We were checking out the downtown area of Black Mountain by foot and saw they have a Kilwins. We are familiar with Kilwins since we live in the Triad, we also recently went to the Wilmington location and their ice cream and waffle cones are delicious. My wife chose the chocolate peanut butter and sea salt chocolate caramel on a crisp waffle cone. Delicious as usual and the employees were friendly and helpful. In addition to ice cream they also offer chocolate and fudge by the piece or you can choose from prepackaged chocolate items as well. In case you haven't noticed- John loves ice cream, which means- I get ice cream too (sometimes and sometimes I just steal some of his!). This day we had a late and light lunch and wanted a treat after walking around town and Kilwins is a well known commodity to us. John went with mint chocolate chip (one of his favorites) and I went off script and got 2 flavors in my single scoop waffle bowl a smores-ish ice cream and a chocolate and caramel. I swear I could just munch on the waffle though! As delicious as the ice cream was, the waffle bowl was my favorite part. Typical since you can smell the waffle cones outside the store! This place was POPPING in Asheville, everyone we passed by in the street recommended this chocolate/fudge shop! I got a double scoop of cappuccino chocolate chip and New Orleans praline! Both flavors were amazing and I would recommend them to anyone. The waffle cones were also made fresh right in front of us. We got pretty hefty scoops for a good price plus it was VERY filling. I do like kilwins ice cream and I appreciate that we have an ice cream shop in town but we went in for an ice cream cone last night and had a very weird experience. The girl working was awkwardly calling me trouble and saying no to what I order. I'm assuming she thought she was funny but it was so incredibly awkward and she did not read the room at all. I had a very stressful day so her odd jokes were definitely lost on me. It's super important as a business owner that you teach your staff to be respectful to the customers and not make them feel uncomfortable. read more

I loved every flavor of ice cream I tried here and the texture was perfectly creamy. We shared a scoop of toasted coconut, which, if you are a coconut-lover, is a must-try/must-have! It captured the essence of coconut perfectly and had little crunchy chocolate bits in every bite. So refreshing on what felt like the hottest day of the summer. Kilwins wash delicious! I went there on a beautiful Saturday in Black Mountain to get ice cream. I tried several different flavors before making a decision and it was a tough one. I ended up getting one scoop of the marshmallow smores. After taking a few bites, I wish I had gotten more. If you are a smores lover, this ice cream is a must! While I was there, I picked up a 1/2 pound of chocolate fudge and a couple of orange-cream chocolate truffles. The fudge is the melt-in-your-mouth kind of fudge.The area is also a neat place to walk around with lots of little shops/stores to explore. Overall, great experience. read more

Not bad. You can't go wrong with sweets. Came to Black Mountain for one of my trail walks. Before my start of 10km walk, I noticed Kilwins as I was walking towards my start point. I decided I would stop by and check it out after I was done walking. My girlfriend and I were greeted with friendly staff and offers to try out as many samplings as we wanted. I passed the chocolates and fudge covered sweets and went straight for the ice cream. I asked the staff which flavor of sundae special they would recommend and was told that the turtle sundae was her fav. I gave it a shot and shared it with my girlfriend. Vanilla ice cream with caramel, chocolate fudge covered with some whip cream, walnuts, and with cherry on top, in a waffle cone. Mmmm!! Sound delicious? No? It was pretty good. I just wished it was in bigger serving. Hehe. I look forward to seeing this chain move to VA. Until than, I'll have to wait for my next visit to try out other sweets. read more
