If you are English speaking, why go this place? Very small, packed with Chinese speakers patients. Waiting time is very long normally, examination places also limited. But I been this clinic over 5 years for annual check up. This time went to clinic for eye infection. Dr's not introducing themselves, why? Dr. Robert and Lee both seen recently, Dr. Robert not even have time to talk to me. Her assistant (of course did not introduce herself to me no name, position same as those two doctors) who kept answering of my questions. I complained about who are you? Why you kept answering my questions? Dr. Robert finally turned to me and said "my assignment knows all my questions that's why she is answering." Dr. Robert does not have professional attitude to her patients at all. Maybe no respect to her patients!!! So unprofessional!!!! Annual check up may ok, but have problem your eyes? I scheduled an appointment with Bingjing, and I waited over 30 minutes in a stifling hot waiting room. After receiving eye drops to dilate my eyes, I returned to the waiting room. The receptionist staff lacked the expertise on how to the use the machine. While waiting for my turn, the receptionist exclaimed she couldn't find another patient's eyeball! It turns out the patient's eye was just out of the camera's frame. It took forever to get a reading from the machine because the receptionist did not have the proper training. Over an hour later, I finally sat down with Bingjing for less than 10 minutes. Her diagnosis was similar to a different doctor's prescription. Since I wanted to get new glasses, I wanted another copy of the prescription. I was told to ask the people at the front desk. From there, they told me to just take my glasses to any eyeglass shop, so they can get a reading from my actual lenses. At the end of the day, I didn't have a prescription, left her office with dilated eyes and drenched in sweat. I will not be returning and am not satisfied with my care. read more

I saw Dr. Roberts about 7 years ago and just to reiterate what the previous reviewers said, I opened my mouth slightly while she examined by eyes and she rudely snapped at me. Recently, my non-English speaking mother had cataract surgery done by her in the ambulatory surgery clinic in the Bronx and I accompanied her. She only speaks Cantonese and told me after the surgery that while performing the surgery, Dr. Roberts never introduce herself, spoke English the entire time to operating staff. An IV was placed in her hand, but she was unclear of what administered to her. This just brought back memories of her my own experience with her unprofessionalism all those years ago. Also, at the ambulatory surgery clinic, only one nurse was there to help the multitude of Chinese-speaking patients. (She spoke Mandarin but my mom could understand and speak a decent amount) She was kind and escorted them all out. I just wanted to commend her for her hospitality but if Dr. Roberts knew her patients can't speak English, she should have a translator on staff, not burden a nurse whose responsibility is medical care, not translation. What poor assistance. I also accompanied my mom for her follow up appointment and found that as of recent, she has staffed multiple Optometrists to follow up with patient post-operatively. (This is the norm now- I saw an English speaking Ophthalmologist elsewhere and an MD would hire multiple O.D. to fill in the gap of patient care to reduce wait time). The Optometrist was decent, but Dr. Roberts herself clearly takes advantage of elderly Chinese patients who don't speak English and see them through a monetary lens. update: it's been several days since the surgery and now my mom is complaining that the IV placed in her hand has caused bruising. Nothing was explained to her during the procedure. She repeated her frustration how impolite Dr. Roberts was in not making an introduction and consistency spoke solely English. It's been over a week and my mom's vision is still burry! She also feeling nauseous. She saw the optometrist again, told her about the nausea and ask if she could prescribe any medication to help her. The optometrist told her it was residual effects from the anesthesia-after over a week!? This is not possible. How long is a half life of local anesthesia?? Then she told my mom to go back to her PCP for her symptoms of nausea! I told my my mom she was not a medical doctor and she couldn't prescribe anything besides ophthalmic medication. She didn't want to admit she wasn't a medical doctor and therefore deferred to my mom' PCP. Terrible! The Optometrist's name is Janey Lam. She was willing to make a elderly patient with blurry vision and nausea shuffle to another office to get medical help! Beware! Once Dr. Roberts perform the surgery, you will be follow up in her office by only optometrists with limited scope of practice! When I saw an English speaking ophthalmologist, he was always in office to supervise his optometrists-this will not be the case here! I had previous surgery done on my eye and if you speak English I would highly recommend Dr. Gary Lelli at Weill Cornell. His patient care is impeccable. read more

Sorry but this place can get pretty packed. Even the waiting area with rows of about 20 seats ---- do not have any empty ones. It may look intimidating because of the # of patients but you know what, there has to be a positive reason why this place is that crowded. Staff needs to tell first time patients that it will take several hours to undergo a mandatory thorough checking with dilation of pupils and tests!! So if it is your first time, be warned about that. Call first to find out what it entails. Meanwhile, FIVE EXCELLENT SHINY STARS!!!!! I was thrown off by the # of people in the waiting area but if they all had appointments, those go quickly. I was also not aware of the initial few hours required - but I quickly made arrangements to work around it because I KNEW there has to be something good about the doctor and facilities. Did not regret and the few hours of testing was worth the wait, I suppose. In the end, my complications were rectified so that alone is worth more than five stars. Plus that explains the growing # of people coming here. The building itself is pretty nice. The surrounding area is kind of busy, as well. I found that there was a pharmacy downstairs pretty convenient for my prescriptions, too. Most insurance carriers accepted. Staff may be overwhelmed... but they try to give you an estimate of your wait time (key word: try). read more

Dr. Roberts performed cataracts surgery on my aunt and she had the most amazing experience. The office is busy but that is due to the fact that she is one of the best at what she does. Her staff was thorough and was able to find an underlying issue with her eye that has been developing for years. Many people have issues with long wait times but for the best treatment in the area, especially for a sensitive part like your eyes, Dr. Roberts comes highly recommended! read more

It's better to make appointment cause there are a lot of people in waiting area every time I go. If you just walk-in, it may take some time to see the doctor. I have a thorough eye examination like dilation, eyeball pressure test etc. The medical assistant are nice and skillful. They will conduct a pre-diagnosis like checking the surgery history, medication usage. Dr Robert is professional and friendly. I would not recommend Dr. Roberts. In the beginning of my visit, she appeared friendly. But during my eye examination, there was a time i misheard her instructions, and did not follow her request to put my forehead against her instrument the way she wanted, she was agitated, and YELLED at me. I guess it maybe was because she was under pressure, maybe there were many patients were waiting for her. But still, that showed her being very unprofessional. I have continuously been going to this clinic for my routine eye exam for many years. The doctors are very honest when they address my concerns and thoroughly explain my diagnostic test results every visit. I constantly see staff cleaning and disinfecting instrument in exam rooms which make me feel assured being in a clean environment. The office can sometimes get packed and busy, but I have never felt rushed during examinations. Recently, Dr. Roberts performed a chalazion surgery on me, and the experience was great. The doctor was gentle and made sure I was totally numb around the eye area before she proceeded. The staff also ensured that I was comfortable throughout the entire time. Dr. Roberts is a thorough, attentive and professional ophthalmologist. She is also very nice. Dr Roberts will explain diagnoses so that it is understandable to her patients and takes the time to answer any questions or concerns you may have. If it is your first visit, you should be forewarned that generally it may take a couple of hours to complete a thorough eye exam (due to dilation and the many other diagnostic tests). My first visit was on a Saturday morning and the waiting room was very crowded. The receptionist told me mornings tend to be most busy since that is when patients who have undergone surgery return for follow-up. That being said, there is a large number of staff who will efficiently chauffeur you through all of the various steps prior to seeing the doctor. My follow-up appointment was in the afternoon on a Saturday and things were a bit calmer. I would recommend Dr. Roberts without reservation to any of my family or friends needing an ophthalmologist. read more

Dr. Robert Bingjing is my general ophthalmologist. In my opinion, she is an outstanding eye doctor who performs medical and surgical treatments for eye conditions. I am a layman to eye diseases. But I feel that she really did an excellent job. At least eight or nine ophthalmologists at different eye clinics, including five eye doctors at Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center, asked who had performed the cataract surgeries for me. I asked them if the surgeries had been well performed. They all said that the surgeries had been perfectly performed. I told them it's Dr. Robert Bingjing who performed the cataract surgeries for me. She doesn't do various surgeries. Instead she only does what she is good at doing. She was the first ophthalmologist who discovered my epiretinal membrane (also called macular pucker, a fibrocellular tissue found on the inner surface of the retina), and suggested that I try my best to find and visit some well-known specialists in this eye disease. Finally I found the right specialist who performed a perfect surgery for the removal of the annoying membrane, which is a highly difficult surgery. Moreover, Dr. Robert Bingjing is extremely good at treating dry eye, which is very common in the elderly. I am 84 years old. At least my dry eye cases have been well controlled without undergoing a surgery. Dr. Robert Bingjing really leaves nothing to be desired in her medical and surgical practices. **Beware of unreasonable amount of wait time, and mostly very unprofessional staffs. Also, when Dr. Roberts is under a lot of stress, she WILL take her frustration out on her patient as well! Go to this place at your own risk!** Honestly, I wanted to give this horrible place no star; but the one star is for the two more veteran staffs member there, who noticed I have been waiting for a long time, never went up to anyone to make a big fuss or complained, so they decided to check on my chart and updated me at least once in a while. Making an appointment & walk-in make absolutely no difference. I've done both in the past. My appointment today was for 2pm, I arrived and checked in at least 20 minutes earlier, but I still didn't get to see the doctor until 5:30pm. During my 3+ hours of wait time in an extremely crowded waiting room, I heard many of the staffs at the reception desk talked out loud in Cantonese and/or English about many patients' medical history & personal information, and sometimes even made comments in foul language about the patient as well; regardless if the patient was still sitting in close proximity from them in the waiting area, or just finished seeing the doctor and about to exit the door. Appointments were always overbooked, doctor got so busy that she doesn't appear to care enough to listen to why each patient is there to see her. On average, she spent a minimum of 10 seconds to a maximum of 5 minutes in the room with me on each of my visits. Dr. Roberts could have been a wonderful doctor, but I was never given the chance to find that out. She always dashed in the room just briefly to go over some notes that a few of her mostly inexperienced assistants wrote down, made a quick diagnosis, and ran back out within 5 minutes. Sometimes when her assistants made mistakes on your chart, you'll need to undergo extra testing & wait even longer with absolutely no explanation given by anyone. **My experience here today was the final straw. I am never coming back to this horrible place again!** I might have unknowingly tilted my head a little when Dr. Roberts wanted me to look at the upper left corner, she immediately screamed at me all of a sudden, while holding her tools to examine my eyes! Mostly out of fear, I apologized right away, but she continued to comment negatively at me for not following her instructions to the tee. She might have realized her behavior was not appropriate and toned down herself after a few seconds. I have never been scolded by any doctors in my entire life for similar, or maybe even worse, situations. This is totally unacceptable!! I previously overheard her staffs saying that she was working alone on this very busy day, and that she had been very upset that many of her inexperienced assistants, as they made many mistakes here and there the entire day. But nonetheless, this did not justify such unprofessional behavior towards her patients! read more

I can see specialists only by referral so had no choice but to see Dr. Roberts. My appointment was at 10am. She walked in at ~10:40am - casually too, not a care in the world. And she had to get settled down so it wasn't even after 11am did she call in her first patient. I was not her first appointment either so the wait was ridiculous. I had two eye conditions that are similar, but actually two different things. But before I could even finish my sentence so she knows the history, she jumped right in and said it is *condition A*. It's almost like she couldn't waste a minute listening. I also needed to know what my surgery options and all she insisted was it's better that I don't have surgery. Which is fine, but I would like the know what the options are so ***I*** can make decision. But of course she has no time for us people who are on government insurance. Ended up paying out of pocket to see another ophthalmologist (Dr. Kira Lauren Segal at Weill Cornell) who explained everything I needed. read more

There should have zero star on yelp. I will never come back to see this doctor again. She spent less than 5 mins looking my eyes and she told me I have lots eye floaters. I was concern about my eye floaters, she did not answer my questions regarding my eye floaters and even looked at her medical assistant and passed the questions to the medical assistant. And then her medical assistant explained to me about eye floaters without any patience. When I said, "But my vision is good", this doctor raised her voice and made an unprofessional statement, "Like I said, even though your vision is good, you still have eye floaters" I was like, "Are you serious, you talk to your patient like this." I would not recommend my pcp or friends to refer any patents to see this doctor. I felt like they just wanted me to do all the tests and tried to get paid from my insurance and did nothing but saying, "If you dont feel well, just make an appointment and come back to see me again." But I remember how she made me feel. Her attitude made me feel like she was saying "I told you the diagnose already and it is what it is. No more questions needed. I have seen dr robert for years and that's why I kept going back to see her. She is really nice and professional, but her staff are not so great. I was late for my appt and I was seeing full house of patient at almost 5pm, so I step up to the receptionist and offer to reschedule my appt since they are behind schedule. Then one of the receptionist told me that as long as I am willing to wait they will register me, I even asked her multiple times that do you wanna check with the dr first before u register me since I'm so late but she declined. So I wait for a bit and another "senior" receptionist called me up and told me that u r super late and u r using commercial ins and we cannot take u now. I was like wtf I offered u first place to reschedule me and I cannot have commercial ins? I provided my ins info before I come in and u should check it why it matters if it is government ins or commercial. Dr Roberts is a very caring and patient doctor. I've been seeing her for years now since I have developed chronic dry eyes from a side effect of another medication that i took, which unfortunately did not reverse even when i stopped the medication. I've been to other opthamologist in the area where it's convenient for my work location, but none of them impresses me enough for me to go back. Like i said i suffer from a chronic condition and Dr Roberts is the only one who's able to help address my burning eyes to now full of tears! She takes time to evaluate with me the different treatment options to try. She really cares about her patients and you can see why her waiting area is always full of people! i have been referring friends and family to see her. As long as Dr Roberts is in business I will not go seek another ophthalmologist! The staffs are very helpful as well especially working with my insurance to get the medications that i need.
