabilizers and other additives. That's not the case here. Artesana makes excellent ice cream that is certainly the best in Marion and among the best I've ever had, since I consider myself an ice cream aficionado, this is high praise. Give it a try. You won't be disappointed. read more

Five stars for an incredible local ice cream shop! My husband and I had the cookies and cream flavor and it was so delicious. They have several vegan options and they used honey to sweeten the ice cream instead of sugar! I think the honey makes the flavors even more defined - all of the ones we tried were amazing. The couple that owns the shop are very sweet too. You won't regret a stop to Artesana. We're from out of town but next time we're in the area, we'll be back! read more

Icecream is amazing and owner is so sweet and knowledgable. Best place for icecream in McDowell County.

Delicious ice cream, friendly people, an awesome dessert experience. I (a grown man) ordered two regular scoops in a waffle cone - which was plenty of ice cream for me. My teenagers had single scoops and were happy. The two people behind the counter (owners?) could not have been more pleasant. read more

I really like the ice cream that they make from sketch and I'd argue that is is better than Jack Frost but I wish they would have toppings
